PGA TOUR STUDIOS CASE STUDY

“When PGA TOUR Studios launches next year, it will help us bring live golf and other live content to our fans in a more dynamic way, bringing them closer to our players and closer to our sport.”
Overview
The PGA TOUR is set to integrate the latest cutting-edge media production technologies at PGA TOUR Studios, a three-level facility adjacent to the Global Home. The futuristic 165,000-square-foot media facility home to the largest golf footage library in the world will house all PGA TOUR Media operations, including live production for PGA TOUR LIVE, PGA TOUR Champions and Korn Ferry Tour, as well as the social media, digital operations and international media.
Through the world of golf, the PGA TOUR, backed by its network of volunteers, drives positive impact at unprecedented levels to support and improve local communities. The PGA TOUR and its tournaments have donated more than $3.93 billion to date to support local organizations.

Specialized Construction for TV Studios
From the project's inception, collaboration with NEP was essential to address the unique challenges posed by the TV studios. These studios required specialized construction to minimize noise and interference. Multi-layer walls and wire mesh were incorporated to reduce interference for wireless microphones, necessitating a more complex Distributed Antenna System (DAS) design. To ensure seamless coverage, antennas were strategically placed inside each studio.
Coordination with Architects and Multiple DAS Systems
The PGA TOUR Studios facility includes multiple DAS systems for various purposes, including broadcast and sound masking involving crucial coordination with architects. This collaboration ensured appropriate spacing between the different antennas to avoid interference and optimize performance.

Comprehensive Frequency Band Coverage
The DAS was designed to cover all frequency bands, including C-BAND for ultrawide 5G. Our team played a significant role in planning the head-end room, providing dedicated space for Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) from the outset—a consideration often overlooked until later stages in similar projects.

Additional Considerations
A passive UHF DAS for twoway radio communication was also included in the project. While our team was not responsible for the engineering of this system, it was an important aspect of the overall communications infrastructure.

Just three years after the unveiling of its 187,000-square-foot Global Home, the PGA TOUR is poised to integrate the latest media production technologies at its new studios.
The deployment of an advanced DAS, tailored to the specific needs of the PGA TOUR Studios, ensures robust and reliable wireless communication, laying the foundation for future media innovations and enhancing the PGA TOUR's global broadcast capabilities.

Revolutionizing Rural Connectivity

In today's hyper-connected world, access to reliable internet and wireless communications is a critical necessity. However, many rural and underserved communities remain on the fringes of this digital revolution, grappling with limited connectivity and outdated infrastructure.

The Challenges of Rural Connectivity

Rural areas often face significant challenges when it comes to establishing robust wireless communications networks Existing technologies may not be sufficient to provide reliable and high-speed connectivity over large, remote areas while geographical barriers like rugged terrains, vast distances, and low population densities make it difficult to deploy traditional wired infrastructure cost-effectively.
Additionally, lower potential returns on investment in sparsely populated areas deter many service providers from extending their networks into these regions. To overcome these challenges, Diamond Communications is pioneering several innovative approaches to enhance rural connectivity:
Fixed Wireless Access
FWA leverages wireless technology to deliver broadband services directly to homes and businesses. By using base stations and customer premises equipment (CPE), FWA can provide high-speed internet without the need for extensive fiber optic networks. This technology is particularly effective in areas where laying physical cables is impractical or too costly
TVWS utilizes unused spectrum in the TV broadcast band to deliver wireless internet. This technology can cover large areas with fewer base stations, making it ideal for rural deployments. TVWS signals can penetrate obstacles like buildings and foliage, ensuring more consistent coverage in challenging environments
TV White Space Satellite Broadband
Advances in satellite technology are making it a viable option for providing high-speed internet to remote locations. Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites, in particular, offer lower latency and higher speeds compared to traditional geostationary satellites. This can bridge connectivity gaps where terrestrial solutions are unfeasible.

Empowering local communities to build and manage their own networks can be an effective way to address connectivity issues. By providing technical expertise, funding, and support, communities can establish sustainable, locally operated wireless networks tailored to their specific needs.

Building the Infrastructure: A Collaborative Approach
Successfully enhancing rural connectivity requires a collaborative approach involving various stakeholders.

Regulatory Support: Governments can facilitate rural connectivity by providing regulatory frameworks that encourage investment and innovation. Policies that streamline the permitting process, allocate spectrum efficiently, and support infrastructure sharing can significantly accelerate deployment.
Community Engagement: Engaging with local communities is crucial to understanding their unique needs and ensuring the successful implementation of connectivity projects. Involving community members in the planning and deployment process fosters ownership and sustainability.
Public-Private Partnerships: Collaborations between government agencies, private companies, and nonprofit organizations can pool resources and expertise to drive rural connectivity projects.

Public funding and incentives can spur private investment in underserved areas.

The Impact of Enhanced Rural Connectivity
Improving rural connectivity has far-reaching benefits

Economic Development
Access to reliable internet enables rural businesses to expand their reach, adopt e-commerce, and participate in the digital economy. It also attracts new businesses and investments to the area, fostering economic growth.

Education and Healthcare: High-speed internet provides rural students with access to online educational resources and remote learning opportunities It also enables telehealth services, allowing residents to receive medical consultations and treatments without traveling long distances.
Quality of Life: Enhanced connectivity improves the overall quality of life by facilitating access to information, entertainment, and social interactions. It also supports smart agriculture, enabling farmers to use precision farming technologies to increase productivity and sustainability.
