Cutting-Edge Wireless Connectivity

Opened in 2018, the Comcast Technology Center redefined the Philadelphia skyline, standing 1,121 feet tall across 62 stories.

Comcast Technology Center Philadelphia, PA

With nearly 1.6 million square feet, the skyscraper houses Comcast’s innovation hub, stateof-the-art broadcast studios for NBC 10 and Telemundo 62, and the luxurious Four Seasons Hotel Philadelphia.
Designed to be a beacon of nextgeneration technology, the building needed infrastructure that could match its ambitions, especially when it came to inbuilding wireless connectivity.

and a workplace for thousands of high tech professionals, the Comcast Technology Center required a wireless infrastructure that could handle:

Massive bandwidth demand from employees, media teams, hotel guests, and visitors
High-rise RF challenges typical in dense urban centers
Future scalability to accommodate evolving technologies, including 5G
Seamless communication across commercial, broadcast, and hospitality operations
Secure and reliable two-way radio coverage for building management and security teams

THE SOLUTION THE SOLUTION

DAS Design & Deployment
Intenna Systems engineered and supported the installation of a fiber-to-the-edge (FTTE) Distributed Antenna System (DAS), utilizing one of the most advanced DAS platforms available on the market.

This architecture brings fiber and power closer to the antennas resulting in lighter and shorter compact coaxial cable runs improving energy efficiency in some cases.

Neutral Host Operation: The system is managed by a thirdparty neutral host provider, allowing participation by multiple carriers and improving ROI.
Designed to accommodate technology upgrades as wireless evolves through the years.

Recognizing the critical role of facilities and security operations, Intenna Systems also designed and installed a separate, standalone UHF DAS.
This dedicated network ensures uninterrupted two-way radio communications across all 62 stories of the tower, including below-ground levels essential for emergency response and operational coordination.

y p deliver a future-forward wireless solution to one of the most technologically sophisticated buildings on the East Coast. The Comcast Technology Center stands not only as a physical landmark, but as a blueprint for how next-generation buildings can support high-performance wireless ecosystems at every level.

Where Next-Gen Connectivity is Essential— and Where Private LTE is Enough

Voice, Text, and the

As 5G continues to dominate tech headlines, it’s easy to assume that every industry, healthcare included, must adopt it across the board. But when it comes to hospitals and healthcare facilities, the picture is more nuanced.
The truth is, while 5G offers impressive capabilities, many hospital connectivity needs are still well served by 4G, particularly when it comes to basic cellular coverage.
Reality of Cellular Needs
At the most fundamental level, what do hospital staff need from their mobile devices? Voice and text. In critical environments like emergency rooms and surgical units, clear communication is everything, and 4G more than delivers.
Just like you connect to Wi-Fi at home for faster browsing while your phone still handles calls and texts effortlessly over 4G, hospitals don't need 5G speeds just to keep the lines of communication open.

The Hype Around 5G and Data Applications
5G shines when it comes to data-heavy use cases: remote surgery, real-time imaging, AI diagnostics, and massive IoT networks. These are all impressive, and valuable, but they’re not always relevant to every hospital’s day-to-day operations. In many cases, these high-bandwidth applications are run over internal Wi-Fi or wired networks, not cellular. And when hospitals do need mobile data for such applications, Private Networks offer a tailored solution.
Private Networks: The Best of Both Worlds Private Networks: The Best of Both Worlds
Private 4G and Private 5G networks give hospitals control over their own connectivity without relying solely on public cellular networks. This means they can deploy highspeed, secure, and reliable data channels where they’re truly needed, like in a radiology lab, while maintaining 4G for broad coverage throughout the facility.

This approach highlights a key point: 5G is not a one-size-fits-all solution. Hospitals can, and should, use the right tool for the job. In many cases, that means sticking with 4G for voice and basic mobile communication, while exploring Private 5G for specific, highdemand applications.
The Bottom Line
Hospitals don’t need 5G everywhere Hospitals don’t need 5G everywhere

With smart planning and private network options, they can meet today’s needs, and prepare for tomorrow’s, without over-investing in tech that’s still catching up to its promise.
