INSIDE CHESTERFIELD SOUTH MAGAZINE - ISSUE 17 - NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2022

Firstly, apologies for the lateness of the magazine last month, the delivery team were each ill for periods of time and that meant that we struggled to get the magazine out within our normal our timescale, so I apologise if you had your magazine a little later than usual. This year really does seem to have flown by and I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of our readers a Very Merry Xmas and here is to a cracking 2023 for you all. This will be the last edition published and delivered before the start of the year, so I would like to take the opportunity now to wish all our readers festive greetings.

Who Am I ?

I was born on the 25th of September in 1946 in Olton, Warwickshire in England. After living my early years in Birmingham, at the age of 7 years old, my family and myself emigrated to India, because my father Geoffrey lead his own repertory company on tours of India. They would perform Shakespeare before royalty one day and in a rough rural village the next day. Whilst I was in India, I attended convent schools whilst my family toured . Unfortunately at the age of 17 years old, I contracted Typhoid Fever in Calcutta. I made my own stage debut at the age of just 9 months old, when I was carried on stage as a changeling boy, in a “Midsummer’s Nights Dream”. I then made my London stage debut in a “Minor Murder” in 1967, I then went on to appear in a number of other well regarded plays. I was also very lucky to Land my first TV work playing the part of Jenny in a TV series called “Love Story”. That role, then lead to me securing many other roles, but possibly my most famous role was in the TV series “The Good Life” where I played opposite Richard Briers. That role, then opened up the door for many other shows, like “Solo”, “The Camomile Lawn”, “Rosemary and Thyme” , to name a few. I was also still appearing on the stage and my stage career was to blossom during the 80’s and 90’s when I formed a close professional association with Tom Stoppard, starring in the first production of many of his plays, including “The Real Thing” in 1982, “Hapgood” in 1988 and “Arcadia” in 1993 and “Indian Ink” in 1995. I have been married twice before and have two sons. In 1991, I left my second husband , however, we later got reunited. I was appointed Commander of The Order of the British Empire in the 1995 New Year Honours for services to drama. I am also an ambassador for the charity “Royal Voluntary Service”, previously known as “WRVS”. WHO AM ……?
