Welcome to all the readers of the Inside Chesterfield East magazine once again. This is the penultimate edition before the December issue and to say that 2022 has absolutely flown by, would be somewhat of a total under statement. Where did it go, I can always remember my Mother telling me to enjoy my life when I was 18 years old, she said “because as you get older, the years go by much quicker”. I can also remember thinking what on earth is she talking about! However, I would now say … never a truer word spoken!

The winner of the “Who Am I” competition for the October issue, is Lindsay Hall of Broadoaks Close in Chesterfield. Lindsay was correct with her answer of Actress Julie Walters. Even though the energy crisis is looming and the economy is not good people are being very careful, I still believe that business’s have still got to keep their name out there and advertise, to ensure that you still keep getting work. Lasting Power of Attorney

What is power of attorney? Simply put power of attorney is the documentation whereby you (the Donor) give authority to the people who you choose and trust (known as your attorney/s) to then make decisions for you if you cannot make them for yourself.

At Prep Legal we believe, irrespective of age or well being that all clients should consider giving power of attorney as a key part of planning for whatever the future may hold.

A common belief is that power of attorney is something to give effect to later in life, or something to be done if, or when it is needed, perhaps for example if someone is diagnosed with dementia. We understand this viewpoint, however significant difficulty and delay can arise in helping someone who doesn’t have power of attorney if they are unexpectedly incapacitated due to an accident or illness making what is already a difficult time even more stressful.

If you do not have power of attorney in place,an event occurs and you are not able to give power of attorney the only option available to your loved ones is to obtain the equivalent authority from the Court of Protection. Court applications of this nature are expensive and are far more onerous than giving power of attorney while you are capable. In addition to the court fees there are additional, ongoing annual fees charged where such orders are made.
