Andrea D. Daste A note from the Director Every artist has ONE THING that they dream of doing. One ballad, one monologue, one flute solo, one ballet, one big dance number, one moving speech that inspires us to try harder. To work for it. To learn as much as we can so, that one day, a director running auditions will say “Yes! THAT’S who I want!” As an actor for 27 years, I’ve had many “One Things”. I’ve wanted to hold the stage and belt out “Memories” from CATS. But, I can’t sing like that, no matter how hard I work. Since 2001, my biggest “One Thing” was to direct. To take a person who had no idea what it meant to be onstage and get them addicted. I first read “The Vagina Monologues” that year. I wanted to perform “My Angry Vagina”. But the more I read it, the more I couldn’t keep my ideas narrowed down for JUST that monologue. When I was chosen to direct for IMT my “One Thing” came true. Not only was I getting to direct, but direct a show I had read many times, used for auditions and studied in college. The nine women you will see tonight are my “One Thing”. They are my dream come true. Every actress has connected to her piece with their heart and soul. The Vagina Monologues has long been thought of as raunchy, uncomfortable or downright boycott-material. It has been done a hundred different ways. But tonight, be a part of our “Ladies Night Out”. Eavesdrop on women when they aren’t being Politically Correct, when they aren’t worried about roaming ears, or of being too loud. You are invited to listen, and laugh, and think. This show is about women just being women. The sides you DON’T see, and a new perspective on the sides you DO see. Have a glass of wine and join us. You’re more than welcome… and maybe if we’re lucky, you’ll find your “One Thing” too. Enjoy the show! Andrea D. Daste - On stage since the age of 8, and after 27 years, takes on her directorial debut with The Vagina Monologues. Winner of 4 SCT Willie Awards, most recently for her turn as “Golde” in Fiddler on the Roof, Andie is proud to present her ideas rather than just her character. She would like to thank Jessica and Kenny for keeping her from going crazy, IMT for the fabulous opportunity, and her husband Richard Garvin, who’s support, encouragement, and love helped her reach this goal tonight.

Why V-Day Started In 1994, a play called The Vagina Monologues, written by playwright and activist Eve Ensler, broke ground, offering to the world a piece of art like nothing it had seen before. Based on dozens of interviews Ensler conducted with women, the play addressed women's sexuality and the social stigma surrounding rape and abuse, creating a new conversation about and with women. The Vagina Monologues ran Off-Broadway for five years in New York and then toured the United States. After every performance, Ensler found women waiting to share their own stories of survival, leading her to see that The Vagina Monologues could be more than a moving work of art on violence; she divined that the performances could be a mechanism for moving people to act to end violence. On Valentines Day, 1998, Eve, with a group of women in New York City, established V-Day. Set up as a 501(c)(3) and originally staffed by volunteers, the organization's seed money came from a starstudded, sold out benefit performance at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York, a show that raised $250,000 in a single evening. V-Day's mission is simple. It demands that violence against women and girls must end. To do this, once a year, in February, Eve allows groups around the world to produce a performance of the play, as well as other works created by V-Day, and use the proceeds for local individual projects and programs that work to end violence against women and girls, often shelters and rape crisis centers. What began as one event in New York City in 1998 today includes over 5,800 V-Day events annually. Performance is just the beginning. V-Day stages large-scale benefits and produces innovative gatherings, films and campaigns to educate and change social attitudes towards violence against women. "Probably the most important piece of political theater of the last decade." - Charles Isherwood, The New York Times

Chest of Hope Chest Of Hope is a nonprofit agency dedicated to breaking the cycle of domestic violence and building a community free of abuse. In 2005, Chest Of Hope was founded by volunteers as a small group dedicated to raising funds for orphans and women of domestic violence on a global level, however; The clear disparity between the growing numbers of domestic violence victims needing help and the limited programs available to assist them prompted Chest of Hope to expand its effort in 2012 to include direct crisis intervention services for individuals and families. Today, Chest Of Hope’s programs and services include a Safe Home counseling for victims and their children, court advocacy, and prevention and education efforts, including self-care education and our extensive teen dating violence prevention program (Challenges and Choices: A Choice for Hope). Each year, we work with several individuals through these programs, all offered free of charge. For more info please visit www.chestofhope.org
