Beaver Pond Sporting Club L.L.C. , less than an hour from the Raleigh-Durham Triangle or the Piedmont Triad, in the historic community of Snow Camp, North Carolina, is more than a place to visit; it’s a place to belong. The Location is half way between the Triangle and the Triad.

Sporting game enthusiasts forget the distractions of modern life and reconnect with their instincts. Many members are drawn to the thrills that made them outdoorsmen in the first place. Others experience them for the first time here.

A Place to Gather Beaver Pond Sporting Club offers year-round opportunities to hunt and target practice. The open fields offer a diverse range of habitats, from sorghum fields to native grass areas to thick brush. The Europeanstyle shooting tower and clay ranges are state of the art.

Beaver Pond is the perfect venue for corporate meeting, get aways or groups. The spacious wildlife room in Whippoorwill Lodge has a huge stone fireplace for cold weather, leather group seating, and table arrangements for large or small groups.

Guests can entertain themselves with the hunting opportunities, fishing, shotgun ranges, the action pistol plate machine or the .22 rim fire rifle gallery. Beaver Pond, the tranquil pond that’s the namesake of the preserve, is a traditional southern farm pond abounding with bass and bream. The Bass Buggy – a small 2 man boat-for a little fishing.

Five Stand Clay Range With three menus, the five-stand clay range is perfect for a casual round of shooting or a spirited shooting match among friends. It’s a place to practice before a hunt or hold a corporate outing. A unique open/covered porch design with tables and rockers gives shooters the option of shooting in or out of the elements.

“Our Five Stand is as fine as they come,” says owner Johnny Miller. “It is a great asset to our shooting instruction because almost any shot can be set up with the push of a button. It offers right and left crossers, incoming targets, a tower shot, a rabbit and a wobble trap.”

Typically, a five-stand range is configured for each shooter to have five shots from each of the five shooting stations, creating the standard 25 shot round. Five Stand simulates hunting because, in the course of firing 25 shots, you never shoot the same shot twice.

For corporate events where there may be inexperienced shooters, there is a training station with an instructor available for new and experienced shooters to acclimate to the game. Great for lefties, too.

Sporting Clays, Like Golf for Shotguns With the stations set in varied terrain, the sporting clays course can challenge the most serious shooter. A wide range of targets in both open and wooded areas simulates hunting with a pleasant trail leading from station to station. With 14 stations, 4 shooters per station, the course can accommodate 56 shooters at one time. Sporting clays has been compared to golf with shotguns. Shooters progress around the course from station to station shooting challenging targets for experienced shooters or more basic shots for less experienced shooters. The course simulates almost all of the shots taken in upland and waterfowl hunting.

Shooters can shoot a full course of 100 targets or an abbreviated 50 shot course.

Shells, vests, and rental guns are available in the Pro Shop. Rental golf carts are also available for those not choosing to take the walk.

The Caldwell Gallery, Casual Small Bore Shooting Fun A Caldwell Gallery provides fun target practice as a diversion for guests. Traditionally, outdoorsmen like Ernest Hemingway and Robert Ruark entertained themselves at little .22 galleries after a day of shooting or fishing and Beaver Pond’s gallery fits that bill in the same way the lodge itself hearkens back to a simpler happy time.

The targets advance across the gallery at a speed similar to a trotting deer and automatically reset as they come back around. At twenty yards with a .22, this is challenging fun and a great way to compete informally with friends or associates. Guests can bring their own .22 rifles or .22 pistols or use the club’s scoped 10/22 Ruger rifles.

Learn to Shoot With the Pros at Beaver Pond For groups needing instruction, Beaver Pond is a great place to learn. To excel at shooting, you must get the fundamentals and start right. A good instructor can improve your shooting skills at a phenomenal rate. Individual rifle, pistol and shotgun instruction can be scheduled and group instruction is also available. Wingshooting… Upland Game Bird Hunting…Walk-up Hunting over Pointing Dogs “Wingshooting, classic southern hunting that involves shooting at pointed birds over dogs, is challenging and exciting for any sportsman,” says Johnny.

“Quail and chukar are the favorites.”

This classic southern hunting style for upland game birds is best for one to three people. It is offered full service, with guides and bird dogs can be provided, or can be self guided if you have your own bird dogs. While quail are the traditional southern quarry, chukars, a western bird much larger than quail offer challenging targets and fast shooting. Groups can mix quail in small coveys, chukar, and pheasants to make the hunt even more interesting.

This is a great way to entertain individual or pairs of guests with exciting shooting and time for conversation while the dogs are working. There is no form of hunting more beautiful than pointing dogs working for birds.

Why Fly to South Dakota When You Can Drive to Beaver Pond?

Driving pheasants, involving groups of people flushing ring necks or chukars from field cover with retrievers, is a guided-only hunt. “It’s a great option for families and small corporate teams,” says Johnny. “The large amount of acreage available makes it comparable to any plains hunt.” With large fields planted in rows, shooters experience Midwestern style pheasant shooting just minutes from the Triangle and the Triad.

Many of Beaver Ponds fields are strip planted in the same way as Midwest shooting venues. Hunters follow the dogs along the strips in a straight line flushing the birds and offering lots of shooting. Both chukar and pheasants can be hunted this way and there’s no worry about a two bird limit.

The European Tower Shoot European-style tower shooting is a semi-stationary hunt that’s fun for all ages and abilities. It involves from 10 to 26 shooters rotating around a 40-foot tower. Birds are released from the tower and reach maximum wing speed by the time they are overhead. Pheasant tower shoots are scheduled as club events or as special events for corporate groups. Since these hunts work well with less experienced hunters or hunters who may have trouble walking a long hunt, they are popular as a way to get younger and older hunters in the field for a great day.

Whippoorwill Lodge Beaver Pond’s Whippoorwill Lodge is an inviting retreat, where the aroma of burning firewood mingles with roasting chickens, game birds, pork shoulders or oysters on the grill.

The main sitting area with a huge stone fireplace, and leather chairs and couches is comfortable for large groups. There’s a big screen TV for ball games and a convenient bar. Wood walls and ceiling provide a rustic look and a huge cedar tree graces the center of the room. Groupings of seating can provide intimate conversation or a lively party.

The kitchen is spacious and well equipped to feed a small to large group. With tables and a wood stove, it often becomes the popular gathering place, before and after your event.

The Pro Shop offers everything one might need, including clothing, accessories, rental guns and shotgun shells. Beaver Pond pro Shop can also provide hats or shirts to commemorate your event.

Down the hall are the three rustic bedrooms and two full baths. Bedrooms are comfortable with individual heating controls and room to store your gear. They are decorated with original Bob Timberlake furniture featuring queen size beds.

“With bedrooms for overnight trips, members can enjoy Beaver Pond for a half day, a day or a week,” says Johnny.

Outside the lodge is a large covered patio area with a stone fireplace, another great place where stories … some true …are told and retold. So is “Frank’s

Shed,� which also is the bird-cleaning area, tool shop and refreshment center at Beaver Pond, tends to attract members for a laid back review of the day, post hunt.
