he 10th annual Enduring Gratitude event took place on February 9, 2019 at Beaver Pond Sporting Club in Snow Camp, NC. We were blessed with a beautiful day of weather and hosted 150 Veterans and active military members of the US Armed Forces. It was such an honor to sponsor these brave men and women and have them participate in a day of sporting clay and pheasant tower shotgun shooting as well as enjoying a full barbeque and chicken lunch. In order to have a successful event, it takes a dedicated group of volunteers willing to combine their individual talents to accomplish the mission. This year’s 142 volunteers did a fantastic job and our sincere thanks and appreciation is sincerely extended to them. Each volunteer feels honored to give back to the participates and by their efforts extend their heartfelt thanks for their service. We are reminded each year that each man and woman who has or is serving our great country does of their own free will to defend and protect the unequalled freedom and privileges that we are blessed with as Americans. They put their lives on the line every minute of each and every day. We are forever grateful for them and they have our constant eternal respect and admiration. During the course of the events of the day, there are opportunities to converse with the Veterans and it is always so humbling to hear of their varied experiences. No matter how horrific or consequential the outcome, they always complete their stories by saying “I have no regrets and I would do it again no matter what.” We would like to share a few of the testimonials in the form of letters and emails we received from our veterans. John, I had to fly back to Florida early today, so I did not have much time to email you once I got back home. I wanted to make sure to thank each volunteer, each sponsor and each behind the scene person for an amazing experience. It had been years since I have hunted let alone took out the shotgun to just do some target shooting. This was something I did not know I needed as bad as I did. Something

e

just seemed to come out of me that had been somewhat suppressed for quite some time. Being with fellow Veterans was just like the days we were in uniform, we connected, encouraged each other, celebrated and mentored each other. I go to many other events, but Enduring Gratitude sets a high bar. It is the most sincere, organized event and truly understands what Veterans who have served, especially in times of war, really need. The guest speaker’s message of “service “could not have been better. It resonated with me very much. I cannot say “thanks” enough. I have spoken about my experience many times since I returned home and cannot wait to come back next year. –“Marine” Brian John, I would just like to take a moment and thank you for a great day of fun, relaxation and comradery. It was a beautiful day to enjoy the outdoors and make new friends. I look forward to next year if possible. Thank you for your generosity and for exerting the effort to organize this event. Have a blessed year! – Charlie

ach year, we are honored to have a Veteran of great valor to be our guest speaker. In past years, some of the heroes to share their thoughts have included Navy Commander Retired Porter A. Halyburton – Vietnam POW for 7 years, Staff Sergeant and Pathfinder retired Chris Williams, Air Force Colonel retired Norman McDaniel – Vietnam POW for 6 ½ years and Sergeant First Class and Green Beret Greg Stube. This year’s speaker, Lt Colonel Michael Lerario, shared various stories of commitment to leadership, the importance of adhering to established standards and the fulfillment of the mission with which one is charged. Furthermore, we should continue to seek ways to serve our fellow mankind whenever possible. Lt Colonel Lerario stated that the mission for which he was proudest and honored to lead was recovery of the remains of those lost in the war of Vietnam. He

was tasked for this mission and was paired with his Vietnam military officer counterpart. This Vietnam general was actually resentful that the US Military was undergoing such great effort and substantial expense to make such recovery when his own government was making no effort to recover the hundreds of thousands casualties they incurred. Over the course of the mission, the Vietnam general came to respect the importance of why the mantra of “no man left behind” was so important to the American military. Lerario left us with the challenge to in essence go forth and take leadership responsibilities to help our fellow citizens in any way possible to have a better life. We were inspired by his introspection and honored to have him as our guest speaker.

Finally, we are so thankful for the most generous financial support of our sponsors. Without this funding, Enduring Gratitude would not exist. We once again want to thank our volunteers – we could not put on this event without you. Please enjoy this year’s journal. Our story is within these great pictures. Mark your calendars for Saturday February 8, 2020 when we once again will host Enduring Gratitude for another group of outstanding brave patriot Veterans and active US military members. Our sincerest appreciation to you ALL! Board of Directors - Enduring Gratitude

February 8th, 2020 at In 2010 a group from the High Point area discussed the difficulties experienced by young men and women returning from Operation Enduring Freedom, our current operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. Our Soldiers, Marines, Sailors and Airmen are engaged in the longest war in the history of the United States and the size of our fighting force is the smallest it has been in recent history. As a result, our servicemen and women were experiencing multiple deployments; some as many as ten with three or four deployments during this time period being common. Many of these who’ve served multiple deployments are National Guard and Reserve, and not even full time soldiers. Thousands of first Little League games, dance recitals, births, and other milestone occasions in their lives and the lives of their families have been missed. As citizens who appreciate the sacrifices and efforts of these brave young men and women, the group formed Enduring Gratitude, a 501c3 Charitable Non-profit Federal Tax ID # 27-4873506 with the express purpose of providing these, who have volunteered, served, and sacrificed with a memorable experience in the outdoors as an expression of our gratitude. We have recently changed our eligibility to include all those who have served in conflicts and put their lives on the line for our freedom. Unlike many similar organizations, there are no paid employees of Enduring Gratitude. Since our inception, we’ve hosted multiple events including bird hunts, deer hunts, turkey hunts, and waterfowl hunts for soldiers across our state. Some events were small with only a half dozen or so participants and some were quite large with almost 160 veterans at the 2019 Enduring Gratitude Pheasant Tower shoot and Sporting Clay shoot at Beaver Pond Sporting Club. To make this happen, we need others like us who are grateful for the sacrifice of these men and women. Doing this requires money, and volunteers and we’re counting on Americans like us to help make this happen. Please look
