Welcome to the 17th edition of our newsletter. 2024 – Wow, what a whirlwind of a year it’s been!
We’ve really packed it all in, haven’t we? This year, we decided to stretch our wings and dive into not one, but two additional shows alongside the Great Yorkshire Show— and guess what? All three were a smashing success! You can catch the highlights from the Chatsworth and Nidderdale Shows on pages 6 and 7.
We also launched our brand-new Rapid Response & Key Safe service, and the feedback has been fantastic! We’ve covered the details in our last two newsletters, but if you’re thinking about keeping an eye on things during the winter break, check out our website for more information about protecting your property over seasonal close downs.
1.Regular Equipment Checks: Ensure all fire alarms, extinguishers, and security systems are fully functional before the winter season. Cold weather can affect their performance.
2. Clear Snow and Ice: Regularly clear snow and ice from fire exits and access routes to ensure safe evacuation in case of an emergency.
3. Outdoor Lighting: Increase security by ensuring outdoor lighting is well-maintained and functioning. Shorter days mean more darkness, so adequate lighting is crucial for safety.
1. Vehicle Preparedness: Ensure all vehicles are winter-ready. This includes checking tyre tread, antifreeze levels, and ensuring the battery is in good condition.
2. Stay Informed: Keep employees informed about weather conditions. Encourage them to check forecasts and road conditions before heading out.
3. Warm-up Breaks: Encourage employees working outdoors to take regular warm-up breaks in a heated area, to prevent cold-related illnesses.
This year was the start of us offering Finance Options for businesses who are looking to install new fire alarm or security systems or upgrade existing ones to meet British Standards. Being a family-run business, we totally get how important it is to manage costs, so we’re here to help you spread them out a bit!
Our team has grown once again, welcoming new engineer Lee, plus our apprentices Max and Nathan! With more engineers on board, we have also expanded our office team with new members starting before the end of the year.
And here’s the cherry on top: in 2024, we received our first Three Best Rated Excellence recognition in Barnsley! Looking ahead to 2025, we’re excited about the new adventures and bigger team waiting in the wings.
I hope you enjoy our last newsletter of the year and join in with our festive competition, count the Christmas elf hats throughout for your chance to win Fish & Chips for Two at The Waggon & Horses. We also have a festive spot the difference if you fancy having a go at finding them all on your next tea break!
Chris Gillis Managing Director Infinite Fire & Security
4. Winter Training: Conduct training sessions for staff on how to handle fire hazards specific to winter, such as risks associated with heating equipment or holiday decorations.
5. Thermal Imaging: Utilise thermal imaging cameras for inspections. They can help identify overheating in electrical equipment, which is especially important during cold weather when heating systems are heavily used.
4. Proper Attire: Remind staff to dress in layers and wear appropriate cold-weather gear, including insulated gloves, hats, and waterproof boots.
5. Driving Tips: Advise employees to drive slowly, maintain a safe distance from other vehicles, and be cautious on icy roads.
6. Report Hazards: Encourage employees to report any icy patches or hazardous conditions at job sites so that timely actions can be taken.
On 20th to 25th March 2025, MD Chris will be joining some friends and trekking across the Sahara.
Yes, you may think he’s nuts, but if Chris gets an opportunity to do something, he’ll take it. Chris will be raising money for Blythe House Hospice who provide free care and support to people affected by cancer
and other life-limiting illnesses in the High Peak and surrounding areas. Every donation is hugely appreciated - Chris is hoping to exceed his target of £1,850. You can support Chris and donate via his Just Giving page by scanning the QR code.
In today’s world, ensuring the safety and security of your premises is more critical than ever.
Access control systems play a pivotal role in protecting assets, managing entry points, and enhancing overall security. As businesses and organisations increasingly prioritise safety, the benefits of implementing a robust access control system—especially with trusted products like those from Paxton—are clear.
At its core, access control restricts entry to authorised individuals only, significantly reducing the risk of unauthorised access. Paxton’s systems, such as the Paxton Net2, provide versatile and effective solutions for managing access. These systems allow you to set up user profiles and permissions tailored to specific needs, ensuring that only the right people can enter secure areas.
One of the stand-out features of Paxton’s access control systems is their user-friendly interface, which enables centralised management of all access points. This means you can easily add, remove, or modify user permissions from a single platform. Whether you’re managing a small office or a large multi-site operation, Paxton’s systems simplify administration, saving time and reducing the likelihood of human error.
Paxton products are designed to grow with your needs. Whether you start with a few doors or need a complex setup across multiple locations, their systems are easily scalable. The ability to expand your system without significant reconfiguration ensures that your security solution remains effective, as your organisation evolves.
Incorporating an access control system that works seamlessly with other security measures enhances overall safety. Paxton’s solutions integrate smoothly with various surveillance systems and intruder alarms, creating a comprehensive security network. This integration means you can monitor access and security from one central point, streamlining operations and improving response times to incidents.
5.
Paxton’s access control systems offer real-time monitoring capabilities, allowing you to keep track of who is entering and exiting your premises at any given moment. This feature is invaluable for identifying patterns, responding to security incidents, and maintaining a detailed audit trail. With easy access to reports, you can analyse data to make informed decisions about security protocols.
Ease of use is crucial for any access control system. Paxton’s intuitive design ensures that both administrators and users can navigate the system with minimal training. Features like mobile access control and smart card compatibility enhance user convenience, allowing for quick and easy entry while maintaining strict security standards.
7.
Investing in an access control system can lead to long-term savings by reducing the likelihood of theft, vandalism, and other security breaches. Paxton products, known for their reliability and durability, minimise maintenance costs and provide peace of mind, knowing that your premises are protected.
We pride ourselves with being a Paxton Gold Installer, our engineers are able to assist and advise our customers on the best products to suit you/your bespoke requirements. The latest generation of combining access control with video management provides surveillance of your site, increasing the security of your property without complicated integrations. With ultimate control on access in and out of your premises and security, using its simplicity of system management, including user friendly apps, its no wonder why more and more customers are opting to have Paxton installed.

What a year we have had with shows, especially now with exhibiting at Chatsworth Country Fair and Nidderdale Show in addition to the Great Yorkshire Show.
The weather behaved itself at both shows, not going to lie, it was a bit cooler, but given it was approaching Autumn - we can’t complain! The only time we didn’t keep dry was packing up from the Nidderdale Show!
Our very own Chris and Caroline exhibited at both shows, showcasing the latest CCTV and Ajax products, listening to concerns and discussing potential issues people are having and what problem solving solutions we could install for them. Some site surveys and installations have already happened and referrals are already being discussed.
With both directors coming from a country and farming background they can totally understand issues people have with protecting their own assets and also the stipulations and loopholes with livestock cameras. We have even been involved in looking at what grants are out there and helping writing the grant paperwork – we are not just about the problem solving installations it is the full package we support our customers with.

“ WHAT THEY SAID:
“Back in 2019 we reached out and requested Infinite to submit quotes for a Fire Alarm System, Intruder Alarm System to comply with our insurance requirements and Fire Extinguishers. Following a site survey completed by Chris and the generation and submission of this, Ben Jones, the Branch manager at the time was more than happy to confirm the order. Within a few weeks the project was underway and was completed on time, resulting in enhanced safety and security for our new building
in Barnsley, also on the back of the completed works, due to the warranties offered to us we also requested that Infinite Fire & Security maintained our electronic life safety and intruder alarm systems and they have done ever since.
I cannot recommend Infinite enough, over the years we have built up a brilliant working relationship and see them regular due to them also been a customer of ourselves since they started nearly 14 years ago!”

Workplace safety is a top priority for employers and employees alike. Creating a secure and hazard-free environment is not only a legal requirement but also a moral responsibility.
A key element of workplace safety is the fire risk assessment, a systematic process that identifies potential fire hazards, evaluates the associated risks, and implements effective strategies to mitigate those risks. We are here to explain the importance of fire risk assessments and their vital role in improving workplace safety across the UK.
The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (FSO) is the main piece of legislation governing fire safety in buildings in England and Wales. The 5 key elements are:
• Decide who is the Responsible Person
• Carry out a Fire Risk Assessment
• Implement Fire Safety and Evacuation plans – ensure all those involved are trained and informed
• Ensure Adequate Fire Safety Equipment, ensure it is maintained
• Be aware of Enforcement, appeals and penalties relating to Fire Safety
A fire risk assessment is a comprehensive documented evaluation of a workplace to identify fire hazards and assess their potential impact. The process involves several key steps:
1. Identifying Ignition Sources: Recognising potential sources of ignition, such as faulty electrical equipment, open flames, or heat-producing processes.
2. Assessing Fuel and Oxygen Sources: Evaluating materials that could feed a fire (e.g., flammable liquids, textiles) and the availability of oxygen that could exacerbate a fire’s intensity.
3. Identifying Individuals at Risk: Determining who could be affected by a fire, including employees, visitors, and vulnerable individuals.
4. Evaluating the Likelihood and Impact of Fire: Assessing the probability of a fire occurring and the potential consequences for people and property.
5. Reviewing Fire Safety Measures: Evaluating existing fire safety provisions and identifying areas for improvement.
6. Documenting Findings: Keeping a detailed record of the assessment, including identified hazards, risks, and recommendations.
7. Creating an Emergency Plan: Developing a clear and concise emergency action plan that outlines procedures to follow in the event of a fire.
8. Regular Updates: Ensuring the assessment is reviewed annually and updated regularly, especially after significant workplace changes, such as renovations or alterations to work processes.
Fire risk assessments are essential for several reasons:
1. Legal Compliance: The UK has stringent fire safety regulations, which requires businesses to conduct regular fire risk assessments. Non-compliance can lead to hefty fines, legal repercussions, and even prosecution in severe cases.
2. Fire Prevention: Fire risk assessments play a vital role in preventing fires by identifying and mitigating potential hazards. This proactive approach significantly reduces the risk of fire incidents occurring.
3. Protecting Lives and Property: Effective fire risk assessments safeguard the lives of employees and visitors and protect property and assets from fire damage. By implementing appropriate control measures, businesses can minimise the potential impact of a fire.
4. Insurance and Liability: Conducting thorough fire risk assessments can positively influence insurance premiums and coverage. Insurers often require proof of regular assessments to mitigate risks associated with fire-related claims.
In summary, fire risk assessments are a vital aspect of workplace safety in the UK. They help businesses comply with legal requirements, prevent fire incidents, protect lives and property, and reduce insurance costs. By following best practices and conducting thorough assessments, employers can create a safer working environment for all. Prioritising fire safety not only fulfils a legal obligation but also demonstrates a commitment to the wellbeing of employees and the sustainability of the business.
