Letter from the Superintendent Immanuel at a Glance Admissions & Financials Athletics Agriculture and FFA Performing Arts Elementary Programs Summer Offerings Mission Mindset Fundraising Report Traditions Ways to Support

FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT It is my great honor and privilege to be the Superintendent of Immanuel Schools. I could not be more proud of who we are and of what our school is called to accomplish in the Kingdom of God. God has truly blessed the ministry of Immanuel Schools. We are excited to announce that we will be celebrating 80 years of ministry this coming spring! Immanuel Schools (formerly Immanuel Bible Academy) first opened its doors in 1944. What a legacy of God’s faithfulness we have been entrusted with. We have the amazing privilege to share God’s Word each and every day through devotions, Bible class, chapel, activities, and events. We consider it a great blessing to be a part of our students' lives and be able to watch them be transformed by the work of the Holy Spirit. We are very thankful for the opportunities the Lord has given to Immanuel and our community to live out our mission, which reminds us “to serve God and neighbor through mind, body and soul based on a Christ-centered foundation.” Please know that we are committed to keeping Christ the center of all that we are and do, and unashamedly ask that you consider helping Immanuel to become all it can be for the glory of God. In this Annual Report there is a summary of our 2022-23 school year and we also share ideas and tools to help financially support our school. Thank you for your continued support and prayer. Go Eagles! In His Service,

Ryan Wood Superintendent 05

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:1-2

Agriculture/FFA Learning to Do, Doing to Learn, Earning to Live, Living to Serve Agriculture runs through the very core of our community. Naturally, having a robust agriculture and FFA program is essential. The Immanuel Agriculture and FFA Program is a dynamic organization that changes lives and prepares students for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success. During the 2022-23 school year, we had over 100 members within our chapter. Membership is open to those students who are enrolled in an agriculture education course at Immanuel. They can participate in contest areas and earn recognition through our chapter and state. We have had student representatives at the Sectional, Regional and State levels for the last 7 years, along with a National Delegate, Nominating Committee member, Committee Chair, and State Officer candidate and finalist.

State Champions Tree Pruning Team Written by Kendra Ward, Immanuel Senior Fruit tree pruning is a career development event, and is one of the many events that FFA members can participate in. Fruit tree pruning is only widely known in California, because of the large amount of stone fruit grown here and the much smaller amount grown elsewhere. Since California has the best conditions to grow stone fruit in large quantities, the fruit tree pruning contest is only offered at the state level. Because of this, the highest title that can be won is a state title. I was on the tree pruning team for two years, my sophomore and junior year. For both years the practices would consist of two hours out in the field learning how to prune or in the classroom reviewing test material. We were not only tested on our pruning abilities but also our knowledge of the trees. At the practices out in the field, we would prune the three types of trees used in competition: early peaches, late peaches and late plums. On the day of the state competition, everyone starts by taking the test. The test is 50 questions in length, with 30 minutes alloted for completion. After the test, we go out and rotate through four different classes of trees in 20 minute increments. The four classes are early peach, late peach, plums, and reasons why you are pruning certain parts of the tree. Each category has a total of 100 points, so the whole contest has a total of 500 possible points to earn. One of the main reasons I decided to participate in fruit tree pruning is because my dad used to be a stone fruit farmer. I have family that is still farming stone fruit. Another reason was that my sister and two of my cousins had participated and won a state title in fruit tree pruning. I wanted to keep the tradition alive and bring another state championship home! My first year on the team was fun but also challenging, as I had no proper knowledge of stone fruit. I knew the basics but not the details that were needed for the competition. As a team in our first year, we won second in the state, and I won the first high individual award. Being that close to winning a state title, it gave us the determination to come back the next year and win as a team. In my second year at the state competition, I won again the title of first high individual. Our team won first in the state! We had finally done it! This was an amazing experience and such a rewarding process. All of us who were on the team have gained so much knowledge about stone fruit that can be used later in our lives.

Chamber Choir Travels Written by Ryan & Amy Jackson, Immanuel Parents Our experience as chaperones on the Ireland and Scotland Chamber trip will not quickly be forgotten. We were so thankful to have been able to step foot into cathedrals and hear our Chamber group sing songs of praise to the Lord. Tourists from all over the world would walk through mindfully, some expectant of some type of spiritual experience, I am sure, others admiring architecture without a care of spiritual things. When they walked into the cathedrals as our group was singing they were met with beautiful music shared, probably more than they were expecting. Some eyes welled up in tears, some even let them pour down their faces, children stopped in amazement, and most tried to find a seat in a pew to enjoy the entire musical set.

14

to Ireland & Scotland The Chamber Choir had been practicing these songs for months in preparation and some of them were even in foreign languages that I am sure some tourists understood. We hear stories of European countries whose churches are now empty, we saw pieces of that, but in the hour or so that our choir was singing, the cathedrals were able to be used in-part for what they were intended…..praises to the Lord! I’m thankful for the moments of prayer I was able to pray over the hearts of the people who heard our children sing. Prayerfully I hope to see some of my tourist friends in heaven as the Lord waters the seeds He planted through our travels. I am so proud of our students! I wish you could have been there with me, as I am sure you would have been proud of them too!

Elementary Initiatives After School Care & Summer Camp Program This year we implemented two new programs for our elementary students: After School Care and Summer Camp Program. The After School Care Program is offered daily to all elementary students after school until 5pm. It is run by members of the Immanuel supervision team and high school students are employed to assist. The first Summer Camp Program was held this summer for current Immanuel students. Students had fun spending time with each other, doing activities and crafts and engaging in lessons from the Bible; and they even had a few visits from some special presenters. Both of these programs were initiated to fill the need for additional care after school and during the summer for our working parents.

16

Summer Offerings For Students K-12

We had our second successful summer of Summer Offerings! We were able to offer several youth sports camps directed by our head high school coaches including baseball, basketball, volleyball, football, and tennis. We also offered an arts & crafts class with our high school art instructor. Some were open to the public while others were for Immanuel students only. It was a great opportunity for our students and community to stay connected during the summer and learn a new sport or skill.

MISSION MINDSET

“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” 1 Peter 4:10

Serving in the Dominican Republic Written by Luke Thomas, Immanuel Bible Teacher Over the summer 16 Immanuel students, 5 Immanuel teachers, and two former Immanuel teachers went on a Dominican Republic mission trip. The mission trip was organized by Students International and provided students with individual ministry sites where students could serve the community in sports, education, special ed, microfinance, and physical therapy sites. Students were led by site leaders mostly from Latin American countries. The students were exposed to some of the poverty issues in the Dominican Republic, as well as how Christians can meet those needs. Most students were given the opportunity to share their testimony at the site. Having taken four SI trips over the last five summers, I have been able to witness how students have benefited from going on mission trips. Coming back from the trips, many of the students have wanted to be a part of Bible studies and mentorship at Immanuel. The program at the Dominican Republic puts students in the habit of daily devotions, regular sharing times, and regular worship times. Two students who had graduated (Sienna Mehling and Maddi Martinez) made an effort to pass the baton of leadership to some of the freshman and sophomore girls on the trip. The students from the trip wanted to keep in the habit of regular Bible study and personal times in the word. Three Bible studies at Immanuel have started in my classroom as a result of the mission trips. All but one student wanted to share at the Immanuel chapel reporting on the trip. I currently have fourteen students in class who have been on a mission trip in the last couple of years. The fruit of students going on a mission trip is evident in the lives of the students. While on the mission trip, I wanted to share some of the ways God was faithful. First, not one student or teacher missed a day at their site because they were sick. Each student was able to fully participate in each day on the trip. Second, our team showed a ton of unity. We had four students join us from Texas and two from Kingsburg High. All of the students were able to unify and came back with a positive God-influenced experience on the trip. God moved in our Bible studies as we were able to dwell deeply on Jesus as God and man from the book of Hebrews. God was faithful to cover the finances of the trip through the generous giving in the Immanuel community. God was faithful to bring deep relationships between Immanuel students. Each student has friends in the Dominican Republic. The trips have been a great joy to me as I have been able to see God at work in the lives of my students and in a foreign country.

Israel Trip

Written by Hannah Barker, Immanuel Alumni (Class of 2023)

Israel is somewhere I knew I always wanted to go, but I also knew it would have to be in God’s timing. When I heard about the trip this year, I prayed that if God wanted me to go that He would provide. At first, I had peace about not going because I was trusting in God’s timing. Due to unfortunate circumstances, a student injured his foot and was unable to go. I was offered the opportunity to take his spot, all I needed to do was pay for my own insurance. I was filled with joy and gratitude. I couldn't hold my tears back. I truly saw God work and provide the opportunity for me to go. I keep going back to four different places and experiences that were highlights of the trip for me. The first would be the Wilderness of Zin. It's a place where Caleb, Joshua, and the other ten spies went to scout out where the promised land was. Hannah Goetz spoke at that site, she talked about facing our own giants and how the Lord is delighted in us, and that really spoke to me. The second place I loved was the Sea of Galilee, we stayed in a kibbutz/hotel right on the Sea. In the mornings, I was able to walk down and sit on some rocks while overlooking the sunrise and read in my bible about the miracles that happened right there. I felt the presence of God and I could hear Him speaking to me because there were no distractions around me. The third highlight was being baptized in the Jordan River where Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist. Even though it was my second time being baptized, I felt that this gave me a fresh start. It was so special to be baptized by Mr. Goetz while being surrounded and encouraged by those who have walked with me through the best times and the worst times. The fourth big highlight for me was seeing the garden tomb where Jesus was laid after His crucifixion. I could feel His presence still there and it reassured me and reminded me that He is coming again, and that is so exciting!

20

Touring the Holy Land Every day was spiritually impactful. God spoke to me over this trip in so many ways I haven’t seen before. He used others to pray over me and speak truth over me. One woman was from Texas, she started praying over me and declaring that God would use me and use my future family for His good. She had no idea some of the things that I had been praying about or struggling with, and it was such a blessing to feel like God used her to speak to me. If you are considering going on a trip like this, the first thing you should do is pray about it, He will give you an answer. I would encourage anybody to go on this trip if they get the chance. It completely changes the way you read the Bible, the way you see God, and the way you picture the places you have read about and imagined, but could never fully see. Now you can! I would also encourage others to not worry about finances, God will make a way for you if that is His will.

FUNDRAISING REPORT Stewardship Giving Reflects a Generous Community

In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ Acts 20:35

Annual Dinner & Auction MORE THAN $500,000 WAS RAISED THROUGH THIS EVENT! The 14th Annual Dinner & Auction is the primary, district-wide event to raise funds for the Eagle Fund. Over 640 guests gathered at the transformed Sports Complex for a beautiful evening that included an elegant dinner, a silent auction consisting of more than 300 items, a dessert auction, and an exciting live auction. Those who could not attend were still able to participate in the online auction. It was a very successful event due to our amazing parent volunteers and our generous donors and supporters.

23

The Eagle Fund The Eagle Fund is the annual fundraising campaign for Immanuel Schools. We strive to keep Immanuel an affordable option for families who long for a Christcentered education for their children. To that end, the tuition charged each student falls short of covering the total cost of educating that student. The Eagle Fund is designed to help fill the gap between tuition charged and the actual cost of education. Immanuel Schools is blessed to have a wide-range of faithful supporters which includes parents, grandparents, local businesses, local farmers, and alumni. We depend on these annual supporters in order to continue to provide the best educational experience for our students.

But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength;

Isaiah they shall mount up with wings like eagles; shall run and not be weary; 40:31 they they shall walk and not faint.

24

Stand In The Gap We believe that the life-changing experience of a Christ-centered education should be accessible to all families who value and are committed to its mission. We know that providing a student this life-changing experience is not inexpensive, but we believe the return on investment is worth every penny. Unfortunately, many of our families are unable to afford the full tuition of an Immanuel education. Just as God called His people to stand in the gap for their fellow believers in Ezekiel 22:30, we are asking our supporters to Stand In The Gap for the families and students who need support in paying the total annual tuition cost. Stand In The Gap directly funds financial assistance for families who qualify. This year assistance is being provided to more than 300 students, at a cost of over $970,000. PARENT TESTIMONIAL: “I am so grateful that I get to send my daughter to Immanuel every day. Generous donations make it possible for her to attend, and she continues to grow and share what God has done in her life.”

25

TRADITIONS Through the Decades

Immanuel Schools has a long history of providing a Christ-centered education to families in the Central Valley. Throughout the past 8 decades, many traditions have been established within our student body, and we are dedicated to continuing them for future generations. Here are a few of the traditions:

Fall Social Fall Social began in the 80s as a time of class bonding for our high schoolers at the beginning of every school year. Our students dress up in their class colors (freshmen-green, sophomores-pink, juniors-red, seniors-yellow), take group pictures, compete in various games, eat lunch together, and then conclude the day with a game of dodgeball. Over the years, it has taken on new forms, and currently is called the “Amazing Catfish Race.” The purpose is to encourage class unity, school spirit and a time for our students to make memories together.

Carry The Cross Chapel For over 20 years, our high school students have participated in the Carry the Cross chapel. This special ceremony begins with a prayer in our chapel followed by the Senior boys carrying a 7-foot wooden cross from our campus to the sanctuary at Reedley Mennonite Brethren Church. There is a time of worship and a short message encouraging the students to consider all that the Lord has done for them during the year and throughout their time at Immanuel. They are invited to take a nail and hammer it into the wooden cross as a symbol of their commitment to stand firm in their faith. To conclude the chapel, our Junior boys are called to the stage to carry the cross back to the chapel on campus. They are charged to become leaders as they move into their final year at Immanuel.

WAYS TO SUPPORT

Cash: You can make a gift with cash, checks, or credit cards at the Development Office or through the mail, or you can use the ease of online giving for credit card donations. Monthly or Yearly Pledges: You can give through an automatic one time, monthly, or multi-year pledge to Immanuel Schools that can be electronically debited, mailed in, or given online. Matching Gifts: Many employers will match their employees’ gifts to non-profits, such as private educational institutions. This provides Immanuel Schools with additional income and leverages your gift into a larger donation. Please contact the Human Resources Department to see if your employer matches charitable gifts. Commodities Giving: The gift of a portion of crop or goods (ie. one truck load, etc.) from your company before it is sold can allow you to lower your net income and still claim production expenses. Stocks or Securities: The gift of appreciated stock can result in significant tax savings for a donor. You may be able to obtain a tax deduction for the full value of the gift and avoid paying capital gains tax. Please contact Andy Souza who will work with you and your financial adviser on how best to make this type of gift to Immanuel Schools. Planned Gifts: Supporters may consider giving through bequests of real property, insurance policies, charitable trusts, retirement plan assets, and charitable gift annuities. Through planned giving, a donor may realize significant tax benefits while avoiding income and inheritance taxes. Please contact Andy Souza who will work with you and your financial adviser on how best to make this type of gift to Immanuel Schools. Gifts-in-Kind: Donations other than monetary donations, such as services and items, are appreciated because they free up funds that would have been used to purchase those services and items, allowing Immanuel Schools more flexibility on where to allocate resources. This is also a great way to contribute to our Annual Dinner and Auction event, as well as our golf tournament. Memorial or Honorary Gifts: Immanuel humbly and gratefully accepts gifts made in memory or honor of a loved one. Memorial tributes are often established by families who wish to commemorate a significant event or recognize an anniversary or other milestone in their life.
