Our Chamber Choir has recently gone on their annual Chamber Trip! This year they performed and competed in New York City, and returned with seven awards.

Chamber Choir is the most elite section of choir and consists of members with outstanding musical talent and ability.

Along with songs that they performed as a full group, there were also songs prepared for a Women’s Chamber Choir and a Men’s Chamber Choir.

Our Women’s Chamber Choir sang the songs Cantate Domino, Psallite, and Evening Grace They received an Adjudicator Award (having a score of 95 or higher) and Gold 2nd

Our Men’s Chamber Choir sang the songs Danny Boy and Betelehemu They received the awards Gold 1st, an Adjudicator award, and a Sweepstakes award (or having the highest average score between two top choral groups). Along with singing for competitions, the Chamber group also went to a few Broadway shows. They had the chance to see Hadestown, Wicked, and The Play That Goes Wrong. Mia Carillo spoke about the Broadway shows saying, “In my opinion, the best part of going on the Chamber Trip was getting to see all of the shows on Broadway with all of my friends. Oh, and seeing Jordan Fisher!”

Looking at performing arts from an outside view can sometimes be intimidating Going on stage and performing in front of hundreds of people is scary But if you really want to join, just go for it! In an interview with Jordan Solorio, he provided some encouragement for those worried souls, “Personally, I would say that if you are thinking

about joining performing arts, don’t overthink it. Just join. If you believe you have a talent then you most likely do. No one is perfect their first time in anything, but our program will give you the skills and confidence to enjoy your craft and become better in the process.”

For people in sports, choir and performing arts comes with a lot of team work as well. Mia Carillo says, “Teamwork is such a big part of performing arts, we all have to be on the same level of wanting to win.”

Someday, if you possibly work hard enough, you could have the chance to go on your own Chamber Choir Trip

A final point from Jordan Solorio states, “The best part of the chamber trip is the people you get to hang out with The sightseeing and cool places you go do help and are fun, but the people you get to experience those things with make it so much better My chamber trip memories that I end up remembering are the car rides with everyone laughing and messing around. That is the best part of the trips, and chamber in general.”

Our school provides so many different opportunities in performing arts. Chances are, there is a place where you can fit in, and find that you are much better at something than you ever thought.

Thanks to our school for allowing the performing arts department to travel, and perform. Thanks to the choir kids for giving up their time and putting their all into their art Special thanks to Mr Merritt for all of his time in effort in making sure that the choirs are the best that they can be

Nation Day and Squawk Rock!

Nation Day was a blast! It consisted of many fun activities and all the tribes had a chance to compete against each other and have a good time. The winning tribes were SABAOTH with a final score of 1009 and JIREH with a final score of 1054!

I took the opportunity to interview Miss DenHartog (the tribe coach of SABAOTH) and this is what she had to say about Nation Day!

What was your experience like on Nation Day? It was a beautiful and fun day! The weather was super nice, I loved getting to be outside all morning playing games. The station I had was pretty funny to watch as people crawled across the grass 'herding' their cotton ball sheep with spoons. And then I loved Squawk Rock after lunch too! The acts that performed CRUSHED it, and I got to live out some of my own rockstar dreams too.

The activities were fun and each game included a little kick making me really enjoy myself The lunch breaks seemed to be everyone's favorite because almost every person was burnt out by the second game I'm hoping everyone has fun and that this event gets even better next year.

Page 2

What was your favorite part of Nation Day?

Besides SABAOTH WINNING, my other favorite part was Mr. Baltazar's performance of Un Poco Loco, especially the suave dance moves.

What was it like winning and do you believe you will win next year?

I love to win! And I'm just so proud of my Sabaoth girls for committing to the challenge They bought in fully this year, through March Forward and Nation Day, and I couldn't ask for more And yes, I believe that we can win again! We have such a great group of girls I know that people will step up to fill the leadership positions that seniors are vacating, and we will continue to push each other to be our best.

This brings us to Squawk Rock. Now, I don’t know what I was expecting but whatever happened that Friday was definitely not it. Overall, there were many great performances that happened that night. My personal favorite was the Beach one (the one that won) Very well performed and acted out Great job and great creativity!

After this they decided to pull random teacher names out of a bowl I don’t know whose idea that was but those teachers are unpredictable There was this crazy hispanic guy that was dancing like a lunatic on stage to Un Poco Loco, I think his name was Seniór Baltazar or something Definitely my favorite part but possibly left me scarred for life There were other teachers that participated but I think we could all agree that Baltazar did the best. Nevertheless, this was a great event and I’m glad I was able to participate in it.

A YEAR IN ATHLETICS

The 2023-2024 school year has been an incredible year for the Immanuel athletics department. From both the women’s cross country team and the women's basketball team winning the valley championship, to many of our individuals like Clara Riddle, Micah Goertzen, and Lily Atmajian being Tri County champions in their respective sports, the Immanuel athletics department is flourishing. The football team were the TCC co-champions, and men’s basketball won the sequoia division championship. The girls volleyball team were also the tri county conference champions, after an undefeated season The aforementioned girls cross country team won not only CIF, also known as the valley championship, but also the section title, and the celebrated girls basketball team won the Valley championship

Our athletics department is obviously thriving, but some individuals this year have gone above and beyond, fighting hard for their sport and displaying incredible dedication Some have been recognized, but others quietly shine for their team Both Mikah Tolpezninkas and Tad Tibbet hit one thousand points scored in basketball, and Natalia Delgadillo was the champion for women's golf. Lexi Schartman, a sophomore, has achieved incredible things with her talent for running, and won her heat in the mt. SAC relays, a prestigious competition, and earned herself an invitation to the Nike national competition. Spencer Horn showed her skill while playing both girls volleyball and beach volleyball, and Jenna Goertzen was voted MVP in the last game the girls basketball team played this year. Seth Hutchinson was also an outstanding athlete, playing three sports, including soccer, which he won defensive player of the year in.

As we say goodbye to our senior class, and usher out this year of sports, we’re also excited to see some new faces in the athletic world of Immanuel We asked Mr Stevens for a few names Zeke Bayardo and Evan Cavazos are two incoming freshmen to look for if you’re involved in wrestling, while other all around great athletes like Jonah Thomas, Briley Jackson, Jax Davidson, Abby Thomas, Ella Renney, Brody Visser, Zack Masterson, Rebecca VanLeuwen, and Cash Montano will soon be on our campus Chloe, Kendra, and Kai Stevens are all thriving in their respective sports, with Chloe playing volleyball and running track, Kendra hoping to be in next year’s cheer team, and Kai hoping to play both football and men’s volleyball. Mr. Stevens wants it known however, that he may be a little biased on that subject.

In summary, it’s been a great year for athletics- and the school will be celebrating that on May twentieth during the Eagles Athletic Awards Night. We’ll see you there to celebrate the teams, individuals, program, and athletes that make this school's sports the impressive department that it is.

FAVORITE FAVORITE FAVORITE LUNCHSPOTS LUNCHSPOTS LUNCHSPOTS

Every year, the upperclassmen have had the privilege to go off campus for lunch. With this special benefit, the seniors have enjoyed everything ranging from smoothies to sandwiches to crunch wraps. Here is a summary of what and where the senior class has enjoyed eating out this year!

Pizza is always a favorite especially when looking to split a meal among friends. Seniors Gaby Ramirez and Carly Santellan enjoyed going out to Domino’s and splitting a pepperoni pizza among their friend groups

Switching gears to a different type of food, Aliya Mendez, Rohila Mamatkulova, and Mackenzie Hernandez favored Asian restaurant Yoi over China Garden for their California rolls and great taste

Going right next door to a healthier option, both Mia Jones and Charles Going loved to order the Acai bowls at Jamba Juice over the smoothies

Reedley has a variety of Mexican restaurants like Ortegas or Juanitos. But rather than sticking in town, Leah Thomas likes cutting it as close as she can by driving to the Selma Chipotle She doesn’t have a favorite but orders whatever Shane gets Jordon Solorio will also take an occasional trip out to Chipotle if he’s not eating in his car or with his group of of friends.
