Immanuel's Democratic Party Takes The Win by Alex Hughes

Democratic nominee Winston Williams won this year's civics class mock election. The Democratic Party had 42 percent of the popular vote, which made them the most voted for compared to the Republicans 14 percent, Democratic Socialists 7 percent, Libertarians 17 percent, and American Solidarity 20 percent. That being said, the winner of this year’s mock election wasn’t determined by the popular vote. Like the real election, this year’s mock election was held not only on the same day, but it also used the same voting system: the Electoral College. In the Electoral College, each state gets a certain number of votes based on the number of delegates they have. This system is used to make sure that certain larger states like California and New York don’t have complete say over who wins the Presidential Election.

The candidate who gets the state’s votes is determined by the state majority. In the mock election, each second period class got a chance to vote. The total number of students represents the number of votes the class had, and all of those votes went to the candidate that had the class majority. This was different from years past which counted each student as an individual vote. Of the Electoral Vote, the Democratic party got 49 percent, Republicans 3 percent, Democratic Socialists 4 percent, Libertarians 25 percent, and American Solidarity 18 percent.
