ThecoldweatherinMadridonNovember14didlittletodeter the IMI team as they laced up their running shoes and gathered for a cause close to their hearts Together, they joined ACANPAN (Pancreatic Cancer Association) in The Cities Race Against Pancreatic Cancer, an event dedicated to raising awareness and funding for the fight against the disease. In Spain, more than 9,800 people are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer every year. Unlike other types of cancer, there is no standard test for the early detection of pancreatic cancer, which is the third leading cause of cancer-relateddeathsinSpain
WhyItMatters
Pancreatic cancer is notorious for its vague and nonspecific symptoms, which frequently go unnoticed or are misdiagnosed until the cancer has advanced. Greater investment in advancing early diagnosis and treatment for pancreatic cancer is crucial to offering hope to patients and their families.
By sponsoring The Cities Race Against Pancreatic Cancer, the IMF is helping raise resources for cutting-edge research and improving the knowledge of the disease. According to ACANPAN, less than 2 percent of official grants in Spain are allocated to pancreatic cancer research.
RebuildingEducationinEarthquake-StrickenHatay
On February 6, 2023, two heavy earthquakes hit southeast Türkiye, destroying 210 schools and severely damaging 175 others. Hatay province was one of the most heavily affected areas. The destruction disrupted the education of thousands of children, many of whom have struggled to resumetheirstudiesamidstlimitedresources.
In response to this critical need, IMF partnered with the Ahbap Association to support the Light Steel School Project, focused on constructing safe and durable educational facilities to ensure children can return to school. IMF’s support is helping create key resources within these new schools, including a library and a music room, providing students with access to enriching and inspiring spaces to learn, explore, and grow. These facilities aim to restore a sense of normalcy forchildrenaffectedbythedisasterandensuretheyhavethetoolstobuildabrighterfuture.
