COMPONENT 2

I will be redesigning a site of retail stores and transforming it into a smaller-scale retail park … .
My site is located in Dagenham, and around the site are other stores such as Gold’s Gym, Fix Auto, Taylor & Jarvis (Architectural Ironmongers) Ltd., and other odd convenience stores and restaurants. These stores are more likely to be visited by relatively young adults interested in furnishing homes – which would suggest they have likely just moved or are buying a home for the first time.
For this reason, my site should be welcoming and unintimidating to customers.
Specifications:
➢ Stores must have unique, and separate designs so that each building is easily differentiated.
➢ Clear signs and guides to different store entrances.
➢ Avoid having an abundance of entrances or exits if not clearly labelled.
➢ At least one entrance or exit to each store must be large to allow for easier transportation of store items.
➢ Must have disabled access.
➢ Interior layout must be easy to follow and navigate.
➢ Different categories of furniture and homewares are separated from each other and have their own dedicated spaces.
➢ Parking should be limited to their respective store locations.
➢ All parking spaces should be neatly contained and not obstructing view of the stores.
Will include the following rooms/spaces:
➢ Green space
➢ Parking
➢ Display, shopping isles
➢ Checkout isle(s)
➢ Outdoor seating
➢ Lift access
Info about site
My chosen site for Component 2 a cluster of retail shops for hardware and furniture – Furniture Outlet Stores, Topps Tiles, ScrewFix and Toolstation.
These stores all have in common the domestic-enhancing functions their products carry out. For this reason, I think a suitable theme to follow would be Mountainrelated, given its connotations of strength and hardness.
The site offers:
➢ Stor a-File Ltd. (Storage facility)
➢ Rusky’s Kitchen
➢ Selling general furniture, seats and upholstered suites, and specialised items.
➢ Tiles, natural stone, and other tools and essentials
➢ Trade tools, accessories and hardware products
➢ Electrical, plumbing, screws, fixings and trade essentials
However, issues I have found with the site purely based on appearance are:
➢ Inharmonious, jagged clustering of retail shops.
➢ Buildings are cramped with little space between them.
➢ Unattractive aspects to each building on the site.
➢ Generic, greyscale palette.
➢ Confusing and chaotic parking.
➢ Lack of clear signs showing where each shop is located
KEY:
= Areas for redevelopment
= Areas to be left untouched
3 Stories, escalators and stairs available
Retail stores placed next to one another
Hyperlane Retail Park is a 2.4km long urban landscape corridor consisting of 12 plots, spanned across the sky garden corridor, overlooking the city and project entrances, its design ideal for diverse social gatherings, outdoor exhibitions, installations and a wealth of public attractions.

Mountains usually have steep, sloping sides, with sharp or rounded ridges and a high point (the peak). They rise prominently above its surroundings. A mountain range is a series or chain of mountains that are close together.
They may also symbolise strength, solidity/stillness, eternity, permanence and rigidity; looked upon as sources of inspiration, renewal, wisdom, creativity, and vision.
Mountain peak
Represent layers of mountain
Could be different floors
Mountain base
Sharp peaks, different levels/positions
Some curved, some straight
Buildings interlocking, Sharp-edged building vs blunt-edged building
Strips turned to buildings
– two structures with sharp peak, two structures rounded
Open space structures
Flat side presents as entrance
First peaked building redesigned in Sketch Up
Potential interior layout (ground floor)
OHLAB’s “In-sight” store, located in Miami, Florida
These structures would make up the shelves in one (or some) of the retail stores.
My chosen Site
Transformed into Sketch Up model
Tree transformed into a bush
Having completed my model outcome, my project.
Through the analysis of my site space effectively in my design pleasing to the eye; my research and develop my ideas and execute model making.
Regarding my brief and specifications signs to my physical model and design aspects, I am pleased with site. My buildings are not overbearing their functions, I have allocated allowed space for parking surrounding
Given the chance to improve my of my components and include on the stores themselves or on
outcome, I want to evaluate the success of
site and its location, I learned how to use the and laid out my buildings in a way that is research and study has allowed me to explore execute my concepts more accurately through
specifications – although I hadn’t introduced any and only briefly touched upon the interior with the overall layout and aesthetic of my overbearing and are appropriately scaled for allocated green spaces to my site and neatly surrounding the buildings.
my work – I would perhaps laser-cut some the names of the stores in signs either on an empty area of the site.
