Introduction We believe that scientific research and technical development are the main basis of sustainable development, in our endeavor to introduce our researchers with an archive of their scientific laboratory devices, funded by King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST), which aims to coordinate aspects of national activity for science, technology and innovation and supporting scientific research; to enable society to achieve a promising future for the national economy and strengthen national capacities; through committing to technical research and development, along with supporting local and international partnership for technology transfer, indigenize and develop technology, and invest in developing technology and equipping it commercially.

Accordingly, The Deanship of Scientific Research at Imam Abdulrahman bin Faisal University represented by the Scientific Research Marketing Unit has prepared this guidebook, which conducts with a definition of archiving scientific research devices funded by (KACST), with the aim of getting acquainted with these scientific devices; By explaining each device in details, such as the serial number of devices, their models, and the importance of the devices. The booklet also includes illustrations of these devices, and the Scientific Research Marketing Unit has sorted the specialized devices and general devices.

It should be noted that, through this booklet, we have worked to collect all information related to scientific research devices funded by CACST (King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology), and to explain each of these devices in text and images, in order to facilitate the task of researchers in performing their research tasks and conducting their scientific experiments, and to promote our society seeks scientific research to its highest levels, to become a knowledge-based society, rich in science, full of potential, striving to make the country occupy a prominent position on the global level, in line with the outputs of the Kingdom's 2030 vision.

We would like to point out that the scientific research devices are still many and numerous, and we will not hesitate to work on defining them and facilitating access to them by researchers, so that the scientific research environment is abundant in proportion to its capabilities and aspirations.

It is important for the research community to be supported with scientific devices that contribute to enhancing the value of scientific research, and expand research culture in society, which works to support researchers in performing their assignments and conducting research experiments, with easy ability and high accuracy, it represents an important factor in meeting the academic, research and advisory demands of students and researchers. Due to its great importance in raising the quality of scientific research in all academic and research institutions around the world.

Emphasizing on this, and in an effort to develop the base of the national research devices, and to achieve the objects of the Deanship of Scientific Research in upgrading the research quality, the Science and Technology Unit, implemented by the Deanship of Scientific Research, sought to prepare this booklet, which aims to introduce the archiving of the scientific research devices, which shows a sorting of the specialized and general scientific research devices funded by the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST), and provides a detailed explanation of each specialized research device; in a way that preserves all the information and ensures optimal uses of the devices, which is important for researchers and research laboratories, with the aim of informing researchers and whoever is interested of these details; in accordance with the research assignments, and to enhance the scientific information on the research field, and for that reason, we have issued this booklet for all researchers. In this regard, we should commend the efforts made by KACST in promoting and supporting the scientific research environment in a manner befitting the stature of this great nation, and in line with the Kingdom’s vision 2030, and we ask the almighty Allah for continued success.

SYSTEM

Gel documentation system or gel imaging analysis consists of a light-tight cabinet with a transilluminator installed in it and a camera positioned on the top of the device then, the gel is placed inside the cabinet and after closing the cabinet the UV light and camera switched on. Using the GENEsys application, images of the analysis are captured and GeneTools software analyze data on a computer. The purpose of the device is to record, and measure labeled nucleic acid and protein.

Field of application: In gel and blot imaging, immunoassay, multiplex protein detection and post-translational detection.

SYSTEM

The CHEF-DRŽ III variable angle system combines patented PACE technology and proven CHEF technology into one easy-to-use instrument that lets you use up to three blocks of run conditions to generate high-resolution separations; specify any electrophoresis angle from 90 to 120°. Separation of chromosome-sized DNA can be achieved in almost half the time previously possible, without sacrificing resolution. Each CHEF-DR III system is supplied with a power module, electrophoresis cell, variable-speed pump, and accessory kit. The CHEF-DR III chiller systems also come with a cooling module.

Field of application: The ability to program the angle of electrophoresis with the CHEF-DR III system enables fast, high-resolution separations of DNA molecules ranging from 200 kb to >6 Mb. The CHEF-DR III system allows selection of the optimal voltage gradient, switch time, and angle for the specific DNA size range. Separations can be further optimized by programming up to three consecutively executing blocks of run conditions, increasing the variety of possible run conditions.

Surface area analyzers help researchers obtain the area or pore size of surfaces on samples as diverse as pharmaceuticals and activated carbon by measuring their gas sorption capabilities.
