LINEUP FridaySEPT 25 Provincial Building Coffee Kick Off Party 10320 99 Street Main Foyer 10am – 11am Co-hosted by The Centre for Creative Arts, Alberta Culture and local cultural organizations, everyone is welcome to attend this refreshing event. Enjoy coffee and goodies, meet volunteers from local arts and culture groups and find out more about their programs, take in some great art displays and enjoy live music and dance by local performers. Pick up your Grande Prairie Alberta Culture Days Guidebooks here and get information on all of the weekend’s exciting events.

Art of the Peace Magazine Launch 10320 99 Street Main Foyer 10am – 11am Art of the Peace Visual Art Association will be launching the Fall 2015 magazine during the Culture Days Coffee Kickoff Party. Come by to meet featured artists, view works on display, and pick up the latest edition of Art of the Peace magazine.

Muskoseepi Park Amphitheatre Hip Flick Hoops Spin Jam 5pm – 7pm Join Hip Flick Hoops at Muskoseepi Park for a “Spin Jam” using both adult and child hula hoops as well as other flow toys. While this is not a structured workshop a hoop dance instructor will be on-site to share some fun hoop moves! This is a great opportunity to try something new, practice your skills or share your knowledge with others. Hoops and other props will be provided but please feel free to bring your own!


Montrose Cultural Centre Art of the Peace: Pop Up Art Show Teresa Sargent Hall 7pm – 10pm

40th Anniversary Celebration

7pm – 11pm

Please join us in celebrating the Art Gallery of Grande Prairie’s 40th Anniversary with the official naming of the Euphemia McNaught Gallery, the Evy McBryan Gallery, the Carlstrom Famiy Green Space, and the unveiling of Night School, a public artwork created by Lethbridge-based artist David Hoffos.

Join us on the hill at the Muskoseepi Park Amphitheatre to take in live music and an outdoor screening of independent films produced right here in the Peace region. 7-9 will be music in the park followed by Grande Prairie local short films 9-11pm. Due to mature subject matter suggested audience is 14+

SaturdaySEPT 26 Grande Prairie Public Library Literary Craft Workshop Discovery Room, GPPL 10:30am Join Grande Prairie young adult authors, Karen Bass and J.M. Lavallee for this unique workshop featuring crafts inspired from their novels! Create your own protest graffiti like Wilm in Graffiti Knight and learn how to craft Celtic charms like Melanie and Shawn in Deep Calling. Registration required. Register online or call 780-357-7455. Maximum: 20 participants. Audience: ages 12+

Book Talk: Uncertain Soldier and Deep Calling Reading Lounge, GPPL 1:30pm Hear an excerpt from the novels Uncertain Soldier (Karen Bass) and Deep Calling (J.M. Lavallee) read by the authors, and find out a little bit more about the inspiration behind these novels. Coffee and cookies will be provided.

GP Photo Club Photo Walk Discovery Room, GPPL 3pm - 5pm Ages 14+ Photo Walk led by members of the GP Photo Club. Bring your camera and be ready to shoot.


Art Gallery of Grande Prairie

Sketch Party

In Conversation: Elisabeth Belliveau

We’re having a sketch party and you’re invited! This event is for artists and art appreciators of all ages. The Art Gallery is featuring artmaking activities inspired by the current exhibitions within some of the exhibition spaces and in the interactive gallery, the Carlstrom Family Green Space. Bring your sketchbook or journal – we provide the art supplies.

12:30pm - 1:30pm Interdisciplinary artist and published author Elisabeth Belliveau will be at the Art Gallery to speak about her work and her exhibition Margaret’s Mountain, currently on display. The artist talk will be held within the exhibition space, which screens a 13:06 minute stop-motion video animation.

Centre for Creative Arts 6th Annual Wearable Art Show 5pm – Free showing everyone welcome 7pm - Tickets are $30 Includes after party, purchase tickets in advance at the Centre for Creative Arts Back by popular demand, this exciting event challenges artists to delve into their imaginations to create works of art that can be worn on the body yet defy conventions of fashion. Any material can be used to create Wearable Art and artists incorporate unexpected mediums and eccentric forms to create truly unique pieces of art. Works are presented in a high energy, catwalk style showing that incorporates performance, music, lights, and wearable art. Select pieces will remain on display at the Centre for Creative Arts for the duration of the weekend. Prairie Tales 17: Alberta Short Films Rotary Community Room, GPPL 3pm - 4:30pm The Prairie Tales Media Arts Tour is making a stop in Grande Prairie. These short films celebrate the diversity of work created by media artists in our province. Complimentary movie snacks. Due to mature content ages 14+

Centre for Creative Arts Five Alarm Photography Competition and Exhibition Reception 3rd Floor Classroom 2pm - 4pm Join us in celebration of the 6th annual Five Alarm Photo Project, a friendly competition between 5 local photographers who will compete head to head in 5 creative categories, each supported by a team of local talents including models, hair and makeup artists and assistants. Celebrate collaboration, creativity and community. Free and family friendly, join us for refreshments and to meet the artists.


Grande Prairie Live Theatre Reel Shorts Sneak Preview 10130 98 Avenue 7:30pm – 9:15pm You’ve Got Male is a package of 7 short films from the US and Europe that will also screen at the 2016 Reel Shorts Film Festival in May. These dramas and comedies show the challenges faced by men as they try to live up to contradictory expectations in a complex world. Foreign language films have English subtitles. Art Gallery of Grande Prairie

Carl Beam Grande Prairie Regional College Collection Carl Beam (1943-2005) made Canadian art history as the first artist of Native Ancestry (Ojibwe M’Chigeeng First Nation) to have his work purchased by the National Gallery of Canada as Contemporary Art. He was reluctant to be defined as a ‘Native or Aboriginal’ artist, yet much of his work deals with the struggles of his people. He is considered an innovator in his development and use of a variety of media and techniques.


Margaret’s Mountain Elisabeth Belliveau Margaret’s Mountain is a stop-motion video animation made with articulated cutout drawings. In the suspended world of Margaret’s Mountain a cast of disparate characters congregate to conjure memories of love, longing, and loss. This exhibition presents a 13:06 minute video loop and 4 larger shadow boxes with the cutouts of the characters used to make the

A Life in Clay Bibi Clement Bibi Clement has been working in the arts for over

60 years. A Life in Clay celebrates two milestones for Clement: 40 years with clay as her main artistic focus, blending Japanese and Western influences, and her 75th birthday. Much of her work is fired in numerous wood-burning kilns which, according to Clement, allows her to bridge a perceived gap between functional and sculptural works.

In the Alley Wilf Perreault For forty years, Regina painter Wilf Perreault has wandered up and down back alleys recording a thousand fleeting impressions in a thousand memorable images. Recording alleys at every time of day and in every season, he has produced a living four-dimensional portrait of a familiar, but overlooked world — one that lies just beyond our back doors.


Ether and Procession Peter von Tiesenhausen Alberta artist Peter von Tiesenhausen has a fierce connection to the land. This exhibition includes works from the series Ether and Procession that are made up of etchings, and aluminum foil, chine colle, photo etching prints and small bronze sculptures.

Grande Prairie Public Library Grande Prairie Photography Club Exhibition Members of the Grande Pairie Photography Club will be displaying some of their favourite shots in this exhibition.

Centre for Creative Arts Peace Watercolour Society Fall Show and Sale Beautiful exhibit featuring 7 members of the Peace Watercolour Society. On display in the Centre gallery until September 27th.

Nature’s Bounty is Beautiful Lynn LeCorre Nature’s Bounty is Beautiful is a collection of pastel creations of vegetables that had started out as a nutrition blog. These pieces now make up the exhibit.
