ONGOING On June 7, 1933, Olwen Sanger-Davies left her home in East Sussex, England to begin a long journey by train to

Southampton, then steamship to Montreal, by train across Canada to Banff, and finally up to the Peace River Country

Friday 10am – 5pm Saturday 11am – 4pm Sunday 12pm – 4pm

on the Northern Alberta Railway. The purpose of her trip was to visit her younger brother Morgan, who lived just outside the Town of Grande Prairie. Along the way and throughout her five month visit, she collected memorabilia, took photographs, drew ink sketches and painted watercolours of what she did, the people she met, and what she saw. Her exquisite miniatures, as well as larger artworks and the memorabilia, were pasted into two scrapbooks and illustrated with almost daily entries describing the places she saw and visited. This book is a compilation of those scrapbooks. Olwen Warburton Sanger-Davies was born in 1891 in Canterbury, England. She was a gifted artist and won

Solace

several awards, including a gold award at the Exhibition of the Royal Drawing Society held in Kensington Palace in 1908. Another of her scrapbooks, kept while her two younger brothers—Morgan and Llewelyn—fought in France, is featured online as a valuable World War I history resource by the Hastings Museum in England.
