Alumni Spotlight Beth Mello graduated from IMA’s 100 Hour Course back in July 2021. Her work can be viewed on our Monochromatic Mood spread. Read our Q&A to learn more about her experience at IMA and after graduation.

Q: What inspired your interest in makeup artistry? A: One thing I’ll never forget is my mom teaching me the importance of self expression and the need for a creative outlet. She has always been a talented artist, but she sacrificed her dream of teaching art in Brazil to start a new life in the US.. Q: Now that you’re certified, what are some of your plans for your makeup career? A: I hope to establish myself as one of Atlanta’s best creative makeup artists. I absolutely love working with all of the incredible local talent.

Beth Mello Q: Would you recommend IMA? A: Absolutely! As someone who

elsewhere, I can confidently say

IMA

investment

is any

best

beginner

Q: What would be your dream job in makeup? A: My biggest dream is to travel the world as a makeup artist. As a polyglot, I want to find new places to practice speaking with locals and I hope to do so as a makeup artist on set at new and exciting locations across the globe. Q: How has your makeup artistry changed since taking classes at IMA? A: My makeup skills have improved tremendously! I came to IMA to perfect the basics. As a creative MUA, I tend to skip over the “boring stuff” such as skin prep + base. But throughout my time at IMA, I’ve learned that there’s so much that goes into creating the perfect look. From “no makeup” makeup, to runway artistry, IMA taught me ingenuity, finesse, and most importantly: confidence as an artist. Q: What was Ebony like as an instructor? A: Ebony is no doubt my new favorite teacher. Not only is her teaching style effective, but she goes the extra mile to help her students. I am so appreciative of her hands-on approach
