Unprecedented Worldcast on Environmental Problems for and by High School Students
The Silvio Laccetti Foundation has completed plans for a groundbreaking Zoomcast by and for high school students focusing on major environmental problems, seen from the perspective of youth who live in the affected areas. Participants will communicate with each other in realtime, face-to-face, live on Zoom. The presentations will be beamed from three continents and Greenland. Such dialogue and perspective promises to be free of jargon, platitudes and political preconceptions. Each presentation will promote a genuine understanding of local problems and offer suggestions as to local proactivity by young people. Arctic and Antarctic threats: melting icecaps, local impacts in Greenland. Tension between conservation and development in high value open spaces: the New Jersey Meadowlands, in the heart of the great New York City Metro area, and Novara, Italy. These topics will be framed by the Keynote Address by Connor Cunningham, a Duke University student of Environmental Studies and Policymaking. Connor’s address will lay out the parameters within which discussion will take place.
