“THE GREATEST POESTS OF ALL TIME” SABRINA BÁRCENA 2º Bachillerato Edgar Allan Poe is one of the greatest poets of all time. His creepy short stories, tales and poems as “The fall of the House of Usher” contributed to the horror and science fiction stories. It’s a great pleasure to read his works. I’ve recently read “The black cat” and other three short stories which I saw in the theatre. Undoubtedly, Poe has a beautiful way of describing things, with a very imaginative vocabulary. The main characters are almost always mentally

unbalanced people, due to this, his works are subrealist, because Poe investigates the depths of human psyche which is very interesting to read. What’s more, short films are made out of Poe’s short stories. It’s clear that Poe’s short stories are one of the greatest horror genres and pupils should read more literature in class because it’s wonderful. To sum up, Poe’s literature is fantastic and his horror works are really great to read.

Women’s Day was celebrated at IES Virgen de la Paz too. Our pupils were invited to write about these magnificent women who did so much for our Literature.

ANNE BRÖNTE MARIAM LAGAZASHVILI 2º Bachillerato I’m going to talk about Anne Brönte, who was a British novelist and poet, the youngest member of the Brönte literary family. She was one of the daughters of a poor Irish clergymen of the Church of England. Anne lived most of her life with her family. For a couple of years she went to a boarding school. At the age of nineteen she left Haworth where she worked as a governess between 1839 and 1845.After leaving her teaching position, she fulfilled her literary ambitions. She wrote a volumen of poetry with her sisters. She wrote two novels: “Agnes Gray”, based on her experiences as a governess; and “The Tenant of Wildfell Hall”. When Anne Brönte was only twenty-nine years old, she died of pulmonary tuberculosis. Anne Brönte is often overshadowed by her famous sister, Charlotte and specially by Emily who wrote “Wuthering Heights”. Anne`s two novels, written in a sharp and ironic style, are completly different from the romanticism seen in her sisters’ work. She wrote in a realistic style rather than in a romantic one. Her novels, have become a classic of English literature.
