Northampton Borough is planning to launch a Movies in the Park program this August, offering families free movies and activities every Friday evening through October. The program was announced during the July 17 borough council meeting. The first movie night, featuring a showing of “Minecraft,” is anticipated to take place on Aug. 1 at dusk at Municipal Park.
Last year, the borough received a grant for this community program. In addition to movies, the borough
plans to offer a variety of familyfriendly activities at the events, including face painting and princess visits. In October, they hope to offer residents a double-feature, premiering family-friendly Halloween films and, later, horror movies for teens and adults.
Movies and parking will be free.
The snack stand will also be open. Anyone interested in volunteering for the concession stand may contact the borough at 610-262-2576.
In other news, the borough recently received a grant from Northamp-
ton County for $100,000. This Livable Landscapes grant will be used towards improvements at the Fourth Street Playground. This is the second year in a row the borough has received this grant from the county. Borough council thanked the county for its generous award.
In conjunction with the Cindy Miles Adaptive Fund, the borough hopes to upgrade the playground and improve accessibility so that children of all abilities can enjoy the

For over 100 years, the Kiwanis Club has served the children of communities around the world. With over half a million members from more than 80 countries, the organization is dedicated to improving the lives of young people through service and leadership. Now, Northampton joins the ranks with the formation of its own Kiwanis Club, ready to make a difference in the lives of local children and families.
One of the newest Kiwanis Clubs in the State of Pennsylvania, the Kiwanis Club of Greater Northampton was officially established on June 4, with 18 members. This new club will serve children and young adults in the Northampton Area School District, including Northampton Borough, Bath Borough, Allen Township and East Allen Township.
“We are always looking for the opportunity to open new clubs,” said Tom Harp, the Kiwanis District Governor for the State of Pennsylvania. Harp is also a member of the Kiwanis Club of Allentown, which is mentoring the Northampton Area club as it grows.
“[Northampton] is one of the communities that seemed to have real potential and need,” Harp continued.
The Kiwanis Club’s main purpose is to “serve the children of the world.” Money raised through fundraising goes directly back to the community and its children. Clubs have published early learning guides, built Little Free Libraries, held bicycle safety events, sponsored scholarships, constructed gardens and playgrounds, and so much more.
The club also passes this dedication to leadership and service on to young adults through service organizations, such as the Key Club for high school students and the Builders Club for middle school students, raising the next generation of leaders.
While the Northampton Area club is still growing, Harp says similar clubs for local youths are planned for the future.
“We would like to eventually open up a Key Club at the high school,” he said. “Eventually, over time, this new Northampton club can start these youth clubs.”

toys and equipment.
During their meeting, the borough also appointed its newest Junior Council Representative. Xuan Lam, a student at Northampton Area High School, will serve a twoyear term alongside council. Lam was selected following a series of interviews with council and Borough
Manager Brian Welsko.
“Everybody was so impressive, and made me feel so good about the kids in this community,” Councilwoman Judith Haldemann, one of the interview panelists, said. “Xuan shined. She had some wonderful suggestions. She really brings a lot of talent to the table.”
Lam said she is excited for this new opportunity. In addition to being a strong student, Lam is also avidly involved in extracurriculars and helps out with her family’s business. Finally, council announced that a “successful” roundtable was held

with police, residents and the TriBoro Sportsmen Club on July 9. The purpose of the roundtable was to discuss safety issues following stray bullets allegedly coming from the property.
“The meeting was very informative, and it is imperative that the communication between our police department, citizens and borough officials be informative, and that all parties know we care,” said Council President Julia Kutzler.
“I thought the round table discussion that we had was outstanding," said Councilman Ronald Glassic. “I think it shows that our community is definitely concerned and is willing to step up and help people…and we didn’t take this as a light situation.”
“I think everyone is on the same page now,” Welsko added.
The next borough council meeting will be held Thursday, Aug. 7 at 7 p.m.
The Northampton Area club is currently planning its first series of fundraisers and awareness events. Harp said the team is excited to start making a difference.
“They have a lot of energy, enthusiasm and great ideas,” he said of the group, which elected officers during their June 4 organizational meeting.
These officers are Crystal Messer (President), Lindsay Hall (Vice President), Gail Taylor (Secretary) and Wendy Milhime (Treasurer).
Both individuals and businesses/ corporations can become members of the Kiwanis. Harp says the club is the perfect outlet for anyone looking to grow their leadership skills, give back or find a community of friends.
“What [members] want to do is make the quality of life in their community better,” he said. “[And]
be part of the solution…It is that belongingness that people look for and that becomes a springboard for action.”
The new Northampton club will meet monthly. Meetings are open to the public. The club posts updates regularly on their new Facebook page, www.facebook.com/ NorthamptonAreaPAKiwanis. Anyone interested in joining the Kiwanis Club of Greater Northampton can email President Crystal Messer directly at cmesser@ymcarivercrossing.org, or visit an upcoming meeting. To volunteer with the club, volunteers are required to be registered and cleared in accordance with Pennsylvania state guidelines for working with children.
Kids need Kiwanis, and now, children in Northampton have a team ready to serve, support and inspire them.

Project includes region's first women's health center
Submitted by
PRISCILLA TURBITT
Lehigh Valley Health Network, part of Jefferson Health, cut the ribbon last Monday for two new health centers at Tower Place – Health Center at Tower Place and Women’s Health Center at Tower Place. These facilities are built on the former site of Bethlehem Steel’s Martin
Tower, breathing new life into the site that has been empty for several years and establishing the region's first and only women's health center.
Joseph Cacchione, MD, Chief Executive Officer, Jefferson, welcomed community partners and colleagues. Dr. Cacchione spoke about the importance of LVHN and Jefferson Health coming to-
gether and what it means for the community and for Tower Place.
“The combination marked a new chapter in access, innovation, equity and opportunity for patients, colleagues, students and health plan members,” Dr. Cacchione said. “Tower Place is the latest example of Jefferson’s commitment to the health of this community. We will continue to make investments in all the region's legacy LVHN serves to make our communities healthier.”
The centers are now open to patients.
Bob Begliomini, President, Jefferson Health–Lehigh Valley Region, reiterated how the centers mark the ongoing commitment of Jefferson Health to invest in access to care.
“Our teams have worked tirelessly to plan, design and build these two centers,” Begliomini said. “They are an investment in health care in the region and will increase access to care in this community.”
Also in attendance was Amanda Flicker, MD, Interim System Clinical Leader for Women’s Health Service Line at Jefferson Health. Dr. Flicker commented on LVHN’s longstanding commitment to women’s health care.
“LVHN is proud to continue our more than 125-year history, which is rooted in empowering women,” Dr. Flicker said. “We continue that tradition today with the opening of the region’s first women’s health center. LVHN is doing what’s right for women at every stage of life with personalized care, innovative treatments and unwavering support through comprehensive women’s services.”
Dr. Flicker noted that 80% of the LVHN workforce is comprised of women, and it has pioneered specialized programs with women in mind – such as the WAVES program for women experiencing postpartum depression, the Women's Heart and Vascular Program and the highrisk breast clinic.

The Nazareth Area Chamber of Commerce, proud partner of the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce, is excited to an-
nounce the return of the iconic Martin on Main festival—a must-attend celebration of music, community and culture—on Saturday, July 26 from noon to 7
p.m. in historic downtown Nazareth, the proud hometown of world-renowned Martin Guitar.
Drawing over 5,000 attendees each year, Martin on Main is more than a festival—it’s a full-day community experience, bringing together local businesses, artists, families and music lovers from across the region.
Music and guitar lovers can enjoy seven full hours of entertainment throughout the day. This year both stages are organized by Nazareth Center for the Arts.
“The Nazareth Center for the Arts is thrilled to bring all the music to this year’s Martin on Main, featuring a packed lineup
filled with incredible local talent and exciting new faces you won’t want to miss!” said Jenny Swanker, president of the Nazareth Center for the Arts.
The main stage will be located at the corner of South Main and Belvidere streets, which will feature Martin Guitar Forum artists for the full seven hours. Be sure to check out the acoustic stage located in the Nazareth Circle. The Circle Stage will feature our impressive depth of local talent with rotating artists every half hour. Nazareth’s Main Street will be strummin’ and hummin’ all afternoon.
The Main Stage lineup will be: Craig Thatcher at noon, Burn Rocks at 1 p.m., The Big Wahu at 2 p.m., Ceviche Duo at 3 p.m., Dina Hall Duo at 4 p.m., and The Hazmats will close out the evening from 5-7 p.m.
While music fills the air, festival attendees will have the grassy, shady space of Nazareth’s Center Circle to set up chairs and picnic blankets along with plentiful seating and tables at the Main Stage.
Attendees over the age of 21 can find a new favorite beverage among Birthright Brewing, Clever Girl Winery and Easton Wine Project to beat the heat.
The NEDC’s Farmers Market will extend their hours from 9 a.m to 1 p.m. and shift locations to the northern portion of the Circle. The majority of the vendors will stay and join the festival until 7 p.m.
The entire Circle and Main Street down to Belvidere Street will be closed to vehicles and open to foot traffic to accommodate the local festivities.
Food truck vendors, such as local favorite Mon & Mel’s Sweet Scoops, Greek Street, Slide On By, Pie in a Cone, and more,
will have something tasty for everyone. An array of over 20 local craft vendors, artisans and businesses will also be on site.
Our Main Street businesses will be open and running a variety of sales and special offers to provide patrons with fun shopping opportunities.
We’re also thrilled to debut a brand-new Kids Corner at this year’s event, located in the YMCA parking lot. This vibrant, familyfriendly zone will be bursting with fun—complete with exciting kids games, face painting, take-home crafts and giveaways galore. Kids can jump into an epic video game truck, generously provided by St. John’s Lutheran Church, and enjoy hands-on fun throughout the day. Plus, the YMCA will be joining the fun with their own set of engaging activities for children of all ages. It’s the perfect place to play, create and make lasting memories.
“We at the Chamber love helping to facilitate investment from our local businesses in events like Martin on Main. Giving residents and tourists alike the opportunity to shop small and shop local keeps our community vibrant, our businesses strong, and provides our local artists a platform to perform. We are so excited for this festival and to showcase the very best of Nazareth!” said Elyse Cuttic, manager for the Nazareth Area Chamber of Commerce. And, what would a guitar festival be without the chance to take home a beautiful new instrument of your own? Thanks to our headlining hometown sponsor, Martin Guitar, the beloved guitar raffle is back—and this year, it features three brand-new models straight from Martin’s latest launch line. Even better, you don’t need to be present to win. You’ll have a chance to win not one, not two, but three stunning guitars from Martin’s 2025 release.
