RECORD $82 MILLION DIVIDEND TO PEOPLE OF IDAHO

During a public ceremony at Emmett Middle School, the Idaho Lottery commemorated their record-breaking 34th anniversary by returning the single largest dividend in history to the people of Idaho. The Idaho Lottery Commission presented Governor Brad Little with an $82,000,000 dividend check, a 12.3% increase over last year’s dividend.

“The Idaho Lottery makes a difference in every community in Idaho: for our citizens, for our small businesses, and most importantly, where it matters most, in our classrooms. Our schools and the state’s permanent facilities are the real winners. The Idaho Lottery’s Do Good initiatives today will bring continued benefits for tomorrow’s classrooms,” Governor Brad Little said.

Idaho Lottery dividends are used by school districts for building maintenance, repairs, and operational projects. This summer, the Emmett Independent School District concluded safety remediation efforts and is

now renovating the original 1957-era restroom facilities on both floors at Emmett Middle School.

“The project being completed at Emmett Middle School is funded, in part, by the Lottery’s dividend to the Emmett Independent School District. We are witnessing the reason why the Idaho Lottery was created by a vote of the people,” said Jeff Anderson, Idaho Lottery Director. “Each year, Lottery dividends deliver meaningful projects, like this one, that improve student safety and can lead to scholastic achievement.”

Governor Little and Idaho Lottery Commission Chairman, Craig Corbett, awarded the largest single check ever from the Idaho Lottery to support public education in the Gem State. Idaho Superintendent of Public Instruction Debbie Critchfield accepted a check for $51,250,000. Of this amount, $30,750,000 goes to the School Building Fund Account for maintenance and operations projects and another $20,500,000 goes to the Department of Education’s Bond Levy Equalization Fund to pay the interest on Idaho’s Public School bonds.

“As Idaho’s schools age and costs of maintenance continue to grow, Idaho Lottery funds play a crucial role in ensuring facility safety for our students, staff, and patrons,” said Superintendent of Public Instruction Debbie Critchfield. “Communities across Idaho will enjoy the benefits brought by funding from the Idaho Lottery. Thank you.”

Dale Reynolds, Chairman of the Permanent Building Fund Advisory Council, accepted a check for $30,750,000 on behalf of the State’s Permanent Building Fund. Permanent Building Fund dollars support maintenance and capital projects for State-owned facilities and Idaho’s public college and university buildings.

"The Idaho Lottery continually exceeds expectations to provide meaningful and necessary funding to support the Permanent Building Fund,” said Reynolds. “With the support of these dividends, we provide essential maintenance, repair, and facility enhancements that promote education and support our state infrastructure of buildings.”

This year’s dividend comes after the single largest sales year for the Idaho Lottery, exceeding $422 million in revenue for the first time.

“This is all made possible with funds from the Idaho Lottery, not tax dollars,” added Anderson.

In addition to the dividend and sales records, the Idaho Lottery also awarded a record amount in prizes to players worth $285.9 million, and the Lottery’s network of 1,200 brick and mortar retail locations earned a record $24.7 million in commissions.

Director’s Corner

Greetings,

On July 18th during a ceremony at Emmett Middle School, I had the privilege of returning this year’s annual Lottery dividend to Governor Little and the people of Idaho. It was $82 million, a new Lottery record and a 12.3% increase over last year.

On the anniversary of our Lottery, we upheld the reason we were created thirty-four years ago. We had a singular Do Good mission: to responsibly provide the largest dividend possible to the state for the benefit of public education and the State’s permanent buildings.

Today, our Do Good programs have grown to four. In addition to the dividend, we also have Scratch for Schools, Classroom Wishlist, and Bucks for Books. Beyond this year’s record dividend, the Idaho Lottery’s three recent Do Good programs have touched more Idaho public schools than ever before. This is why we do what we do…meaningful contributions to 540 school projects for a combined $326,000. These efforts make a difference in the classroom and, more importantly, in the hearts and minds of our educators and children.

What was true in 1989 when we began is every bit as important now as it was then – every play pays – our players, our good causes we support, our vendors, and YOU!

Your hard work, responsible sales, and dedication produced more retailer commissions earned than in any other year – nearly $25 million, one transaction at a time. That’s now over $300 million since our first ticket was sold on July 19, 1989.

For the year that was and for the year ahead, thank you for your support. Happy Selling!

ONE BUILDING AT A TIME

Founded on the eastern foothills of the Portneuf River valley in Pocatello, Idaho State University has been welcoming students to its campus since 1901. In 1966, ISU became the State’s designated leader for training and educating health care professionals.

The Life Sciences complex of buildings at Idaho State University in Pocatello is referred to as the “heartbeat” of the campus. It features the Lecture Center, the Gale Life Science building, and the Beckley Nursing building. In 1970, by 20th century standards, the facilities were considered state of the art.

In the past year, the primary lecture hall in the Lecture Center was renovated. Antiquated desks were removed, carpet replaced, and modern technology installed. This modernization and renovation project was completed using Lottery dividends through the Permanent Building Fund. This lecture hall, at one time or another, will see approximately 1/3 of all ISU students attend a class here, as well as hosting team meetings and film review sessions for the ISU Bengals football team.

Idaho State University, and all the public college campuses, constitute a good many of the State of Idaho’s permanent buildings. Since 1961, the Permanent Building Fund Advisory Council (PBFAC) was established to

or for alteration and repair projects on our college campuses. In thirty-four years, this totals over half-a-billion dollars.

Completing these construction projects are Idahoans working for Idaho companies. They are local tradesmen, craftsmen, electricians, plumbers, architects, and engineers. Any given project may involve any number of contractors and subcontractors to create updated, safe, and modern facilities, capitalizing on the millions of dollars that support local businesses from the play of Idaho Lottery participants.

Each year, the PBFAC prioritizes and decides which facilities are taken care of based on need, timeliness, and cost. It is a massive undertaking to coordinate. The need is real and often exceeds the resources appropriated. Take the Life Sciences facility at ISU for example. It is 53 years old, built before the introduction of the microchip. The building’s design, though modern for the 1970s, isn’t flexible enough today to accommodate building-wide WiFi without significant cost and investment. As the flagship for Health Sciences, the campus is developing plans for a new, 21st century modern facility to replace the aging facility.

The Idaho Lottery is pleased to do its part to provide the resources necessary for the Department of Administration’s Division of Public Works and the Permanent Building Advisory Council to continue improving the State’s facilities, one building at a time.

The sweet smell of winning just got an additional treat from one of the world’s most popular and oldest lollipops – Dum Dums! It’s the first Scratch game in the country to ever feature the favorite lollipop and the strawberry scented game features a sweet top prize of $10,000!

Dum Dums candy is quickly approaching its 100th anniversary in 2024 and to help commemorate this historic event, the Idaho Lottery teamed up with Spangler Candy in Bryan, Ohio to create the first ever Scratch game to celebrate the sweet treat. The manufacturer produces 12 million of these delicious lollipops every day and 2.4 billion Dum Dums each year! Dum Dums is the number one Halloween candy sold, which is why the Idaho Lottery will feature it, with two other tickets, in a special “Treat Yourself” Halloween campaign this year.

In the game, if any of the WINNING NUMBERS under the question marks match YOUR NUMBERS hidden under the wrappers of any of the dozen Dum Dums lollipops match, players win the prize shown. If they reveal a Cotton Candy symbol, they win double the prize. As an added bonus, players have the chance to win $10 instantly by revealing a strawberry symbol under the Mystery Pop!

Let your players know about the sweetest $2 Scratch Game, Dum Dums, when they visit your store, and they’ll soon discover that strawberry is the sweet smell

LUCKY ROOSTER OWNER WINS $100,000!

There are many reasons players buy the tickets they play, however recently the Idaho Lottery heard a first. That was when Richard Darnell showed up holding a winning $100,000 Lucky Rooster Bingo Scratch ticket he purchased from the Oasis Stop ‘n Go on Poleline Road in Twin Falls.

“I have three roosters, all named for characters from the TV show Northern Exposure: Maurice, Holling, and Fleischman,” described Darnell. “Every day, I hand feed them a granola bar. When I saw the ticket in the store, I just had to play it!”

Luck of the roosters paid dividends as Darnell claimed the first top prize of $100,000 in the game. He plans to use the winnings wisely, helping family, and saving as much as possible.

LUCKY STORE, LOCAL MAN HIT MOTHERLOAD IN CASCADE

Howdy’s Gas and Grub in Cascade is no stranger to selling big winning tickets, but this time, the lucky store in the heart of town sold the Motherload!

Longtime resident Ronald Young is a regular Lottery player and buys tickets between Howdy’s and a couple of other stores in town. On a clear morning over the 4th of July weekend, Young stopped in to get a few Scratch tickets, including a $30 Motherload ticket.

“I scratched the bar code and scanned it. It said I had to go to the Lottery,” described Young. “I got excited, got in my truck and took the ticket home. I scratched the rest of it there to see what I’d won. Wooh-wee, it was $300,000! I didn’t really believe it.”

Young said he plans to invest most of it, although he might use a little to support a teenage nephew who’s currently riding on the junior rodeo circuit. As for Howdy’s, they had previously sold two, $250,000 winning tickets. The Motherload is the largest winner for the lucky store at $300,000!
