EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR AWARD
2022: GERARD O’REILLY
Many congratulations to Gerard (Gerry) who has been crowned our Employee of the Year of 2022!
Gerry’s swift actions prevented significant damage to an aircraft engine at Dublin Airport. Strong winds had blown a baggage cart towards the engine of an aircraft. Gerard raised the alarm and ran to intercept it, managing to reduce its speed. As a result of Gerry’s efforts, the engine only suffered minor damage and the aircraft was able to depart safely.
Gerry is a Security Agent who joined our team at Dublin Airport in May 2016. Prior to working for ICTS Gerry was involved in aircraft engine maintenance and testing. Gerry was one of our Employees of the Quarter 2 in 2022.

£/€5000 (gross) bonus and a lapel pin.
GERARD -

“This is an honour as I was not expecting it. What I did came natural as I always looked around to pay attention to what was happening around me, both for my own safety and for the safety of others. The ramp can be a dangerous place and we have to look out for each other. I am very pleased to accept this award both for myself and for ICTS Ireland.”

THE UK OUTSTANDING SECURITY PERFORMANCE AWARDS (OSPAS) 2023 FINALISTS
We were delighted to be finalists in the following two categories: Outstanding Contract Security Company; Outstanding Event Security Team. Our entry for the ‘Outstanding Event Security Team’ category was based upon the terrific work carried out by our Canine Security Team at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Ashley Fernandes, Executive Director - Corporate Security, ICTS UK & Ireland, commented, “We are extremely proud of our teams being nominated finalists in two categories at this year’s OSPAs. As well as Outstanding Contract Security Company, it is very rewarding to see our Canine Security Team being recognised for their work supporting West Midlands Police at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Their focus and work ensuring that ICTS was the first private company in the UK to achieve the NCTAS-P standard ensures that we are leading the way in quality and expertise in the sector.”
The National Canine Training and Accreditation Scheme – Private Security Industry (NCTAS-P) is intended to provide the operators of sites procuring and using explosives detection dog (EDD) services with confidence in the quality of those services through accreditation of each EDD team (a specific dog and handler pairing). The NCTAS-P standard enabled our Event Security Team to work seamlessly in collaboration with the Police and Government Explosives Detection Dog teams.
The UK OSPAs gala dinner took place on Thursday 23 February in London.

Time To Talk
‘Time to Talk’ day is the nation’s biggest mental health conversation. Happening every year, it’s a day for friends, families, communities, and workplaces to come together to talk, listen and change lives. Talking about mental health isn’t aways easy, but a conversation has the power to change lives.

Business Assurance Department’s Safety Team: Hilary Curtis, Phil Linford and Olu OlojoKosoko attended our Time to Talk day on 2 February at our London Heathrow Airport contracts.

“We were escorted by the excellent Atta Bhatti (Duty Manager) and met several staff on the day: Operational staff including some of our Safety Champions, at the Virgin Atlantic check-in, a/c, ramp duty staff, and control room allocator personnel. In addition we met boarding - gate check staff for Delta. We also chatted to one of our agents who was there to board the Delta flight, on the jet bridge. We similarly managed a quick chat with the Delta crew who were very nice, and we explained the reason why we were wrote Phil Linford, Deputy

Our New Mental Health First Aiders
Many congratulations to our newly qualified Mental Health First Aiders from across the business:
CHRIS LEAN (REGIONAL MANAGER DATA CENTRES)
“Mental Health is so important; and speaking as someone who has suffered previously, due to the pressures of modern life, I found the training a great opportunity to offer a listening and supportive ear to my colleagues. The stigmas of talking about our mental welfare are a thing of the past, and it’s good to talk!”

“Absolutely delighted to have the opportunity of becoming a Mental Health First Aider. I am looking forward to supporting my colleagues and other members of the public.”

The Mental Health First Aid training showed me a different perspective of mental health issues and how to best help these issues with the skills taught in the training. Mental Health First Aid training is a very useful skill to have, especially considering the stresses both inside and outside of work.”
“
I feel the mental health first aid training was very informative to me in my role as the Line Manager/ Supervisor for the team here in Shannon Airport. It gave me the tools to show support and speak to any of my team members who might need support and access different types of resources like first level support and early intervention that could possibly help them with any mental health issues that arise inside or outside of the workplace.”
“Completing the Mental Health First Aid course is so valuable and important within the workplace as it has provided me with the tools to be able to support employees with the aim of providing good mental health at work. Being equipped with valuable information from a course like this allows us as a company to spot signs and symptoms of some mental health issues while being able to provide non-judgemental support and guiding employees to find sources of support elsewhere should they need it. People should be able to have someone to listen to them when needed including in the workplace. I feel proud to work for a company which is recognising and encouraging positive mental health at work.”

Becoming a Mental Health First Aider has given me a more indepth insight into people’s individual needs with regards to their health. I have always been a support network to colleagues, but this training has allowed me to support them to another level and give me the confidence that I was supporting them initially. This has also given me support in my own needs and to teach
Being a MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AIDER means that the brilliant Agents at Gatwick can have the help they need. Making sure that everyone knows the importance of a healthy work/life balance to improve THEIR lives is vital, firstly to them and secondly to ICTS. Being there in someone’s time of need is an honour and a privilege.”
“
I found the course to be very interesting and yet surprising at how mental health can affect someone in different ways. I welcomed the tools that I could use to help someone and also having the conversations with some of the course participants who have experienced challenges and were able to convey how they dealt with them. Overall, a very thought provoking course.”

The following colleagues are also newly-qualified Mental Health First Aiders:
GEMMA O'NEILL (SECURITY DUTY MANAGER GLASGOW AIRPORT)

ANNETTE GREIG (SECURITY AGENT ABERDEEN AIRPORT)
CALUM BROWN (SENIOR TRAINING MANAGERCANINE SECURITY SERVICES)
