MSRB’s Student-Led World Down Syndrome Day 2023

A group of Grade 9 and 3ème students are joining efforts and resources with the ICPC, the Learning Support, and the CCSL Departments to organize an event to raise awareness for World Down Syndrome Day.

Our student leaders of tomorrow have worked together, put up a plan, and talked to all relevant parties! Our students met with AUB’s Next Program students last week and were part of an inspirational talk and a Q&A with neurodiverse students. They have met with the physical plant for the booths, with the music department to organize the music detail, with the educational technology coordinator to create filters, and they have created flyers themselves!

They also hosted Ms. Hana Salem, the cofounder and Curriculum Development advisor of The Next Step Program at AUB and member of the Lebanese Down Syndrome Association, who joined them in raising awareness about Down Syndrome. She was accompanied by some students with Down Syndrome who shared their experiences. The presentation was held during an advisory for Grade 9 and 3ème students.

This project was fully student-led. Our students were self-directed, and this gave them the agency to achieve IC’s vision of being the global citizen leaders of tomorrow.
