Civic Commitment and Service Learning
Earthquake Relief Camaign
IC is committed to empowering its students to become global citizen leaders of tomorrow. An important part of this citizenship entails taking on social responsibilities and serving disadvantaged communities locally and internationally.
In the wake of the two massive earthquakes that hit south-eastern Turkey and Syria on Monday, February 6th, the students and the administration were mobilized to collect relief items such as clothes and shoes, hygiene items, blankets, towels, sheets, sleeping bags and Non-breakable kitchen utensils. This collection campaign was done in collaboration with the Lebanese Red Cross.
Students’ engagement was highlighted in all schools’ plans. For instance, at SS and MS (RB & AA), student representatives brainstormed about action, awareness, and promotion of the campaign. Students documented and reflected on their actions and shared their experiences on social media. At the SS, students took charge of the sorting and packaging procedures and ESE students organized a fundraising bake sale event and used the funds raised to donate hygiene products. At the elementary level, the advisory period was used to raise awareness and incite donations. Teachers engaged students through activities/ presentations and discussions.

At AA and during the assembly, grade 4/CM1 students shared their awareness presentation and preschoolers at RB were able to apply their literacy and numeracy skills in sorting, recording and delivering the collected items.
The involvement of the IC community as a whole in this relief campaign initiative is yet another demonstration of the school’s civic commitment to address social adversities. It is indeed a testimony of the IC community coming together to work for the common good.
