Oceans’ Acidification (3ème A - Ras Beirut)

As part of the 3ème A interdisciplinary project “Values and Ethics of a Responsible Citizen”, students worked in chemistry on oceans’ acidification in Lebanon, within their unit related to acids and bases. Students explored the causes and effects of oceans’ acidification in Lebanon. They welcomed Ms. Agness Nohra from the NGO “diaries of the Ocean”, who thoroughly explained to them the main causes underlying this environmental challenge, the chemical reactions leading to water acidification and the potential solutions to fight against this problem. As responsible and ethical citizens, our students decided to take action. They conducted research, collected water samples from different seas in Lebanon and measured their acidity, and led interviews with key stakeholders engaged in preserving Lebanon’s marine resources. Students will now write and publish an article to communicate their learnings and findings to the community, in order to raise awareness about the gravity of this problem and on the importance of responsibly conserving our marine ecosystems.

Towards a Green School in Ain Aar (3ème B / Grade 9 CPP)

This project aspires to transform Ain Aar into a green school. Through the different disciplines, students acquired knowledge and skills that demonstrated that they are environmentally responsible citizens who act towards improving the sustainability of their community. As part of this project, students welcomed two guest speakers who respectively explained to them the concepts and criteria of a Green School and the techniques of an “Energy Audit”. Students built on these interventions and implemented an energy audit, providing a complete electricity consumption and energy efficiency assessment for their classroom. Then, they took room measurements in the different classes in order to identify the needed number of solar panels to install for the Ain Aar campus.

The students are currently developing an action plan for the installation of Solar PV panels in Ain Aar, which they will present to the school’s administration.
