Maintaining Healthy Habitats - CP / Grade 1
As part of their unit of inquiry “Sharing the planet”, grade 1 students learned how living things interact within their habitats to meet their needs. They inquired into the characteristics of different species’ habitats and understood their responsibility in maintaining healthy habitats for animals and plants. Then they decided to take action.
Their first action consisted in creating a habitat. They chose to build bugs’ hotels, a structure that provides shelter and nesting facilities for bugs.
Their second action was to contribute to the preservation of an existing habitat. Students collaborated with the Association for protection of Jabal Moussa and learned about the famous Rock Hyrax, a rare and endangered species that lives in the Jabal Moussa Biosphere Reserve.
Students welcomed members of the association at school and decided to support the NGO in its efforts to preserve the Tabsoun’s habitat in Jabal Moussa. Therefore, they bought the Tabsoun books and donated a sum of around 21.5 million Lebanese pounds to the organization.
