Brother Jay Frasier: IBEW Journeyman Business Agent of the Year

When Brother Jay Frasier had his first drink, he was 15 years old. At the time, he thought he had discovered the world. He thought that alcohol had saved his life, but at the end of his drinking, he realized that it was actually the very thing that was killing him.

Flash forward to today, and Jay is now the newest recipient of the IBEW Hour Power Journeyman Business Agent of the Year Award by the International union, in recognition of his incredible work, advocacy and innovation around addiction recovery efforts.

IBEW Local 103 could not be more proud of Jay’s accomplishments, and we are honored to have him leading the way on recovery efforts in our union, and in the Greater Boston community. He stands as a beacon of hope for many, in our industry and beyond, and has gone above and beyond to support his union Brothers and Sisters who are facing similar challenges in their own lives.

“It doesn’t matter if it’s three in the afternoon or it’s three in the morning. You can call Jay Frasier if you have an issue, and he’s there for you,” said Lou Antonellis, IBEW Local 103 Business Manager/ Financial Secretary. With the support of his loving wife, Jay has been sober for 22 years, and has dedicated himself to helping others who have fallen victim to the same cycles he once found himself in. Jay leads our AA meetings here at the IBEW Local 103 union hall, and as a result, there are many people who credit Jay as integral to their own recovery journeys. Jay also spearheaded IBEW Local 103 and NECA Boston’s volunteer work with Teen Challenge, a recovery center in Brockton. He led a dedicated team each Saturday for more than a year to expand facilities and services for clients. As a result of this amazing charity work, IBEW Local 103 members and their families can get a bed at Teen Challenge recovery center free of charge.

It is because of Jay that many IBEW Local 103 members who once felt lost, now have purpose and a passion. Jay leads by example, generously gives his time and energy to help others, and actively works to reduce the stigma surrounding addiction. Jay has developed a culture of acceptance so that more and more of our Brothers and Sisters seek help when they need it, free of shame and fear.

Congratulations on this well-earned honor, Jay! We love and appreciate you!
