In it you will find a list of several clubs that have yet to pay their dues for the 2014-2015 Key Club year. After finally getting to know all of you better at our June board meeting, I have to say that I am extremely proud to be given an opportunity to work with you. There is so much to learn by working with such dedicated and passionate leaders in the atmosphere of bettering our homes, schools, and communities. Even though it is the summer, let’s continue to be persistent and work hard for Key Club.

Lastly, I would like to say thank you to each and every board member! Congrats to the entire district for your role in getting us up to 191 clubs with a membership of 10,205! This is only the 2nd time in our history that we broke the 10,000 mark and may be the largest If you have membership we have ever had. It could not any questions, have been done without your help. I plan to send out an email to the clubs listed above, concerning their unpaid dues, in the near future. However, I want you to reach out to them first. If you or your clubs have any questions about submitting dues or believe they have already submitted their dues, please don’t hesitate to contact me, I’m only an email or a phone call away. Refer to the contact information listed at the bottom of the page.

Together in Service, Jennifer Zhuo

How do I pay dues? (In 5 easy steps)

1. In September, club advisors should receive an email from the District Administrator regarding the dues process. The email should contain information about Membership Update Center log-ins. Refer to “Instructions for New MUC” (a separate document) for directions if your club has not received an email. 2. Log onto keyclub.org/MUC. This will take you to the Membership Update Center. 3. Use your faculty advisor’s email to access the Membership Update Center 4. Add, Remove, or Edit the information for all members. 5. Once the electronic form is completely filled out and updated, print the invoice out and mail that along with dues money to the Key Club International Office at: Kiwanis International PO Box 6069 Dept 123 Indianapolis, IN 46206-6069

MRFs ! Club MRF for the The summer is due on the 10th of September. Also, urge your clubs to send in the MRFs for March, April, and May! Clubs can still achieve the 100% Reporting Award if they send it in.

Resources There are clubs that have requested resources through the MRF. Make sure you are checking the MRF copies you receive in your email and the Google Reflector Sheet to see if any of your clubs have requested anything. These resources need to be sent out by the last day of each month.

! Hello, District Board! Currently, we have around 47% of the Club MRFs turned in. We can definitely get more MRFs turned in. Since clubs do not have to submit another Monthly Report Form until September 10th, we should use the time we have in the summer to get caught up on MRF submissions. Our goal is to get 55% of the Club MRFs in by the time we meet for August Board. This includes all of the MRFs from the March, April, and May reporting periods. If all of you guys can get a few more clubs to turn in every MRF, then this goal should be easy to reach. Last year, we had a Facebook group page for all of the club officers in the I-I District. This group page allowed the district board to post reminders and any important information to all of the officers in the district. Besides sharing information, this page provided club officers the opportunity to address any issues they had. We will be doing the same thing this year, which means we are going to need your help. Our hope is that this group page will help the district board reach the goals that were set for the year. All of the Lt. Governors that have a Facebook were added on to the group page named "2015-2016 I-I District Key Club Officers." The executive board would appreciate it if you could add as many officers as you can. Our goal is to have 300 members in the Facebook group page, so please add as many officers as you can! Thanks, Peter Ju Contact Information Cell: (815)-708-4741

Editor Update Hello, I-I District Board,

Volume 1, Issue 2

I hope all of you are enjoying your summer! I have had the pleasure of creating this District Mailing for all of you and can’t wait to make more with new design ideas for the future! At the moment, I am currently trying to develop new ways of creating our district publications, as well as creating an online Article Submission Form to be accessed through the website. I hope to have this online form ready by the time of the August Board Meeting. I would like to alert all of you of the upcoming dates regarding article submissions for future District Publications: • July 20th- August Iolian Newsletter Due Date • July 25th- Club Mailing Due Date For the Club Mailing Article Submissions I am asking that all Committee Chairs and all of the Executive Board submit a 1-page article to alert and prepare clubs for the new school year. The Club Mailing is just a way for our District Board to teach and aid Club Officers and to brief them on what is happening in our district. The articles written for this District Mailing written with more detail would suffice for the Club Mailing. LTGs please spread the word to your clubs on submitting to the Iolian because then our newsletter can truly display what we do in our district! Tell your clubs that any photos or articles of Key Club activities from the end of the 2014-2015 school year will be accepted! Finally, LTGs if you have any specific I-I Key Club members that deserve the Member of the Month or specific clubs that could be featured in a Club Spotlight, please write a paragraph about the Member or the Club that includes a picture. I have decided for future publications I would like all of you to send in Word documents instead of PDFs for the purpose of a uniform design for each publication. DCLC 2016 March 11th-13th

Springfield, Illinois

Videos We are in the process of creating our first promotional video. We want to create a commercial that advertises the benefits of attending DCLC. In this commercial, we also want to include the Key Club Pledge, recited by Key Clubbers around the world. I have reached out on Facebook to get videos of Key Clubbers reciting the pledge in their native languages. Currently, I have English, Spanish, and Arabic. Do you speak another language? If so, email me a video of yourself reciting the pledge at dclcchair.iikc@gmail.com

Help Wanted We are beginning to look into different options for logos and videos— if you're great with graphic design and or simple video production, send me an email at dclcchair.iikc@gmail.com.

2016 Theme

The DCLC Planning Committee has decided that the theme for DCLC 2016 will be “Travel the World of Service.” We believe that this will allow us to present Key Club from an international perspective, hold forums on the basis of worldwide service, learn about other cultures, and easily decorate and unify the event.

We want to demonstrate the theme throughout the year! In some districts of Key Club International, the District Convention theme is presented to Key Clubbers many times throughout the year. We want to incorporate it into Fall Leadership Rallies, club mailings, and in everything we do.

Updates: I!I Key Clubs will be able to have their own table at the Service Fair to showcase original projects

Major Emphasis Committee What is the Major Emphasis Committee and What Do We Do? The Major Emphasis Committee works with Key Club International’s partner organizations to aid and serve children by working with organizations such as UNICEF, March of Dimes, Children’s Miracle Network, and the ELIMINATE Project.

Committee Update At June Board, the committee decided to raise our fundraising goal from $55,000 to $60,000 due to the size of the District. At DCLC we are hoping to have another fundraiser similar to the pens that were sold last year, however we thought of possibly selling either keychains, buttons, or pencils and the bracelets we currently have. In addition to this, we are going to be doing another t-shirt fundraiser this year, however it is going to be a District I-I shirt. The t-shirt will have the new mascot, Captain I-I on it, and we hope to have a design ready for August Board! In addition to this, our committee is going to create a powerpoint presentation about Major Emphasis and the service partners Key Club works with. These presentations will be for the LTG’s to use at their FLR’s. We are also going to create more Tri-folds to be put on display at the FLR’s. At August Board, last year’s ELIMINATE t-shirts and bracelets will be available for the FLR chairs to take back and sell at their FLR’s, along with order forms for the District shirts, and the tri-folds. The committee is very excited for the upcoming year, and we cannot wait to see all the amazing things we are going to accomplish as a district board!

K-Family Update In the K– Family, one of the most important relations is the bond between Key Club and Kiwanis. Kiwanis does so much for our clubs and its members! They are very resourceful and love to help out wherever and when ever they can. They are able to provide extra workers for service projects, or they Gary Heath could help give your club members extra money when Garyh4252@yahoo.com they are trying to go to different events like District Michelle Kampert Convention/Leadership Conference or Key Leader. We Ltg3.iikc@gmail.com encourage each club to take some time to thank their sponsoring Kiwanis Club for everything they’ve done and Daniel Glecier see how you can return the favor to help them. Also, Ltg23.iikc@gmail.com plan a service event for this upcoming school year to join Melanie Myszka your Key Club and Kiwanis Club together.

Committee Contact

Another important bond is the bond between Key Club and Circle K. This relationship will get people interested in getting involved in their Circle K if they attend college. A nearby Circle K is also great to get in touch with if you need help with an upcoming project or event! A lot of the CKI members have been through Key Club and they love to help out at all of our service projects and fundraisers. If you are having trouble with your sponsoring Kiwanis Club, or you do not have a sponsoring Kiwanis Club, contact anyone that is on the K-Family committee and we will do everything we can to help!

Upcoming Events: Be on the look out for information regarding a barbeque for Key Clubbers, Circle K members, and Kiwanis members!

Awards Update One of the objects of Key Club International is “to promote the adoption and application of higher standards in scholarship. Working towards an award this year will fulfill this objective as one is recognized for all the effort they have put forth this year. Awards are essential in allowing one to feel appreciated, encouraging maximization of full potential. One award continually given out to Key Clubbers is the Member of the Month award. Lieutenant Governors, please remind clubs to utilize the Member of the Month submission located at the end of the Monthly Report Form to any Key Club member who has shown noteworthy dedication and passion to serve their clubs. Other large awards require yearlong achievement: Individual and Club Awards must be postmarked by January 21st and received by January 26th to Lauren Dvorak. Miscellaneous Awards: Scholarship, Outstanding Kiwanis Advisor, Outstanding Faculty Advisor and Sandy Nininger Awards are due to Mr. Hall by January 11th. The Annual Achievement Report, Single Service and Major Emphasis Awards are due to Mr. Hall by February 19th. Club Awards for viewing at DCLC are the Talent and Oratorical Contests.
