THE LOWDOWN ON LEARNING & DIFFERENCE-MAKING
When we all commit to learning and making a difference in our communities, we’re better able to build life into each other’s dreams, our clients’ visions and our community’s future. Plus, these are 2 out of 3 of our 10-year vision goals for 2030!
• 100% of us will learn a significant new skill every year
• 100% of us will be difference-makers in the communities where we work and live
For a comprehensive look at these benefits at Hutton, read about them in the People & Culture Manual. This guide serves as an overview.
Lifelong Learning Guidelines Summary
• 8 hours learning a new skill or a significant upgrade to an existing skill that benefits your current or future role at Hutton
• Can be divided out into multiple opportunities equaling 8 hours
□ Can be inside of Hutton, through The Foundry, or outside of Hutton
– If outside of Hutton, must be authorized by your manager AND Whitney Proctor
Required work meetings such as Management Meeting and Toolbox Talks are important but are not considered “learning a new skill”
∙ If you’re not sure, ask your manager or Whitney Proctor
∙ To document your learning hours
□ The Foundry is our Learning Management System
– Record all external training using the “transcript” function
– For classes you register for and attend through Hutton, your transcript will be updated for you
□ ALSO enter your training hours using the “TRN” earning code in the Time Entry System
Difference-Making Guidelines Summary
• 8 hours serving the community where you work and/or live
□ Can be part of a Hutton-organized/team service event or can be outside of Hutton – or a combination of both
• Any activity that involves volunteering your time to serve people/groups/organizations outside of your family counts
□ For a list of ideas, check out the People & Culture Manual or ask your manager
• To document your service hours:
□ When service is during work hours, use the “VTO” earning code in the Time Entry System up to 8 hours
– You may request VTO ahead of time at Hutton People Page > Time Off
□ When service is outside of work hours, go to HCC Portal > People & Safety > Difference-Making Hours and submit the form for each volunteer event
A note about difference-making. Many team members have been reluctant to report their difference-making time because it feels like bragging. While that’s understandable, there are some good reasons to report your hours:
• You’ll inspire others to serve and report their hours
• It helps us win great clients who share our values
• You’re helping us reach our biggest, most important goals
