St. Hubert

catholic high school for girls

St. Hubert offers an all-girls environment that is both academically and spiritually vibrant. Our rich heritage is rooted in faith and provides a nurturing, innovative atmosphere in which students thrive. The St. Hubert tradition upholds a standard of excellence while encouraging students to make the most of the best four years of their lives. During that time, their talents and interests emerge through the many opportunities we offer. At St. Hubert, we educate the whole person, and we educate for life.

The All-Girls Advantage High school is a time of learning, discovery, and fun. It is also the time when girls develop their self-concept and inner strength. Single-sex education gives girls a distinct advantage in life. In an all-girls school, female students are the leaders, and their role models are primarily women. They are encouraged to find their voice and be active both in and out of the classroom. Nothing stops them from being independent and successful. In 2005, the U.S. Department of Education reviewed decades’ worth of educational research. A significant majority of the studies found that, in single-sex education, girls: • score higher on achievement tests, • choose more challenging courses, • have higher educational and career aspirations, • participate more in athletics, • are much more likely to pursue a career in the fields of math, science, or computers. A 2009 British study even revealed that girls who struggle academically when they begin high school improve considerably more in a single-sex environment. Without a doubt, an all-girls school like St. Hubert allows students to become confident, wellrounded young women who reach their full potential.

Since opening our doors in 1941, St. Hubert has become the largest Catholic girls’ high school in Philadelphia. Our school draws students from every section of Philadelphia, the surrounding counties, and even southern New Jersey because we offer an unparalleled educational experience and a warm, welcoming environment. We challenge the intellect of our students and encourage them to learn about themselves and the world around them. Our mission is to help young women become responsible leaders who possess knowledge and skills beyond textbooks. We promote individuality and want each girl to achieve and succeed in her own way. Our graduates leave St. Hubert with a passion for learning and ready to make their mark on the world.

The St. Hubert Sisterhood Times have changed drastically since St. Hubert opened 73 years ago, but the spirit of our school has only grown stronger. It is common to meet a student whose mother, sister, cousin, aunt, or grandmother also attended St. Hubert. Each generation of Bambies provides the opportunity to begin a new St. Hubert tradition. Both current students and alumnae share in the rich history that fills our halls, and they carry it with them throughout their lives.

Spiritual Life Faith is a central part of the St. Hubert experience, and it is integrated into everyday life at school. Though our teaching is rooted in Roman Catholic tradition, we respect all faiths. Each girl learns a fundamental love and respect for God, herself, and the world. Because our students are becoming responsible citizens, we also emphasize personal accountability, sound moral principles, and the dignity of every person. At St. Hubert, each student forms a deep, personal relationship with God that will strengthen her in every aspect of her life as a Christian woman.

Our curriculum includes over thirty-five honors-level college preparatory courses and eight Advanced Placement options. We also provide learning enrichment programs, such as faculty mentoring, math clinics, study skills, and peer tutoring. Over 80% of our faculty holds a master’s degree in their chosen field, and with a teacher-to-student ratio of 20:1, our students receive personal attention and the quality instruction they deserve. With the foundation of well-rounded liberal arts requirements, our student tailored electives, and readily available guidance and support, St. Hubert offers a superior educational experience.

The Cutting-Edge Classroom Because technology is an enormous part of everyday life, St. Hubert is committed to its incorporation in education. In addition to providing each of our students with an iPad, we offer a multi-media technology center; a writing computer lab; technologically-enhanced physics, chemistry, and biology labs; and a graphic design lab in our art department. Our entire campus is equipped with wireless internet access, and smartboards with Apple TV, which brings technology into every classroom. Our graduates are well-prepared to enter today’s competitive, innovative world.

Greater Opportunities for College Credit Advanced Placement: As early as sophomore year, students can take college-level Advanced Placement classes, which both fulfill their St. Hubert course requirements and give them the opportunity to qualify for higher education credits via a cumulative exam at the end of the year. Diocesan Scholars: The prestigious Diocesan Scholars program honors students who excel academically and who would benefit from beginning college work during their senior year. Each scholar will be permitted to take, free of charge, two college courses each semester on the campus of a nearby college or university, completing the remainder of their roster at St. Hubert. Video Conferencing: St. Hubert has opened a state-of-the-art Video Conferencing Center in conjunction with Holy Family University. Through the use of a high-speed Internet connection, selected juniors and seniors can attend classes taught by Holy Family faculty in real time. Students experience live audio and video, and live feedback. The students receive credit from St. Hubert and also full college credits from Holy Family University. Dual Enrollment Program: Our state-funded Dual Enrollment Program allows students to take college courses after school or on Saturdays on the campus of participating local colleges or universities. Students earn credit toward their St. Hubert requirements and higher education credits to the college or university.

With its four-year art and music programs and numerous arts-centric extracurriculars, St. Hubert ensures that all students have the opportunity to enrich their lives through creative pursuits. Trained professionals guide the students’ instruction, nurturing a love and appreciation for the many disciplines that comprise the fine arts.

Emphasis on the Arts Academic Offerings From the moment students begin their high school career, or at any point during their four years, they can choose fine arts or instrumental music electives. Music has long been one of our most popular options, and we train students of all experience levels in a every type of instrument. Our art department boasts a graphic design lab, and promising seniors can even take Advanced Placement Art for college credit.

Arts After School The arts truly come alive at St. Hubert after the final bell has rung. Multiple after-school activities provide avenues for students to pursue their love of the arts. Girls can join our full symphonic orchestra, which performs at many school functions throughout the year. As of 2009, St. Hubert also became the first Diocesan high school to boast a full hand bell choir. St. Hubert is known for its talented musicians because each year, St. Hubert has the greatest representation in the All-Catholic orchestra. Musicallyinclined Bambies can also join chorus or the dance club. Aspiring writers are essential to our many publications, including our literary/art magazine, yearbook, and newspaper, and they can even pen scripts for the video yearbook and TV station. Actresses can hone their craft in the drama club, and they are encouraged to try out for the Fall Musical. This annual production brings together Bambies from all areas of the arts, creating a memorable performance for their fellow students, alumnae, family, friends, and the surrounding community. In the spring, these clubs come together once again for the Spring Musicale and Fine Arts Festival, showcasing the creative talents of our students at one of the largest exhibits in the area. The annual studentrun Talent Show is also sure to impress, with acts ranging from comedy to Irish dance.

AnExtracurricular for Everyone After-school activities are a vital part of the high school experience. They’re where students make new friends, explore a passion, broaden their interests, and become leaders. St. Hubert offers over 30 extracurriculars – great reasons to stay at school after the final bell rings! Activity Fairs held at the beginning of each semester allow our students to choose which activities suit them best. Our vast list of choices includes those focused on art, activism, spirituality, dance, foreign cultures, broadcasting, music, community service, creative writing, drama, journalism, and more. We also encourage girls to create their own activity – all they need is a faculty or staff moderator and other students with common interests. Previous Bambies have founded some of our most popular clubs. Without a doubt, joining an activity is one of the best ways for students to discover who they are and find their unique place in the St. Hubert family!
