Newsletter for the Alumnae & Friends of St. Hubert Catholic High School for Girls

WINTER 2014

New Year, New Blessings Dear <FirstName>,

The last few months of 2013 were filled with many wonderful events here at St. Hubert. We installed our National Honor Society and held a “Passionately Pink for the Cure” fundraiser in October. In November, we commemorated the Feast of St. Hubert, inducted six amazing women to our Hall of Fame (see page 3), welcomed more than 180 8th Graders for Visitation Day and celebrated Susie Hubert Day. We launched our 2013-14 Annual Appeal (see page 2) and hosted the Annual Communion Breakfast (see page 4) in December. Needless to say, the final days of 2013 were hectic. But, for this, we are extremely thankful as the harried pace is an obvious sign that our school is thriving. While our work towards sustainability and growth continues, each successful event proves that the St. Hubert community is vibrant and strong. Our alumnae and friends continue to display their unwavering passion and support for our beloved school. As we approach the 2nd Anniversary of our school being saved from closure, we will reflect on all that we have accomplished since January 2012. Enrollment has increased and fundraising results are solid. Our academic programs have expanded and our faculty and administration are committed and tireless. As 2013 comes to a close, we look forward to a blessed and prosperous 2014. I know that St. Hubert will continue to grow and flourish with the help and support of our ardent alumnae and friends. With proud and eager loyalty,

HOST A CHILD – CHANGE A LIFE

We have welcomed several international students into our school to offer them the opportunity of a Catholic education in an all-girls setting. We are currently seeking families who might have an interest in hosting these students for the school year. Students will be arriving for the second semester and we are in need of accommodations for them. We are looking for host families who will embrace an international student and welcome her into their home. The ideal host family is interested in international sharing, has a passion for education and strong communication and organizational skills.  A monthly stipend is available.

For more information, contact our international student management consultants via email at gwenc@twinnpalms.com or barryf@threew.us or call 863-370-5205.

2014  KAIROS RETREAT Kairos, which means "time set apart" in Greek, is a spiritual retreat for our Juniors and Seniors. A 4-day retreat is structured around the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola, Kairos is a beautiful program which has been a blessing for many St. Hubert students as well as countless other young people throughout the country. The Kairos experience is rooted in the sacramental life of the Church and is intended to bring the retreatants to a deeper understanding of the relationships they have with God and other loved ones in life and to help give them the tools to strengthen those relationships. Through both small group and large group sessions, the retreatants come to a better understanding of God, themselves, and others. Many students claim that a Kairos Retreat chnag their lives as it is a powerful and pivotal experience for young people.   The first Kairos Retreat of the new year will be held in February at the St. Francis Retreat House. Dozens of our students have already signed up to attend, however many of them will be unable to attend because of the cost as the retreat fee of $210 per student is out of each for many families. If you would like to make a donation that would allow a student-in-need to attend the Kairos Retreat, please contact Father Ronald Check at fathercheck@huberts.org or 215-624-6840 x247.

Sponsor-a-Scholar Program

We are extremely excited about the potential of the Class of 2018. Over 200 8th grade students took our Scholarship Exam in the Fall and we were thrilled to award 40 academic scholarships in December. These 40 Scholars are exceptionally bright and deserving young women and we have committed over $245,000 in scholarships funds (ranging from $500 – $5,000 per student per year) to them for the four years they will spend with us at St. Hubert. Investing in these gifted students is an important strategy for the future of our school as we work to raise our profile and expand our academic offerings. If you would like to assist us with the funding of our Scholarships, you can do so by participating in the the Sponsor-a-Scholar (SAS) Program. The SAS Program allows you to serve as a single source of funding for an individual student. As a Scholar Sponsor, you’ll be assigned a Scholar and given information about her background. We’ll keep you updated throughout the year on her academic progress and extra-curricular activities and, if you like, we’ll even arrange for a visit with your Scholar here at school.
