Ms. Daniels

6th Grade Social Studies
My name is Raven Daniels and I have been a teacher at The Nest for 6 years. When I am not molding young minds, I am at home playing videos games, doing makeup, and hanging out with family and friends. One of the things that I have learned as a teacher is to be consistent with my expectations. My students know that I am the same from day 1 until day 181. I laugh with them, I talk to them, and I try to find common interests. We also take selfies that I add to my board of students. Building relationships and being consistent is the best advice I could offer any teacher. When you have relationships and obtainable expectations, students will always rise to the occasion.

Ms. Daniels helps students understand their work. She makes learning fun!”Fatimah Wilson

2 Ways to Help Your Child Succeed in Middle School

Source: Nemours Kids Health
Medically Reviewed by: Larissa Hirsch, MD
1. Send Your Child to School Ready to Learn
A nutritious breakfast fuels up kids and gets them ready for the day. Kids who eat breakfast have more energy and do better in school. They're also less likely to miss school, and make fewer trips to the school nurse with stomach complaints related to hunger. Breakfast is provided in our school cafeteria as well.
Kids also need enough sleep to be alert and ready to learn all day. Most school-age kids need 9–12 hours of sleep a night. Bedtime problems can come up at this age for a variety of reasons. Homework, sports, afterschool activities, games and TV, and hectic family schedules can lead to kids not getting enough sleep. Lack of sleep can cause irritable or hyperactive behavior and might make it hard for kids to pay attention in class. It's important to have a consistent bedtime routine, especially on school nights. Leave enough time before lights-out for your child to unwind, and limit media use like TV, video games, and Internet access.
2. Teach Organization Skills
No one is born with great organizational skills — they have to be learned and practiced. Being organized is a key to success in middle school, as it's the first time that most students will have multiple teachers and classrooms, or do extracurricular or after-school activities. Students can benefit from parents helping with organizing assignments and time management.
Class information and assignments should be organized by subject in binders, notebooks, or folders. Teach your child how to use a calendar or personal planner to stay organized and schedule study times. Calendars or planners also should include your child's non-academic commitments to help with time management.
