Saahir Johnson Teachers say: Saahir is a wonderful student to have in class. He does well working independently and has a strong work ethic. He participates well and helps others when needed. Since coming to Hubert, he has grown academically, and it shows in the quality of work that he submits.

This is my 4th year teaching here at Hubert Middle School. As most of you know, I love sports and being active. My goal each day is to make math fun and engaging. I am most known for the Scotty Shop and rewarding students for academic excellence. I served 4 years in the Marine Corps prior to becoming a teacher. Most would describe me as goofy, silly, annoying, tough, strict but fair teacher. Definitely the best singer!!!

7th Grade Teacher of the Month Mr. Terry Ellis

7th Grade Science

I retired from teaching in Georgia, South Carolina, and the US Navy Reserves after a fulfilling career of over 35 years. I also dedicate my time to teaching Adult Sunday school. Outside of teaching, I find solace in gardening in my backyard throughout the year.

The gentle chirping of birds at the start of each day brings me immense joy. If I were to impart advice to others, it would be to create both short-term and long-term goals, and then work towards achieving them with determination and dedication.

Mr. Ellis is one of the kindest teachers I know. He’s very helpful and thoughtful when it comes to students. - Saa’Riyah Cooks

Stephany Betancourt What teachers say: Stephany is a wonderful student in every way.

Although she is shy and quiet, her presence does not go unnoticed by her teachers. She comes to class prepared, participates in the learning, and often performs at the top of her class.

Stephany is also a terrific athlete. She represented Hubert in Cross Country this past season and plans to participate in soccer and track this spring.

8th Grade Teacher of the Month

Mr. Robinson 8th Grade Georgia Studies

My name is Ricky Robinson III and I have been teaching at Hubert for 2 years. These two years have been nothing short of rewarding as I have been able to work alongside some great students.

Before teaching, I was in the United States Marine Corps serving as a combat photographer, martial arts instructor, and a recruiter. I have been all over the U.S. while serving and to several different countries as well. When I am not working with our students, I am spending time with my family or hiking. I have hiked over 400 miles of the Appalachian Trail with my longest single trip being 43 days. The advice I would give to others is learn to let things go. We may not be able to control what others do, but we can control how we choose to let their actions affect us.

Mr. Robinson is a great teacher. He is very good at explaining instructions about the work. I like that he rewards you when you deserve it. -Fe'onjalai Morrell 17

Connections Teacher of the Month

Mr. Singleton Engineering

Hello everyone! I was born and raised in Savannah, Georgia and actually attended Hubert grades 3-5. After graduating from Johnson High School, I went into the US Air Force. I retired as a Major and have been teaching since 2008. I love traveling, fishing, playing golf, and Call of Duty. I have traveled all over the world and lived in six different countries. I currently speak Spanish, Hangul (Korea), and Tagalog (Philippines). My advice to share is to always be kind to others (you get it back exponentially), pursue your goals/dreams (no one will do it for you), and be willing to try new things (you never know what you’re missing)!

I was born in Savannah, GA and graduated from Savannah High School in 1996. I attended SSU where I received a Bachelor of Business Administration and participated in their Study Abroad in Beijing China.

In 2009, I have worked for the Savannah Chatham County Public School System since 2006. I enjoy attending jazz, dance, and theater performances. I also enjoy traveling and I would like to travel to Africa one day. Most importantly, I enjoy reading and studying biblical and historical literature.

The advice I would give to others is never give up on what you are trying to accomplish. There will be challenges or obstacles that will try to discourage you from achieving your goals. With determination and motivation, you can overcome them.

Hello, all. I am a new teacher to Hubert and to SCCPSS. My background is in mental health and commercial driving. I have always held a passion for children, especially those with challenging backgrounds. My goal is to encourage and empower the students of today to make a brighter tomorrow. I look forward to this exciting new journey with each of you.

Meet Ms. Mackie My name is Ms. Mackie. I am a first-year teacher here at Hubert, teaching 8th grade science. I am originally from Columbus, GA. I graduated from the University of Georgia in 2020, GO DAWGS! I am new to Savannah, having just moved here in July from Atlanta. I am so excited to start my teaching journey here at Hubert and can't wait to have an awesome year here at the Nest!

COMMUNITY PARTNER SPOTLIGHT Mr. J.T. Musgrove, Mentor Mr. Musgrove is originally from Marrietta, GA, but moved to Savannah from Lexington, Kentucky.

He is an Associate Pastor at St. James AME Church where he has been working with youth for over 37 years.

He says that he has a passion for giving back to young people because so many people gave back to him as a child. Mr. Musgrove comes to us with a wealth of knowledge as a mentor.

He is a member of Phi Beta Sigma, Fraternity, Inc., an award winning athlete, and educator.

What are the “walk-in” times for Same Day Access at Gateway?

What is Same Day Access?

A way to visit with a counselor or doctor without a waiting list—whether you are insured or uninsured.

For children and adolescents seeking mental health or substance abuse treatment and services.

How does Same Day Access work?

Arrive at 7395 Hodgson Memorial Drive by the starting time and your child or adolescent will be seen on a first-comefirst serve basis for an assessment and treatment plan. Priority is given to hospital discharges.

You will get to talk with a licensed clinician or care manager and a nurse practitioner or physician.

What items do I need for registration? Photo ID of the parent or guardian Child’s Social Security card or ID Insurance card Proof of Income List of current medications if applicable A legal guardian must be present for anyone under age 18.

Medicaid CMO’s Uninsured (proof of income required) Commercial insurance—Gateway will collect the full payment at the time of service and will provide you with the correct form (HCFA-1500) to file with your insurance company for them to reimburse you directly.

Notes:

Previous Medicaid or Medicaid CMO If a child has had prior Medicaid or a Medicaid CMO and it is inactive for whichever reason the guardian is responsible for full payment up front.

Filing for Medicaid Gateway offers case management services that can assist families in applying for GA Medicaid or Peach care.
