MBA Graduation 2011

Professor Simon Evenett welcomed the guests and introduced the other platform party of the ceremony by saying that he himself doesn't remember any of the many graduation speeches he heard at the graduations he attended. Hopefully, this doesn't hold true for the St.Gallen MBA class of 2011 with the many different encouraging, inspiring, funny, but also serious speeches delivered at their MBA graduation. The dean of the executive school, Professor Winfired Ruigrok, delivered a speech on life-long learning and the life-long connection to the University of St.Gallen; the keynote speaker, Professor Thomas Bieger (Rector of the University of St.Gallen), made use of three little stories to metaphorically explain intrinsic and extrinsic motivation.

On August 27, the full-time and part-time students graduated from the St.Gallen MBA programme in the Pfalzkeller in St.Gallen. The graduation was attended by nearly 300 participants including 74 students, friends and relatives, professors and MBA staff.

Two students, Stephan van Sint Fiet (parttime MBA) and Gareth Lee (full-time MBA) described the MBA journey from the students' perspectives with anecdotal stories, power point images and strong as well as very thankful words. As the full time student Gareth Lee described in his speech: "Seen from a wider perspective, we cannot sum up, we cannot chronicle. The extraordinary jour-

Alessandro Bartoli, full-time MBA student of the class of 2011, summarises his thoughts on the overall MBA experience in his online blog saying that "it has been a quite dense time since then. The Full Time MBA has been in fact more than that. It has been a "rich time". In all senses. It has been a great journey. Our MBA journey."

ler, Stefan Beglinger and Martina Mörtner from the part-time class. At the end of the official ceremony part, Dr. Martin Huser, Vice President HSG Alumni, delivered a speech to welcome the newly graduates to the HSG Alumni network.

MBA Awards were handed out to the best lecturers. Professor Pascal Gantenbein received an award for his core course "Finance 3", Professor Thomas Gutzwiller for his elective course "Corporate Transformation", Professor Matthias Brauer for the best PLD Module "Corporate Strategy" and, finally, Jordi Montserrat, who was honored for his part-time MBA specialist course "Entrepreneurhip". Subsequently, the "Dean's List Certificates" were given to the best 10% of the two classes to dignify outstanding achievements. The awards were received by Andreas Delis, Magdalena Josefine Schneider, Marina Chernoglazova and David Lee from the full-time class as well as Manuel Häus-

An apéro was held at the Pfalzkeller. To celebrate the graduation together, the MBA office had organized a get-together with champagne in the meeting point as well as VIP entrance to the Elphant Club, which 100 students and staff members joined.
