Predsjednik HOO-a Zlatko Mateša, ujedno član Izvršnog odbora Europskih olimpijskih odbora i koordinator za Europske igre 2019. godine, sudjelovalo je u svečanom potpisivanju ugovora o domaćinstvu ovog kontinentalnog višešportskog natjecanja novijeg datuma. Ugovor je potpisan 1. rujna 2017. u sjedištu Bjeloruskog olimpijskog odbora u Minsku, a u nazočnosti vršitelja dužnosti predsjednika Janeza Kocijančića i drugih članova europske športske vlade. Predsjednik Mateša, jedan od vodećih ljudi u projektu Europskih igara, izrazio je zadovoljstvo što su već prve Igre opravdale očekivanja, kako u pogledu športskih rezultata, tako i u pogledu televizijskog interesa. "Europske igre u Minsku donijet će i još neke novosti koje će biti iskorak u športskoj inovativnosti koja plijeni pažnju osobito mladih ljudi", naglasio je Mateša i najavio sudjelovanje hrvatske športske delegacije. Nastup na prvih Igrama u Bakuu 2015., hrvatski su športaši završili sa 11 medalja.

Sanda Čorak, predsjednica Hrvatskog judo saveza, i sama nekad vrhunska judašica, primila je na prigodnoj svečanosti Međunarodne judo federacije 28. kolovoza 2017. u Budimpešti (gdje se održavalo Svjetsko prvenstvo), posebno priznanje "Najbolji razvoj nacionalnog saveza". To je još jedno međunarodno priznanje HJS-u koji je uvođenjem juda u 160 osnovnih škola u Hrvatskoj prema projektu "Judo u škole" 2015. godine dobio Nagradu MOO-a "Sport i inovacije".

Croatian basketball players who easily met the subsequent qualifications entered the finals of the largest sports event - a duel with the legendary unparalleled team of the best NBA professional players, the so-called "Dream Team I" - and won a silver medal. Their team included two NBA Leagued players Dražen Petrović and Stojko Vranković, two international players from the Italian clubs Toni Kukoč and Dino Rađa, ranked among the top Croatian and international basketball names and led by one of the most famous basketball players Dražen Petrović, who tragically died in June 1993. A minute’s silence was observed as a tribute to Dražen Petrović - after whom the Croatian Olympic Committee named two of its biggest awards presented to young talented athletes - bearer of three Olympic medals, four times best European Basketball Player, player of the strongest league in the world - the NBA League, one of the greatest Croatian basketball players’ role model in whose honor a monument was placed in 1995 in Lausanne in the Park of the Olympic Museum and who was introduced in FIBA's Hall of Fame in Alcobendas (Madrid) in 2007. In 2006, Croatia opened its Museum-Memorial Center, one of the most visited museums in Zagreb on the square named after him. At the ceremony, the present also recalled the late Matija Ljubek, one of the most successful Croatian Olympians, holder of four Olympic medals, the World's and European Champion with more than 300 medals, leader of the Croatian Olympic Kayaking Team at Barcelona Olympics and Andrija Mijačika, the second Secretary General of the Croatian Olympic Committee and Dražen Mađarević, Secretary of the Croatian Taekwondo Federation, coaches in the Croatian Olympic Taekwondo Team at Barcelona Olympics 1992. The solemn celebration of the 25th anniversary was held in the presence of a number of former top athletes, sports staff members and officials including members of the Council and Croatian Olympic Committee’s Secretary General Josip Čop with assistants, Secretary of State for Sports and holder of six Olympic medals Janica Kostelić and other members of the Croatian Olympic family. Ratko Rudić nominated for the Most Successful Coach in the IOC's selection

The Croatian Olympic Committee nominated Ratko Rudić, the most trophy-winning water polo coach of all time, in September this year for the Most Successful Coach in the selection of the International Olympic Committee. This famous water polo player won in his active and coaching career as many as 67 medals, 19 of them with a club and 48 representative medals, including 19 gold. At major senior competitions, such as European and World Championships and Olympic Games, he won 21 medals, including 10 gold. At the London Olympics 2012, the Croatian water polo team won - under his leadership - all the eight games and the first Croatian Olympic gold medal in water polo. As a young water polo player, he was a substitute at the Mexico Olympics 1968, where his club has won a gold medal. At the Moscow Olympics 1980 he won a silver medal and he also participated at the Munich Olympics 1972. Toni Kukoč in FIBA’s Hall of Fame Olympian Toni Kukoč, the famous Croatian basketball player made up to FIBA Hall of Fame’s 2017 Class of Inductees, along with the great American center player Shaquille O'Neal and the original 
