Janica je jedina športašica sa četiri odličja (tri zlata, jedno srebro) na jednim igrama (Salt Lake City 2002.) a nastupila je i na Igrama u Naganu 1998. i Torinu 2006 (jedno zlato, jedno srebro). Pet je puta bila svjetska prvakinja u različitim skijaškim disciplinama, treća je skijašica u povijesti koja je pobjeđivala u utrkama u Svjetskom kupu u svih pet skijaških disciplina, te druga skijašica koja je pobijedila u svih pet disciplina u jednoj sezoni. Tri je puta osvajala naslov ukupne pobjednice u Svjetskom kupu, a ima i sedam malih Kristalnih globusa, tri slalomska i četiri u kombinaciji. Janica Kostelić osam puta je izabrana i za najbolju hrvatsku športašicu godine. U izboru Francuske akademije za šport 2005. proglašena je najboljom svjetskom športašicom. Godine 2009. dobitnica je međunarodne fair play nagrade - Fair play Mecenate. Na mjesto državne tajnice dolazi s mjesta pomoćnice za šport u donedavnom Ministarstvu znanosti, obrazovanja i športa.

S jednim glasom protiv Skupština HOO-a je 6. listopada na izbornoj sjednici izabrala dr. sc. Zlatka Matešu za predsjednika HOO-a u mandatnom razdoblju 2016.2020. godine. Mateši je ovo peti mandat na čelu vrhovne športske institucije, a kandidaturu su podržala 33 nacionalna športska saveza olimpijskih i 30 neolimpijskih športova te 20 županijskih športskih zajednica. Dužnost predsjednika HOO-a Mateša je prvi put preuzeo na izvanrednoj izbornoj skupštini HOO-a 2002. Član je izvršnog odbora Europskih olimpijskih odbora (EOC), Među-

Prvu nagradu osvojio je Matija Zanoškar, drugi je Manuel Angelini, a treće mjesto dijele Ingrid Jerković i Franja Jaki. Nagradu za najboljeg mladog autora osvojio je Edi Šikić, a pet autora je pohvaljeno za izvrsnost - Ivana Šmit, Dragan Blažić, Sandro Donda, Nermin Stambolija i Enna Peroš.

Awarded scholarships for Winter Olympic Games Pyeongchang International Olympic Committee’s Olympic Solidarity has awarded ten scholarships to Croatian athletes, candidates for participation at the XXIII Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang in 2018. From November 1, 2016, the users of International Olympic Committee’s scholarships are: Filip Zubčić, Leon Popović, Istok Rodeš and Elias Kolega (Alpine Skiing), Vedrana Malec and Edi Dadić (Cross Country), Krešimir Crnković (Biathlon), Darija Obratov (Luge), Drazen Silić (Bobsleigh) and Nicholas Garrett Vrdoljak (Figure Skating). This is the third generation of Croatian winter sports athletes – users of the Olympic Solidarity scholarships since its formation in 2008.

Janica Kostelić appointed Head of the Central State Office for Sports After full 25 years (since the independence of the Republic of Croatia), Croatian sports is not “assigned” to one of the relevant ministries of the Croatian Government anymore. According to the Law on Organization and Scope of Ministries and other Central State Administration Bodies, in November this year it has received, for the first time, its own office – the Central Office for Sports. The Office will perform administrative and experts tasks in the field of development and promotion of sports and its role in the society, funding of sports programs and sports development programs, expert activities, the status of top athletes, national sports development program, administrative and inspectional supervision of sports activities; preparation and implementation of EU projects and many other strategically important tasks. Our most successful Olympian Janica Kostelić, who has performed at three Winter Olympic Games and who is also the most successful Alpine skier in the history of Winter Olympics with four gold and two silver medals, was appointed the first Secretary of State for Sports. Janica is the only athlete with four medals (three gold, one silver) at single Olympic Games (Salt Lake City 2002) and she has also appeared at the Olympics in Nagano in 1998 and in Turin in 2006 (one gold, one silver). She was World Champion in different ski disciplines five times, the third female skier in the history who has won the World Cup races in all the five skiing disciplines, as well as the second female skier – winner in all the five disciplines in a single season. Three times she has won the title of overall winner at the World Cup, and she has seven small Crystal Globes, three in Slalom and four in Combined. Janica Kostelić was selected eight times the Best Croatian Female Athlete of the Year. In the choice of the French Academy of Sports, in 2005 she was named the World’s Best Female Athlete. In 2009, she was presented the International Fair Play Award – Fair Play Mecenate. Due to the appointment to the new position of Secretary of State for Sports, Janica was dismissed from her previous position of Assistant Minister of Science, Education and Sports.

A memorial plaque to Iztok Puc The leading figure of the Croatian and world handball, triple Olympic athlete and holder of two Olympic gold medals (Olympic Games Seoul 1988 and Atlanta 1996) Iztok Puc, got his memorial plaque unveiled on November 22 in Zagreb, in front of the sports hall “Kutija šibica". This handball player, who died in 2011 after a long illness (46 years old), played for three teams – he was a member of the team that won a gold medal for Yugoslavia at the Olympic Games in Seoul, then at the Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996 he has won the second Olympic gold as member of the Croatian Olympic Team, while in Slovenia, where he was born, he has won à
