If you answer any of these questions positively, admit that the desire has enough strength to lead you into great harm and most likely will. The last step to evaluate the nature of our desires is to examine the end results or pending consequences. Paul refused to eat meat or drink wine if by doing those things he would harm another believer [1 Corinthians 8:13; Romans 14:21]. But he also confronted Peter in front of everyone when Peter acted the hypocrite in Galatians 2:11f. He was sensitive to hurting any brother, but at the same time he was also quick to confront anyone, even if this would mean embarrassing the person in front of all the church. The criteria Paul used to guide his behavior involved evaluating whether the results would be godly or not. If your desire is leading you to

What spiritual or biblical justification do I have for bringing this consequence into their lives? What will be the consequences in my own life, especially spiritually? When all three components are honestly scrutinized, you will have a clear idea of whether your craving is good or evil. Use the test. Train yourself to distinguish

Since every believer is part of a cultural group, many of the practices of that group become the sinful world of the believer. The ungodly components of the lifestyle of the group relentlessly presses in upon believers to conform them to its mold. As citizens of the kingdom of God, believers are to recognize the intrinsic evil of many dimensions of their own culture and resist their subtle entrapments. While evil pervades all aspects of human life due to the Fall, human cultures are not totally evil. All men after all are created in God’s image (James 3:9), and for this reason cultures devise and enforce moral laws and values which promote life, instead of death. We can also see that God anticipated cultural diversity on earth, since he instructed men to spread and fill the earth. However, from a biblical perspective, we can identify three broad types of cultural components: those compatible with the Christian faith, those incompatible, and those neutral. Usually a people’s style of dress, housing, food, and like cultural components are neutral. The gospel has nothing or little to say about them. People can become Christians and

continue with those cultural components unchanged. Many cultural practices reflect values of the gospel, such as love for family, marital fidelity, respect for, love of and care of the aged and disabled, and acceptance of a simple lifestyle. These are fertile soil for the gospel. Other cultural components are, however, not compatible with the gospel. They become a stumbling block and the Christian message challenges them, upsetting the cultural balance. Cultural world views often clash with Bible as cultural religion or its functional substitute provides their content. Christianity is exclusive and is incompatible with any religion other than itself. It is authoritative and dogmatic; it will not compromise with evil or moral, social, or religious error. It lays down standards for both belief and conduct. Where these conflict with cultural components, the Bible demands men to change in order to become biblically Christian. The gospel always challenges the world within the culture and the cultural world resists the gospel. But changes need to be biblically grounded and well thought out since every major cultural component performs a function within the culture and their elimination produces a void that must be filled with a functional substitute. Syncretism is never accepted. It is one of the major barriers to world evangelism facing the church today. In many parts of the world today, people become Christian without breaking with their preChristian fear of and obedience to spirits or idols. The early church was uncompromising in its declaration that, “there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men, by which we must be saved” [Acts 4:12]. This must be accepted and declared by the people receiving the gospel or the result will be some form of Christo-paganism. The World American Style
America offers a good example of the features of the world as they appear in Western cultures today. The attitude is often “Do whatever is right for you. Be faithful to whatever is true for you.” Most believe in no moral absolutes. This affects the American culture in various ways. First, it trivializes human experience by treating some shameful and selfish human acts as shameless and entertaining. Second, it distracts us from facing the most profound issues of life, such as the meaning of true

goodness and the ultimate significance and purpose in life. Third, it attacks virtues such as commitment, responsibility, and self-control, which are essential to the growth of healthy families and societies. Much of our Media contents promotes this sort of cultural relativism. Truth is not absolute, thus humans have no objective standard by which to evaluate their beliefs, values, and behavior. Right and wrong are determined in each situation by each individual or each group, not by divine revelation. Humans thus exist without meaning or purpose, except for whatever they can invent for themselves. Cultural relativism and nihilism encourage cultural pluralism. This is the condition in which no one world view is held to be in any way superior to another. While it is true that no culture should exercise any tyranny over others, cultural pluralism seeks to deny men the opportunity to be seriously confronted by the Christ event. Naturalism enshrines nature with its own mystique and breeds its own form of worship, which partially explains the spread of pantheism and the proliferation of bizarre New Age cults. Naturalism makes relativism total: it is not possible to declare that one creature has more intrinsic value than any other. Humans who evolved from nothing are nothing. Since they have no destiny, they can live as they choose. Thus there is no objective basis for human dignity;

no logical reason to believe that we are intrinsically superior to any other living thing. As Ingrid Newkirk, president of PETA puts it, “a rat is a pig, is a dog, is a boy.” The prevailing American world view is utopian and pragmatic. It affirms that there is no significant presence of God in our world, that we are masters of our own fate, that we are basically good, and that, with time and increasing knowledge, we will only get better. Charles Colson states that pragmatism is the only philosophical system made in America. The fundamental question is, “Does it work?” instead of “Is it right?”. The following are some of the consequences: Abortion on demand: If it is not practical to have the baby, kill it. No-fault divorce: if your marriage is not working, end it. Flight from ethics in business: If your profits are not what you wish, cheat! Lie! Disregard for the law: Break the law, but don’t get caught. The adage from the 1960’s, “if it feels good, do it” has been replaced by “if it works, do it.” This is pragmatism at its worst. God loves all men and women, in the world, sinful as they are. He has provided full pardon for the sins of the world in the Cross of His Son [2 Corinthians 5:18-21]. However, God hates the world’s rebellious systems and people involved in them hate Him as well. The world’s philosophies of life blind men to God’s love and reinforce their sinful separateness from him. The systems of the world are nothing but the collective, social expression of the desires of our flesh, inflamed by Satan. In 1 John 2:15-17 we are told, “Do not love the world, nor the things in the world…” Much in the world systems is religious, cultured, refined, and intellectual, but it is anti-God, so it is understandable why John continues with the shattering affirmation “If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in Him.” Love here conveys a “fondness or affection for an object because of its value to the lover.” Some of the Christians of John’s day had a fondness for the world that affected their relationship with God. John affirms that if one continues to regard the things in the world as

precious, it reveals that God is really not precious to that person. We should not love the world for two reasons. First, love for the Father and love for the world are mutually exclusive. Second, “the world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God abides forever” [1 John 2:17]. One’s beliefs determine one’s values. Four basic affirmations underlie the Christian’s belief system which in turn determines both the Christian’s values and the conduct that results from those values: First, God is the ultimate and absolute reality. Second, Because of God’s has revealed himself, we have a perfect and unchangeable foundation upon which to build our beliefs, values and conduct. It is the real power behind the systems of the world. While the world often outwardly pay lip service to high ethical standards, it is totally incapable to live by them. They are violated everywhere, by almost everyone, all the time.

Armed with our faith, Christian ought to act differently. We believe that our old self has been put to death with Christ. Now, we are a new creation in Him and can say, “no” to the lusts of the flesh. We commit to crucify our flesh with its passions and lusts.

Unfortunately, at present, the world influences the Church more than the Church influences the world. To win our battles against Satan we need to have victory over our lusts and over our world. Now, that victory comes through the cross of Christ. We win over the flesh by putting its deeds to death and by making no provision for its wrong desires. We win over the world by choosing not to love it. And we win over the devil by submitting ourselves fully unto the Lord and by resisting him [James 4:7]. We do not have to kill Satan. We just have to resist him. We do not have to chastise our buddies, just bring them under submission to the Lord. We do not need to destroy the world nor resist it; we simply have to detach ourselves from it and ignore it. There is good guilt, the kind that drives a repentant person to his knees. The guilt prodded by the Spirit’s conviction. The guilt that measures spirituality by internal humility and that prompts cries for mercy. The guilt that says, “I’m sorry, please forgive me.” Such guilt promotes grace. Then there is the other kind that drives a person to legalism. The guilt prodded by accusations of “you are not good enough” or you must do what is demanded to earn My love.” The guilt that measures spirituality by external appearances and prompts cries for perfection personally and on others. Such guilt paralyzes grace. See 2 Corinthians 7:10-12. One is a tool of God and the other is a tool of Satan. One seeks grace, the other snatches grace. One feels like liberty, the other legalism. What is the difference? How do we become gracepromoters rather than graceparalyzers? There are four key strategies to spiritual victory. (1) We must become aware of the invisible war (2) We must learn to appropriate

God’s protection for daily living. (3) We must learn to engage the enemy with supernatural weapons. (4) We must utilize God’s means of deliverance when spiritually attacked. During the time after the Japanese had surrendered in World War II, there was a period when guerilla warfare was rampant. The war was over, but some of the soldiers either did not know it or had decided to fight to the death and refused to surrender. The outcome of the war was fixed and final, yet the soldiers, Marines, and sailors who were being shot were being hurt or killed just as much as before the war ended. That is how Satan is: he was defeated at the cross, yet he is still fighting for every soul he can deceive and take to Hell with him. Paul tells the Ephesians in 6:13-15 to take up the full armor of God so that they will be able to resist in the evil day. out a dynamic relationship with Jesus: it is a lifestyle, not a checklist. These are not put on in a quick morning prayer, but through a product of weeks, months, and years of practice and cultivation. This is something we do, not a formula we recite. Preparation: A basic attitude
Paul warns us that an evil day is coming. It literally means “on a particular day at a particular time.” Because the battles are not all the same, the conflict is not about a constant, invisible source that keeps coming at us consistently every day. He waits and watches our seasons and cycles, looking for the times when we are weak. Those are the times when we are tired, in conflict with a family member, when the economy has cratered, when a loved-one is in the ICU, any given moment of weakness when we are tempted to think that God is not good. You know that little voice, don’t you? When things don’t go your way, the whisper says, “See, God doesn’t hear your prayers. Why do you give your life to a God who is not listening?” What happens is like the way the lion attacks the prey. He does not go after the entire herd, but rather one on the fringe who is tired and thirsty. He waits for your weakest moments to make his move and Satan uses the same tact. We need to be prepared not just to resist when we are strong, confident, and on guard but also to resist when we are least able to do it.

There are no times in our lives as Christians when we can sit back and relax, confident that we are out of view of the enemy. He comes with different tactics at different times because he wants to catch us off guard. Satan will vary his strategy against you and do everything he can to surprise you. Take a minute to ask yourself when and where you are most vulnerable. You will be surprised how becoming aware of and preparing for that evil day can help you win a lot more of those battles. After picking up our armor, we are then commanded to consciously and vigorously make a decisive act to stand our ground firmly and fearlessly against the enemy’s assaults [Eph. 6:14]. We may not know exactly how he will attack in the evil day, but we know what his goals are: to deceive, accuse, and discourage us.

We adopt a defensive stand because of the gains we have been given in the first three chapters of Ephesians. We have come into the kingdom of light not only as full-fledged citizens but also as children of the King. What we have been given is the Spirit of God and his gifts and we have been joined to the body of Christ, and promised an inheritance. As we walk in a manner worthy of our calling, as chapters 4 and 5 tell us to do, Satan will try to encroach on our territory and make our walk in the light very difficult. No siempre los sentimientos de culpa son dañinos. Hay culpa de la buena, aquella que hace que una persona se arrodille humildemente ante Dios. Es una culpa que resulta de ser convicto por el Espíritu Santo. Es una culpa que fomenta la espiritualidad mediante la humildad interior y el deseo de misericordia. Una culpa que expresa: «Siento mucho lo que hice, por favor, perdóname.» Esta culpa promueve la gracia. Pero por otro lado hay sentimientos de culpa nocivos que llevan a la persona a la desesperación o el legalismo. Es una culpa que se produce por la convicción de que uno no es lo suficientemente bueno o que debe cumplir ciertas demandas para ganarse el amor. Esta culpa asume que la espiritualidad por la apariencia externa y fomenta un deseo dañino de perfección en uno mismo y en los demás. Esta culpa inmoviliza la gracia. Ver 2 Corintios 7:10-12. La una es un instrumento de Dios; la otra, del diablo. La una promueve la gracia; la otra nos la arrebata. La una promueve la libertad; la otra el legalismo. La una promueve alegría; la otra depresión y ansiedad. ¿Cuál es la
diferencia? ¿Cómo podemos ser promotores de la gracia en vez de inmovilizarla? Hay cuatro estrategias claves para conseguir la victoria espiritual. (1) Uno debe ser consciente de la realidad de la guerra espiritual invisible. (2) Uno debe aprender a apropiarse de la protección que Dios provee para la vida diaria. (3) Uno debe aprender a enfrentar al enemigo con las armas sobrenaturales que Dios nos da. (4) Debemos usar las formas de liberación de Dios cuando somos atacados espiritalmente. Durante un breve tiempo después de que Japón se rindiera en la segunda guerra mundial, hubo un período de actividad guerrillera. Pablo nos dice en Efesios 6:13-15 que debemos revestirnos de toda la armadura de Dios para estar firmes en el día malo. Debemos tener la armadura divina para resistir los ataques del diablo. La enseñanza sobre «la armadura de Dios» es una descripción de cómo debemos vivir en una relación dinámica con Jesús. Todos hemos oído la vocesita. Cuando las cosas no salen cómo las esperamos, nos susurra al oído: «¿Ves? Dios no escucha tus oraciones. ¿Para qué le das tu vida a un Dios que no te escucha?» Es como cuando el león ataca su presa. No ataca toda la manada junta. Más bien se fija en las orillas en busca de la que esté cansada y sedienta.Espera los momentos de más debilidad para atacar. Debemos estar preparados para resistir, no solo cuando estamos fuertes y confiados, sino cuando nos sintamos desfallecidos y fatigados. No hay lugar en la vida cristiana para ser descuidados y pretender que estamos fuera del alcance del enemigo. Satan’s preferred tactic: Deception OBJECTIVES 1.1 SUPPORT Share with the group so that you can be protected from Satan’s deception. Each part of God’s armor protects us from a particular satanic attack. The truth, for example, saves us from the most common demonic tactic: Deception. Paul says, “Having girded your loins with truth”. A Roman soldier had a belt, and all the rest of his armor was somehow hooked to that belt. The first thing a soldier would do to get ready for battle was gird his loins or lift his long robe and tuck it into his belt so that he could move freely. The word truth in this passage means candor, sincerity, and truthfulness. It is rooted in the objective reality of the truth of God’s Word, but here it refers to the subjective, practical application of openness and honesty in all things with God and people.
Since Genesis 3, Satan’s modus operandi has not changed. He distorts our perceptions and fills our minds with false assumptions and believes. For example, he tells us that we will never be happy unless we have a lot of stuff, or until we look just right, or until we catch whatever he can get us to chase until we get it only to fill that we need more or something else to satisfy us. The dissatisfactions deep within us are the products of his lies. But the problem with deception is that we do not realize we have been deceived. For this reason, for example, we do not realize that the real secret to happiness is not anywhere in prime-time entertainment. The key to a fulfilled life has nothing to do with fast cars, revolving partners, or this year’s fashions. Happiness and pleasure are not the same!
Putting on the belt of truth is our responsibility. We are to train our hearts to love the truth, our minds perceive every thing through the clear lens of what he says is true, and our bodies to be honest. We do not need to play games, but to be honest with God, with ourselves, and with others.
We tend to believe a lot of lies. Look at these for example: (1) Take care of yourself first, because no one else will. (2) The Bible was written centuries ago, and it is just not relevant anymore in some areas. (3) Truth is relative. (4) Stand up for your rights. (5) Life is completely miserable if you

are not in total control of your life. (6) People should always treat you with fairness and respect. Since the beginning, Satan’s first attack was based on deception, and unfortunately humanity’s first response after sin was hiding, denial, and blame-shifting. It is easier to go into denial and fingerpointing than to face reality. This is why we often opt for one of these options every time that we have to face our sins. The only remedy is the belt of truth. Satan deceive us to lead us to sin, and then he continues his deception to keep us in it. Guilt plays out in our lives in very warped ways. It is often at the root of dysfunctional families, eating disorders, sexual and chemical addictions, and other issues. Satan says, “you call yourself a Christian, but if anyone knew all the things you do —those secret sins behind closed doors, the way you hide your insecurities with clothes and surgeries, the emotional dysfunction you inflict on others —they would keep their distance from you, because you are a fraud.” Guilt is a killer. because it guarded the vital organ that keeps us alive. Righteousness means “uprightness, right living, integrity in one’s lifestyle and character.’ It is a matter of conforming our will to God’s will as in Romans 12:1-2. It is putting into practice what you know is right, what God has told us though his Word and his community. When we are honest with God, accept his revealed will, and daily put into practice what he commands us, we are freed from our perfectionism. The whispers telling you to try harder are not the Holy Spirit. God does not want you to stress yourself trying harder, he wants you to apply the truth you know, rely on the power you presently possess to, by faith in Him, put on the breastplate of righteousness. Paul goes on and says, “Having Shod Your Feet with the Preparation of the Gospel of Peace”. Roman sandals were strapped up to the knee and tightly fastened to the soldier’s leg. The soles had knobs and sometimes nails protruding from them. When soldiers have a solid foundation, they can stand unmoved against their opposition. They don’t slip or lose their balance if their feet are gripping the ground. If footing is crucial in sports, how much more crucial is it in the high-stakes, life-or-death, invisible war? Preparation means establishment and conveys knowing the gospel inside and out and being ready to

share it. Satan loves to cast doubt by offering another gospel, another Jesus, or another way to salvation. Satan will add to the gospel of grace through faith, making it a gospel of grace through faith plus works and then he convinces us we have never done quite enough works. Likewise, Satan can convince us that since we are saved by grace, we can continue sinning and living irresponsibly before God. He may try to persuade us to believe that only visible health and prosperity are signs of genuine salvation, or that we can only be assured of God’s grace in our lives by a supernatural experience or occurrence. Satan may try to convince us that salvation can be attained by mere affiliation to a religious institution. We must immerse ourselves in the fundamentals and foundations of the Christian faith as it is revealed to us in the Bible. God’s Word is very clear that we are sinners in need of salvation, and we cannot help ourselves. But he sent his Son into the world to live a perfect life and to die as the full payment for our sin. God’s holiness and our guilt have been satisfied completely. By faith, we accept the sacrifice of the Son of God and, dying to our old man, we live a new live by the power of his Spirit. That is the gospel and there is no other. That is what we strap to our feet. We need to know and understand the gospel clearly as concretely as it is presented in 1 Corinthians 15:1-6 and Ephesians 2:1-9 and Romans 6:1-4.

Cada una de las partes de la armadura de Dios nos protege de un ataque particular del diablo. La verdad, por ejemplo, nos salva de la táctica diabólica más común: el engaño. Pablo dice: «Ceñida su cintura con la verdad». Todo soldado romano tenía un cinturón del cual dependía de una u otra manera toda su armadura. Lo primero que hacía un soldado que se preparaba para pelear era ceñirse el cinturón o enrollarse la larga túnica en el cinturón para poder moverse con agilidad. La palabra «verdad» en este texto significa candor, sinceridad y veracidad. Es la clase de verdad que se fundamenta en la verdad objetiva de la Palabra de Dios, pero se refiere esencialmente a la práctica interior y subjetiva de apertura y honestidad en todo trato con Dios y los hombres. Ceñirnos con el cinto de la verdad es responsabilidad nuestra. Debemos entrenar nuestro corazón para amar la verdad. nuestra mente para percibirlo todo a la luz de lo que Dios dice que es la verdad, y nuestros cuerpos para ser honestos. No necesitamos participar en los diversos juegos del engaño, la negación y la deshonestidad. Más bien debemos ser honestos con
Dios, con nosotros mismos y con los demás. El «modus operandi» de Satanás no ha cambiado desde su primera tentación en Génesis 3. Él distorsiona nuestra percepción y llena nuestra mente de suposiciones falsas. Por ejemplo, el nos convence de que jamás podremos ser felices sin tener el montón de cosas que deseamos, o sin tener la figura que queremos, o sin alcanzar el éxito que buscamos sólo para descubrir que después de haberlo alcanzado seguiremos buscando más y queriendo más. Las profundas insatisfacción que nos acosan son únicamente el producto de sus mentiras. Pero desgraciadamente el principal problema con el engaño es que usualmente al principio no nos damos cuenta de que estamos siendo engañados. Por esta razón, por ejemplo, no nos damos cuenta de que el secreto de la felicidad no está en ninguna forma de entretenimiento de primera clase. La clave para una vida realizada no tiene nada que ver con carros deportivos último modelo, con parejas atractivas, o con las últimas modas del año. ¡Felicidad y placer no son sinónimos! Pero estas, por supuesto, no son las únicas mentiras que creemos. Los humanos tendemos a creer muchas mentiras. Considera, por

ejemplo, las siguientes: (1) Cuídate primero a ti mismo, pues nada más tendrá cuidado de ti mejor que tú. (2) La Biblia se escribió hace muchos años y ya no es relevante en muchas áreas de nuestra vida moderna. (3)La verdad es relativa. Cada quien tiene su propia verdad igualmente válida. (4) Has valer tus derechos a toda costa, porque nadie más los protegerá por ti. (5) La vida es miserable si no tienes control total sobre ella. (6) Los demás deben tratarte siempre con respeto y equidad. Desde el principio el primer ataque del diablo se basó en el engaño y desgraciadamente, también desde el principio, la primera reacción humana ante el pecado sigue siendo esconder, negar, buscar excusas, y acusar a otro. Perece mucho más fácil negar o excusar los errores propios, o apuntar a otros con el dedo que enfrentarse honesta y valientemente con la realidad. Por eso con frecuencia optamos por uno de estos mecanismos cada vez que deberíamos enfrentar responsablemente nuestros pecados. Realmente el único remedio frente a esta peligrosa y perjudicial situación es «el cinto de la verdad». Satanás nos engaña para hacernos pecar. Luego sigue

engañándonos para que sigamos pecando. La culpabilidad nos enreda en formas muy sutiles. Con frecuencia, la culpabilidad es causa de familias disfuncionales, desórdenes alimenticios, adicciones sexuales y químicas y muchos otros problemas. Una vez que hemos pecado Satanás nos susurra al oído: «Dices que eres cristiano pero si los demás supieran lo que haces –tus pecados secretos, la forma en que escondes tu inseguridad con ropa, cosas y cirugías, los males emocionales que creas en otros, todos se alejarían de ti porque eres un fraude.» La culpabilidad es una táctica mortal del diablo. Otros tres engaños: el pecado, la duda y el falso evangelio
Pablo continúa su instrucción sobre la armadura de Dios diciendo: «revestidos con la coraza de justicia». La coraza romana usualmente era de bronce o de mallas de hierro entrelazadas. Cubría medio cuerpo desde el cuello hasta la cintura. Se le conocía como la «protección del corazón», pues cubría este órgano vital. Justicia significa rectitud, integridad de vida y carácter. Se trata de «conformar» nuestra vida según la voluntad de Dios, como dice Romanos 12:1-2. Se trata de poner en práctica lo que uno sabe que es correcto, lo que Dios nos ha enseñado por medio de su Palabra y su comunidad.

Si somos honestos con Dios, aceptamos su voluntad revelada, y diariamente practicamos lo que Él nos manda. Pero no caemos en ninguna forma de perfeccionismo. Aquellos pensamientos que nos instan a tratar por nosotros mismos con más fuerza no provienen del Espíritu Santo. Dios no quiere que nos «estresemos» intentando cada vez con más fuerza de voluntad. El simplemente quiere que apliquemos lo que sabemos, confiando en el poder que ahora tienemos, poniendo en Él nuestra confianza, mediante «la coraza de la justicia». Pablo continúa diciendo: «calzados los pies con la preparación para anunciar en evangelio de la paz». Las sandalias del soldado romano iban tejidas hasta la rodilla y aseguradas fuertemente a sus piernas. En la suela tenían nudos y a veces clavos para pisar firme. Si el soldado está firme sobre la tierra, puede hacerle frente al enemigo sin ceder. Si sus pies tienen un «agarre» sólido al piso, no se resbala ni pierde el equilibrio. Si un zapato apropiado es tan importante en los deportes, ¿cuándo más lo será en el combate decisivo, a vida o muerte, de la guerra? La «preparación» tiene que ver con la solidez del conocimiento del evangelio y la prontitud para compartirlo. A Satanás le fascina crear dudas presentando evangelios fraudulentos y falsas representaciones de Jesús, o

diversos caminos de salvación. Satanás le añadirá la idea de las obras al evangelio de gracia por medio de la fe, y luego nos convencerá de que no hemos hecho suficientes obras. Del mismo modo, nos convencerá de que si somos salvos por gracias, podemos seguir pecando y viviendo irresponsablemente delante de Dios. Procurará convencernos de sólo el bienestar y la prosperidad material son garantías de nuestra salvación verdadera, o de que únicamente alguna experiencia o sentimiento sobrenatural son señal de la gracia de Dios en nuestra vida. Satanás podrá convencernos de que podemos obtener la salvación sólo por afiliarnos a alguna institución religiosa. Pro eso, debemos estar inmersos en los fundamentos del evangelio de la fe Cristiana, tal y como nos lo revela la Biblia. La Palabra de Dios nos enseña con claridad que somos pecadores y que no podemos salvarnos a nosotros mismos. Pero Dios ha enviado a su hijo al mundo para vivir una vida perfecta y morir en la cruz para pagar totalmente por todos nuestros pecados. La santidad y la justicia de Dios quedaron completamente satisfechas en la cruz y nuestra culpabilidad resuelta. Por fe aceptamos el sacrificio del Hijo de Dios y, muertos al viejo hombre, vivimos una vida nueva en el poder de Su Espíritu. Este es el evangelio y no hay otro. The shield of faith is part of the armor of God mentioned in Ephesians 6:16. In Roman antiquity, there were two kinds of shields. One was a small, round, handheld shield like the kind you always see in movies about gladiators. The shield in Ephesians was about four feet high and two and a half feet wide. It had hooks on the sides to link it to other shields in a line so that an entire row of soldiers could advance without exposing themselves to incoming arrows. It was common for enemies to dip their arrows in pitch, light them, and then pelt the opposing soldiers with thousands of destructive, flaming missiles. The Romans made their shields with iron and two layers of wood, wrapped them in linen, and covered it all with leather. However, they would leave a gap between layers so flaming arrows could penetrate far enough into the shield to be quickly extinguished.

This ability to quench arrows that have the potential not only to pierce but also to start a destructive fire is what faith does for us. Faith in this context means absolute confidence in God, his promises, his power, and his program for our lives. The fiery darts of the adversary are the schemes, temptations, lies, and attacks aimed at God’s people. Their goal is to get us to shift our focus from God onto something or someone or something much less worthy than God. Let’s look at some examples of these darts. Blasphemous thoughts are one type of dart. Have you ever been praying or in communion with God when some vile or vulgar though pops into your mind? This is usually followed by a condemnation such as, “What kind of Christian are you that you could think something so despicable while communing with God?” That is the enemy shooting a flaming arrow trying to intrude on a powerful activity that

could hinder him from his agenda.
are flaming darts. This is how the enemy works.
Another potential dart is hateful thoughts. We sometimes are consumed by anger or hatred toward someone else. Unresolved anger is one of the most common ways we unknowingly leave ourselves vulnerable to demonic attack [Ephesians 4:26]. We start making assumptions about that person’s motives, and the more we think about it, the more he or she gets on our nerves and provokes in us a sense of vengeance.
The Only Effective Protection: The Shield of Faith
Doubts are another kind of fiery missile—not just the little doubts with which we all struggle, but even big-picture doubts about the gospel itself. We wonder about our salvation or whether God even exists. These thoughts scare us and we do not feel we can even express them to other people because they would not understand. Sometimes we suddenly have a burning desire to sin and we are confronted with a golden opportunity to give it to the urge. Sometimes a relationship that we have had for years suddenly erodes into unexplainable conflict. Despite years of a good track record, we have doubts about a close friend’s loyalty and integrity. Maybe we have a sudden onslaught of overwhelming times of depression, nothing due to a chemical imbalance, lack of sleep, or normal grief, but times when we are in the sunlight one minute and in the pits the next. These are a few examples and all of them
Genesis 3 and Matthew 4:1-11 are great examples of how Satan attacks. Notice the pattern that develops: it often begins with a disguise. You don’t know where the deception comes from, but somehow it casts doubt either on God and his Word or you and your worthiness. Satan wants us to think that God is cruel, indifferent, harsh, unloving, or a stern taskmaster. Next Satan wants us to focus on our own identity or worth. He fills us with pride over our own rights and identity, or he fills us with questions of our worthiness. He also wants us to have doubts about our Church and to question or neglect the Bible. This way he creates a window of opportunity and then offers us an appealing, immediate alternative rooted in the three broad sins outlined in 1 John 2: 15-16: the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. If his questions have made us vulnerable through doubt, he has found an opening in the shield of faith, and he will aim right for it in one of those three areas. The only effective response is faith. When we sense the darts of doubt and deception, we raise the shield of faith, which can extinguish everything the enemy flings at us. We apply the specific

truth of God’s word to our personal situation as soon as we are aware of an incoming missile. We do not evaluate our situation by visible circumstances, moods, or suspicions. We insist on God’s truth regardless of any other message we are receiving, and we trust it implicitly. Let us look at three specific examples of how faith can remain strong when attacked. First, we trust in God’s character and the fact that he always has our best in mind. When we become afraid, we let our emotions take over and make decisions on the basis of fear. We need to reassure ourselves with Psalms 84:11 and Romans 8:32. A second example is trusting in God’s promises and his word will dispel the darkness. Numbers 23:19 tells us that God does not lie or fail to keep a promise. We have to remind ourselves that God will supply all our needs according to his riches in glory [Phil. 3:19]. A third example is about trusting in God’s program and timing. His ways are not always the easiest, but they are the best. Read Jeremiah 29:11. When an arrow flies into your life saying, “You don’t really need to pay that person for his services,” you can cling to the truth that God’s program for integrity is best in the long run. When the dart wants you to bail on your marriage, you can step back and remind yourself that God has a plan for the marriage. http://www.planetaenvivo.com

El escudo de la fe es parte de la armadura de Dios de la cual nos habla Efesios 6:16. En la Roma antigua había dos clases de escudos. Uno era pequeño, redondo, usado con la mano, así como los que estamos acostumbrados a ver en las películas de gladiadores. El escudo del que nos habla Efesios era más o menos de 1.22 metros de alto por 61 centímetros de ancho. Tenía ganchos a los lados para engarzarlo con otros escudos y permitir que, de esta manera, una fila entera de soldados pudieran avanzar protegiéndose de las flechas enemigas. Era usual que los enemigos empaparan de combustible sus flechas, las prendieran y las lanzaran por miles contra los soldados. Los romanos hacían sus escudos con hierro y dos capas de madera enrolladas en lino y cubiertas con cuero. Los diseñaban de tal manera que las flechas penetraban apenas lo suficiente en el escudo y se extinguían rápidamente. Así pues, Pablo implica que la fe tiene la capacidad de extinguir flechas que pueden no solamente
herir de muerte sino iniciar incendios devastadores. La fe en este contexto implica total confianza en Dios, en sus
promesas, en su poder y en su plan de vida. Los dardos de fuego del adversario son tentaciones sagaces, mentiras y ataques dirigidos contra el pueblo de Dios. El objetivo es hacer que desviemos nuestra atención de Dios, enfocándonos en el miedo, la culpa, la condenación, el desánimo, la desesperanza, o en cualquier otra cosa o persona inferior al Creador. Veamos algunos ejemplos. Uno tipo de dichos dardos son súbitos pensamiento blasfemos. ¿Alguna vez has estado orando o en comunión con Dios cuando de repente alguna idea vulgar o vil penetra en tu mente? Generalmente luego siguen pensamientos condenadores tales

como: «¿Qué clase de cristiano eres tú que aún estando en oración piensas cosas tan despreciables?» Este es el enemigo, lanzándote sus dardos para contrarrestar una acción poderosa, la oración, que puede estorbar su agenda malévola. Otro tipo de dardos lo constituyen el odio y el rencor. A veces la ira o el odio nos consume. La ira mal encausada y no resuelta da lugar a ataques satánicos. [Efesios 4:26]. Pensamos en las intenciones y los motivos de quien nos ha ofendido y entre más pensamos en ello más ira sentimos y más deseos de venganza. La duda es otro misil con que Satanás nos ataca —no solo las pequeñas dudas con las que lidiamos diariamente, sino incluso dudas relacionadas con el evangelio mismo. De repente podemos dudar de nuestra salvación o de la existencia misma de Dios. Estas dudas nos asustan y ni siguiera nos atrevemos a decírselas a otros porque asumimos que no nos van a entender. Súbitamente puede también asaltarnos un deseo apremiante de pecar y se nos presentan todas

las posibilidades para hacerlo. De repente surgen fuertes conflictos en una relación que hemos mantenido por muchos años y dudamos de la fidelidad e integridad del amigo. Puede que intempestivamente nos sobrecoja un depresión intensa que no tiene ninguna causa médica, ni obedece a ninguna pena en particular que estemos pasando. Estos son apenas algunos ejemplos de las clases de dardos que puede lanzarnos el enemigo. Así opera. La única protección efectiva es el escudo de la fe
Génesis 3 y Mateo 4:1-11 son ejemplos clásicos de cómo Satanás nos ataca. Satanás «se disfraza», no engaña y siembra semillas de duda cuestionando la integridad de Dios, la validez de su Palabra o el valor y los privilegios que Dios nos ha concedido como criaturas e hijos suyos. Satanás quiere que dudemos de Dios, de su existencia, de su bondad, o de su sabiduría. Satanás quiere también que dudemos de nosotros mismos, de nuestra verdadera identidad, misión y valor. Nos llena de orgullo y pensamientos vanos acerca de lo que somos o de los derechos que tenemos, o nos hace minimizar la imagen que tenemos de nosotros mismos. Satanás también nos hace dudar de nuestra comunidad de fe, para sembrar entre nosotros la discordia. Además pone en tela de juicio la confiabilidad de la

Palabra de Dios, o nos siembra la indiferencia para que no la estudiemos ni la retengamos. Así fomenta un ambiente propicio para seducirnos con opciones llamativas en cualquiera de las categorías mencionadas en 1 Juan 2: 15-16: los deseos de la carne, los deseos de los ojos, o la vanagloria de la vida. Estas seducciones, como dardos incendiados, explotan en nuestra vida tan pronto quede un campo abierto, no protegido por el escudo de la fe. La fe es la única protección efectiva. Cuando sintamos los dardos del enemigo contra nosotros, levantemos el escudo de la fe que puede apagarlos todos. Tenemos que aprender a aplicar la Palabra verdadera y específica de Dios a cada situación particular que enfrentemos para defendernos de los misiles que nos arroja el adversario. Recordemos que las situaciones que atravesamos no consisten únicamente de circunstancias materiales, estados de ánimo y suposiciones. Debemos insistir en la verdad de Dios, sin importarnos cualquier otro mensaje que percibamos y debemos aprender a confiar en ella. Veamos tres ejemplos específicos de cómo podemos mantenernos firmes en la fe cuando seamos atacados. Primero, debemos confiar en el carácter de Dios sabiendo que Él tiene en mente lo

mejor para nosotros. Cuando nos acobardamos, nuestras emociones toman el control y nos impulsan a tomar decisiones contrarias a la voluntad de Dios. Salmos 84:11 y Romanos 8:32 nos dan seguridad y confianza. En segundo lugar, debemos confiar en las promesas de Dios para que las sombras se disipen. Números 23:19 nos dice que Dios no miente ni falla a lo prometido. Debemos recordar que Dios suplirá todas nuestras necesidades según las riquezas de su gloria [Filp. 3:19]. En tercer lugar, debemos aprender a confiar en el plan de Dios y en sus tiempos. Las obras que Dios hace no son siempre fáciles de asimilar, pero si son lo mejor. Lee Jeremías 29:11. Cuando te llegue la tentación y pienses, por ejemplo, «que realmente no tienes que pagarle a tal o cual persona por sus servicios» puedes aferrarte al modelo de integridad de Dios, que realmente será lo mejor a largo plazo. De igual manera, cuando sientas la tentación de divorciarte de tu cónyuge, recuerda el plan de Dios para el matrimonio y confía en él.

The last piece of equipment a soldier would put on was his helmet: for obvious reasons, if you are hit on the head, you are out! We have security in our salvation, our new birth when we were justified by grace through faith and delivered from the kingdom of darkness. There are many senses of salvation in the Bible— from enemies, from sin, and from captivity. According to the New Testament we are saves from temptation and from the evil one [Matthew 6:13], the pressures from the world [Acts 2:40, Gal. 1:4], our sins [Mark 16:15-16], the power of sin on our bodies [Romans 7:18-24], and the coming judgement [Roman 5:8-10]. There are three senses of salvation in the New Testament: we have been saved [justification], we are being saved [sanctification], and we will be saved [glorification]. We tend to think of salvation in the past tense, when we came to Christ. However, the word itself literally means “deliverance,” and it is more often than not, used to mean salvation from a threatening enemy. We can live in the confidence that God is accomplishing victory for us today.

The helmet of salvation is the certainty of deliverance from sin and the protection of our minds in battle. The helmet of salvation may be seen as the ability to reason with faith and wisely from a biblical worldview, no matter how that worldview comes under attack. It is not something we can do ourselves, but we can choose to receive it and God will make it happen. In Romans 12:2, we are told to not let ourselves be conformed, but to be transformed. We allow and participate in it, but God actively does it in us with our cooperation. The battle for your mind is where Satan can manipulate people toward his ends discreetly and invisibly. If he can distort our thoughts, our emotions, and our knowledge, then our behaviors and relationships will fall the way he wants them to fall. Even if he does not manage to turn us to overt evil, a little bit of distorted thinking can neutralize us and render us practically ineffective. Human thinking is ground zero in this war and if we have not been diligent to fill our minds with God’s truth and operate out of what he teaches us, we lose. most influential organ in the invisible war. So putting on the helmet of salvation is not a matter of getting a little extra protection; it cannot be done with a quick morning prayer; and it can’t be approached casually. It is the difference between eternal truth and fatal error; even between life and death itself. It is imperative that we keep God’s Word in our mind and Satan’s lies out of it. You can go through all sorts of doubts and struggles, bombarded with the flaming missiles of the enemy. The shield of faith will extinguish them, but faith can only function around the truths you have been taught. But we need to know and be certain that we have eternal salvation and VICTORY over our enemy. We need to remember that God “disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.” [Col 2:15] Wield Your Weapons The Sword Of The Spirit
The “enforcer” for the Roman soldier was an eighteen inch short sword. It was not a long, heavy

sword: it was light and meant to be used in close-in, hand-to-hand combat. It had to be easily accessible and ready to use and the soldier had to be very proficient in using it. Since the soldier’s life depended upon it, he had to feel as though it were one of his limbs and he must be diligent in honing his skills and be ready for battle. The fact that the Word of God is the sword of the Spirit teaches us two important truths. The first is that we must be in a vital relationship with the Spirit of God in order for this weapon to be operative. Your personal issues are important to God and likely fit with the larger mission, but he expects the sword to be more than personal. It is a tool of the kingdom. The degree to which your life is filled with the Spirit of God and fits with the kingdom of God is the degree to which your swordplay will be effective. The second truth is that this is not a weapon we may use any way we want to. It is made alive only by a power beyond ourselves. We are the ones who fight with it, but a stronger hand enables it. If we begin to depend on our own
authority in using the Word and not the Authority behind the Word, we become like a powerabusing cop who is in love with the immediate result rather than the higher agenda [see Luke 10:17-20]. All authority we have is imparted to us and is given by grace. In Matthew 4, Satan tempts Jesus who counters with scripture. Eventually, Satan left and that is what it means to resist the devil. You resist him by putting on the full armor of God, standing firm, taking the sword of the Spirit, and wielding that powerful weapon against all the deception. You counter lies with truth, and truth wins every time. If you are going to have the full armor of God in this invisible war, you will have to be a man of the Book. There is not way around it; it is not a legalistic requirement any more than daily nutrition is a necessity of life. You need to read the Bible in such a way that you can think your way through key chapters, you can recall core passages that you have memorized, and your mind is renewed so that you can know who you are and where you stand in Christ.

Usualmente pensamos en la salvación en tiempo pasado, cuando llegamos a Jesucristo. Pero la palabra «salvación» en sí, quiere decir «liberación» y se usa con más frecuencia para referirse a ser salvos de algún enemigo o circunstancia amenazante. Nosotros somos los que peleamos con ella, pero nuestra mano va sostenida por una mano supereminentemente poderosa que la habilita. Si dependemos de nuestra propia autoridad al usarla, nos volveremos como un policía abusivo que se deleita en el

ejercicio sórdido de su poder y no en el cumplimiento de la autoridad digna que le confiere su cargo. (ver Lucas 10:17-20). Cualquier autoridad o poder que tengamos nosotros, nos ha sido impartida por la gracia divina. En Mateo 4 leemos que Satanás tentó a Jesús, quien le respondió con la Escritura. Demon possession and the Bible

To Deny Demon Possession is to Deny Scripture. When Jesus spoke with the multitude of demons who called themselves Legion, they had identity, knew who He was, and begged Him not to cast them into the Abyss. Unless the NT writers fabricated the story, demons were real beings [Luke 8:26-39. Matthew. 8.28-34; Mark. 5.1-20]. Skeptics today often justify their unbelief by citing cases where some overzealous Christian tried to cast out a demon when obviously the problem was not spiritual but emotional, psychological, or physical. Mistaken Diagnosis does not Mean that Demons do not Exist. No doubt there have been Christians who have claimed to have dealt with demons no demons were present. There have been many people who have been hurt by well-meaning folks who tried to remove an alleged demon, but that does not mean that demons do not exist. Citing misdiagnosis and severe treatment of a supposed demoniac no more proves that demons are not here than a jury’s mistaken conviction of a murderer and his subsequent execution prove that there are no murderers. We should not deny

that there are cases of demon possession; but we should not look for demon possessed people everywhere either. Possession is rare and must be proven. We are aware that there are other ways that demons operate. Since not all demonic activity is a possession, it does not require an exorcism, but it does take Christians fighting the power of Satan by the power of the Holy Spirit. Overcoming demons requires preparation and spiritual authority. Demons are not weak, ineffective beings that any Christian can just saunter up to and order around. Look at the attitude expressed in Jude 9, “But even the archangel Michael, when he was disputing with the devil about the body of Moses, did not dare to bring a slanderous accusation against him, but said, ‘The Lord rebuke you!’” If the most powerful good angel we know did not confront Satan by his own power, we surely should maintain proper reverence. Demos can only be confronted with the authority of Jesus. Overcoming the Demonic Through Jesus’ Authority

ninth chapter of Matthew [9:1-38], Jesus demonstrated that His ministry focused on three things: healing the sick; casting out demons; and preaching the good news of the kingdom. He sent out the apostles and he told them to focus on the same three areas [Matthew 10:1]. When later on seventy more were sent, they returned with joy and exclaimed that even the demons submit to us in your name [Luke 10;1.17-21]. The purpose of Jesus’ ministry was to demonstrate his dominion over the powers which destroy humanity: Sin, disease and death, and Satan.. Satan’s tempting of Eve brought about physical maladies. His evil spirits inhabiting humankind gave him control over individuals. His introducing sin to the earth through Adam and Eve brought about the spiritual downfall of the human race. By defeating the devil’s forces, Jesus clearly demonstrated his absolute power to establish his Kingdom. Jesus did not come to heal all the sick during his earthly life. Neither he sent his apostles to do that. He came to establish the

Kingdom and his apostles were sent to proclaimed the good news. His visible victories over Satan, disease and death were a clear demonstration of His Kingdom Power. Many people believe that they have the power to perform miracles and cast out demons. They really believe this sincerely, but Jesus clearly taught that the true purpose of the Kingdom of God is to do the will of God. [Matthew 7:21-23]. Acts 19:13-16 mentions a group of Jews who practiced exorcisms, most likely even before Paul arrived at the city. The seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, commanded an evil spirit to depart a man in the name of Jesus, and it beat them up! Evidently, it is not enough to mention the name of Jesus. Reading the New Testament we see that, apart for Jesus’ earthly ministry and some isolated cases in the book of Acts, the empashis is on fighting those satanic manipulations that lead us into lying, anger, stealing, slothfulness, unwholesome talk, bitterness rage, brawling, slander, malice and
refusing to forgive [Ephesians 4:25-32]. Satan has been defeated by Jesus [Colossians 2:15]. We need to understand that it is only by his power that we can be saved from Satan. Our mission is to love him, praise him, obey him, serve him, and proclaim him. By doing these thins we can overcome. The synoptic gospels report of an unusual event where the apostles could not help a boy with a demon. It had lived in a boy since his childhood, causing seizures and suffering. It robbed him of the faculties of speech and hearing, and occasionally would try to kill him by throwing him into water or fire. Look at what was said in Matthew 17:17-21; Mark 9:21-29; and Luke 9:39-43. Jesus referred to unbelief three times in the accounts: unbelieving people in general, the unbelief of the apostles themselves, and the unbelief of the boy’s father. The apostles own lack of faith prevented their success in that spiritual battle. The purer our faith, the holier our live, the closer our relationship with Him, the more of God’s power we can call into spiritual battle.

bien intencionados pero muy mal informados. Pero esto no significa que los demonios no existan. ¿O acaso que un juez se equivoque al emitir un juicio prueba que no hay criminales? Ni hay que negar del todo la posesión demoniaca; ni hay que ver demonios en todo el mundo. Antes de afirmar que alguien está poseído por el demonio, uno debe estar completamente seguro, y el caso debe ser probado. Pero sabemos que las más de las veces la actividad de los demonios no tiene que ver con posesiones y no se necesitan exorcismos, sino que resistamos al diablo con el poder del Espíritu Santo. Debemos entender que los demonios no son seres débiles e inofensivos. Veamos la actitud del arcángel Miguel en Judas 9. «Ni siquiera el arcángel Miguel, cuando argumentaba con el diablo disputándole el cuerpo de Moisés, se atrevió a pronunciar contra él un juicio de maldición, sino que dijo: “¡Que el Señor te reprenda!”» Si el ángel más poderoso de Dios no se atrevió a confrontar a Satanás con su propia fuerza, nosotros con mayor razón debemos mantener la reverencia. Sólo se puede confrontar a los demonios con la autoridad de Jesucristo. La victoria sobre lo demoniaco Por la autoridad de Jesús

Mateo 9:1-38 vemos que el ministerio de Jesús se enfocó en tres cosas: sanar a los enfermos, expulsar demonios y proclamar el evangelio del Reino. Cuando comisionó a sus apóstoles, les dijo que se enfocaran en estas mismas tres cosas (Mateo 10:1). Cuando posteriormente setenta y dos más fueron enviados, regresaron alegres de que aún los demonios se les sujetaban en el Nombre de Jesús. (Lucas 10:1.17-21). El propósito de Jesús durante su ministerio fue demostrar su dominio sobre los poderes destructores de la humanidad: El pecado, la enfermedad y la muerte, y Satanás. Todo comenzó cuando Adán y Eva sucumbieron a la tentación de Satanás. Entonces los espíritus malos infestaron al mundo, influyendo a la humanidad para el mal. El pecado entró en el mundo y, con el pecado, el dolor y la muerte. Derrotando al diablo, Jesús demostró claramente su poder para establecer Su Reino. Jesús no vino para sanar durante su vida terrenal todas las enfermedades, ni para expulsar todos los demonios. Tampoco los apóstoles fueron enviados con este fin. Él vino a establecer el Reino y los apóstoles fueron enviados a proclamar el mensaje. Sus victorias visibles sobre el demonio, las enfermedades y la muerte fueron pruebas concluyentes del poder de Su Reino.

Muchos creen que tiene poder para hacer milagros y expulsar demonios. Lo creen sinceramente; pero Jesús nos advirtió con claridad que el verdadero objetivo del reino de Dios es hacer la voluntad de Dios (Mateo 7:21-23). Hechos 19:13-16 habla de un grupo de Judíos que practicaban exorcismos, seguramente incluso antes de que Pablo llegara a la ciudad. Los hijos de un tal Esceva quisieron enfrentar un demonio invocando el nombre de Jesús. El resultado fue funesto: el demonio los golpeo con gran violencia. Así pues, no basta con decir el nombre de Jesús. Al leer el Nuevo Testamento podemos comprobar que. aparte del ministerio terrenal de Jesús y algunos casos más aislados registrados en los Hechos, el énfasis de los escritores bíblicos es la lucha espiritual contra las manipulaciones satánicas que nos llevan a mentir, insultar, robar, ser perezosos, rencorosos, chismosos, maliciosos, groseros, inmorales, y cosas semejantes (Efesios 4:25-32). Satanás ha sido derrotado por Jesús (Colosenses 2:15), y Él presente en la iglesia, mantiene su victoria. Los cristianos necesitamos reconocer que únicamente al amparo de Jesús somos salvos del diablo. Es Él el que derrota al diablo por nosotros. Nuestra misión es amarle, adorarle, servirle, obedecerle y proclamarle. Haciendo esto somos más que vencedores.

How Does Satan Use Religion?
OBJECTIVES 1.1 SUPPORT Discuss with the group how you can support each other to keep away from false religion. 1.2 FELLOWSHIP List the differences between the fellowship of the Spirit and the friendship you might experience in any religious group. 1.3 FAITH Discuss how faith and good conscience are related (See 1 Timothy 1:5, 19, 3:9). 1.4 GROWTH List the things you can do to in order to grow so that you can be saved from false teachings (Efesios 4:11-16) 1.5 VALUES Lis the values which are unique to the Christian faith as we can read about it in the Scriptures. Why are they unique?
Satan has always use religion to effectively oppose the plans of God. Even within the church we can see some of his most effective jobs. Gossip, greed, pride, quarrels, sectarism and other sins like these often flourish in churches. Satan can even used well intentioned Christians to confused people. Remember Jobs friends who came to “counsel” him afters Satan had taken his property, killed his children, and struck him with a terrible disease. When nothing else worked in Satan’s attack against Job, this approach did. When Satan took Job’s riches, he kept his faith. He clung to God as he buried his children, chastised his wife for he lack of faith and continued to look to heaven. However, while defending himself to his brothers, he became proud. He became so exasperated that he asked God to come down from heaven and explain all that had happened to him. God made it clear to Job that unless he had God’s level of intelligence and power, he could not understand the explanation, even if God gave it. When nothing else made Job question God, the attack by his brothers did. Good men with good hearts who had come to save their brother nearly drove him to defeat.

Christians who murmur and complain and who judge and condemn each other bring great pleasure to those evil forces camped on the other side. What would happen if we fought as tenaciously against Satan as we do against our brother? Attacks from outside our ranks force us together, making us stronger by forcing us to depend on each other. Attacks from inside our ranks wrench unity from us, making us vulnerable to the outside attacks that inevitably follow. As a result of Satan’s schemes [See 2 Corinthians 2:11]. new and weak Christians stumble and get discouraged. Seeds of major religious deceit are planted, and large religious institutions and trends are formed so that Satan can continue misleading people. The following are some of the most common themes of false religion: Hypocrisy, power, selfrighteousness, greed, immorality, ignorance, and false doctrine. Hypocrisy is defined as “the pretense of having feelings or characteristics one does not possess; especially, the deceitful assumption of praiseworthy qualities.” Jesus used it as a slur in Matthew 23:28 and he did not speak to other sinners as harshly as he did to hypocrites. compassion; hypocrites received his scorn. Jesus healed a woman on the Sabbath in Luke 13:15-16 and was called out by the synagogue ruler and religious leaders. He blasted them for their hypocrisy. He humiliated them publicly. Diotrephes rejected the teachings of the apostle John and even expelled from the church all those who wanted to fellowship with the disciples of the apostle. He did that because he wanted to have the first place in the church [3 John 9-11]. Like the Pharisees and the Teachers of the Law in times of Jesus, he loved places of honor, the most important seats and reverential salutations from men [Matthew 23:6-7]. Leaders of false religions thrive on accumulated power and recognition. Closely related to the desire for power and recognition is greed. Paul clearly says that false teachers think that religion is a means to financial gain [1 Timothy 6:5] and Peter warned his disciples saying: “In their greed these teachers will exploit you with stories they have made up.” [2 Peter 2:3]. The Self-Righteous Fallacy
A major theme in false religion is an utter sense of selfrighteousness. Some think that their standing before God is secure because of their obedience and dedication and that God owes them salvation. They may give lip service to God’s grace, but they truly believe they have raised themselves above the wicked by their observance of the law of

God. Submissive they may be; humble they are not.
Other Religious Fallacies
God offers to count us as righteous because of our faith in Jesus. Righteousness is not and can never be given in reward of our own actions, even our own obedience. Read Romans 4:4-5. God is not obligated to me at all, even though I serve him with all I have. Since I cannot keep every command in the Bible, he is not obligated to reward me for partial-credit of the commands I do keep. The penalty for broken commands overpowers any blessings “owed” for kept ones [Romans 6:23]. God grants me righteousness on the basis of his mercy, when I turn myself to him in faith.
On the other extreme there are always people who use the concepts of grace and freedom to “indulge in sinful nature” [Galatians 5:13]. Peter says: “These men are springs without water and mists driven by a storm. Blackest darkness is reserved for them. For they mouth empty, boastful words and, by appealing to the lustful desires of sinful human nature, they entice people who are just escaping from those who live in error. They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves of depravity —for a man is a slave to whatever has mastered him.” [2 Peter 2:17-19].
To the self-righteous, obedience to a specific, chosen set of commands becomes the ultimate basis for relationship with God. Any issues outside the chosen set of “salvation commands” become matters of opinion, even when they deal with strong moral issues like war, hunger, abortion, and fairness. Commands within the chosen set become matters of faith, even when they deal with such trivial things as which translation of the Bible you read [See Matthew 23:23].
False religion is also the result of ignorance. The apostle Peter, for instance, speaks of Paul’s writings and says that in them we find “some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction.” [2 Peter 3:16]. Neglect and ignorance of the Word of God lead to false religion.
Self-righteousness is arrogance; brash, snobbish, spiritual arrogance. Read Luke 18:11-14. Self-righteousness treats others with disdain when they can’t live up to the perfect standards chosen by the group. It is an arrogance that forgets that no one can perfectly live up to the standards of God.

In 2 Corinthians 10 and 11 Paul deals arguments, boasting, contradictions and accusations [10:5] of “false prophets, deceitful workmen, masquerading as apostles of Christ”. He says that we do not have to wonder, “for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. It is not surprising, then, if his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness.” [11:14-15]. ¿Cómo usa Satanás la religión? «Satanás mismo se disfraza de ángel de luz.» Paul – 2 Corintios 11:
Satanás siempre ha usado la religión para oponerse a los planes de Dios. Incluso dentro de la misma iglesia podemos ver algunos de sus más efectivos trabajos. Los chismes, la avaricia, el orgullo, los pleitos, el sectarismo y otros pecados semejantes florecen en las iglesias. Satanás puede incluso usar cristianos con buenas intenciones para confundir a la gente. Recordemos los amigos de Job que vinieron para consolarlo y aconsejarlo después de que Satanás le quitó sus propiedades, le mató sus hijos y lo hirió con una terrible enfermedad. Cuando todo lo demás falló en los ataques del diablo contra Job, este ataque particular no. Cuando Satanás le quitó a Job las riquezas, él mantuvo su fe. Se aferró a Dios al sepultar a sus hijos, reprendió a su esposa por su falta de fe y siguió mirando al cielo. Sin embargo, al tener que defenderse contra sus hermanos, mostró un poco de orgullo. Se desesperó tanto que le pidió a Dios que descendiera del cielo a explicarle lo que estaba pasando. Dios le aclaró a Job que mientras él no tuviera la misma inteligencia y poder, no entendería nada, aunque Dios se lo explicara. Mientras nada hizo que Job dudara de Dios o lo cuestionara, el ataque de sus hermanos logró que lo hiciera. Estos eran buena
gente, con buenos corazones. Habían venido a «salvar» a Job y por poco lo destruyen. Los Cristianos que murmuran, juzgan y condenan a otros, le dan gusto a las fuerzas de maldad, acampadas al lado contrario. ¿Qué pasaría si pelearamos tan tenazmente contra Satanás como lo hacemos contra otros hermanos? Los ataques que vienen de afuera hacen que nos unamos y que nos apoyemos más unos a otros. Los ataques desde adentro nos quitan la unidad y nos hacen vulnerables a los ataques de afuera, que inevitablemente seguirán. Como resultado de las maquinaciones del diablo (Ver 2 Corintios 2:11] los cristianos nuevos y débiles se desalientan. Se siembran semillas peligrosas de error religioso y se forman grandes instituciones y tendencias religiosas, por medio de las cuales Satanás seguirá engañando a la gente. Los siguientes son algunos de los temas más sobresalientes de la religión falsa: Hipocresía, poder, justicia propia, avaricia, inmoralidad, ignorancia y falsa doctrina. Hipocrecia es «pretender tener sentimientos o características que uno no tiene, especialmente con la intensión de mostrar cualidades valiosos que uno no tiene.» Jesús acusó a los fariseos de hipócritas

en Mateo 23:28 y no habló a otros pecadores tan fuerte como lo hizo a los hipócritas. Recibió con compasión a los ladrones y a las prostitutas, pero fue duro con los hipócritas. En una ocasión sanó a una mujer en sábado (Lucas 13:15-16) y los líderes de la sinagoga le llamaron la atención. Jesús los confrontó por su hipocresía y los humilló públicamente. Diótrefes rechazó las enseñanzas del apóstol Juan e incluso expulsó a los que querían tener alguna comunión con los discípulos del apóstol, porque quería el primer lugar en la iglesia. (3 Juan 9-11). Como los fariseos y los maestros de la ley en tiempos de Jesús él amaba los puestos de honor, los asientos importantes y los saludos reverenciales de los hombres (Mateo 23:6-7). A los líderes de las falsas religiones es fascina acumular poder y reconocimiento. Muy cercano al poder y al reconocimiento está el deseo de riquezas. Pablo dijo claramente que los falsos maestros toman la religión como fuente de ganancia (1 Timoteo 6:5] y el apóstol Pedro le advirtió a sus discípulos que por avaricia los falsos maestros harían mercadería de ellos (2 Pedro 2:30. último de justicia propia. Hay quienes piensan que tienen asegurada su posición delante de Dios por su obediencia y dedicación y que Dios les debe la salvación. Pueda que hablen de la gracia de Dios, pero creen sinceramente que se han levantado muy por encima de los inicuos con su observancia de la ley de Dios. Puedan que sean sumisos, pero no son humildes.

Los mandamientos escogidos se vuelven asuntos de fe, incluso cuando tengan que ver con cosas tan triviales como la clase de traducción de la Biblia que debemos usar. (Ver Mateo 23:23).
Dios nos justifica por la fe en Cristo Jesús. La justifican no se da ni nunca se dará como recompensa por nuestros hechos, o incluso por nuestra obediencia. Lee Romanos 4:4-5. Dios no está obligado a darme nada, aunque yo le sirva con todo lo que tengo. Puesto que yo no puede cumplir cabalmente cada mandamiento de la Biblia, Dios no tiene ninguna obligación de recompensarme por mi obediencia incompleta. La pena por los mandamientos que desobedecemos sobrepasa cualquiera que Dios pueda «debernos» Romanos 6:23). Dios me da su justificación según su misericordia, cuando yo me vuelvo a él con fe.
El sentido de justicia propia nos lleva a la arrogancia, la soberbia, el esnobismo y el orgullo espiritual. Lee Lucas 18:11-14. Si tenemos un sentido de justicia propia tratamos a los demás con desdén si no pueden mantener una marcación perfecta según los estándares establecidos por el grupo. Es una arrogancia que se olvida de que nadie puede vivir perfectamente según los estándares de Dios.
Para alguien convencido de su justicia propia la obediencia de ciertos mandamientos escogidos es la base final de nuestra relación con Dios. Cualquier asunto fuera de los «mandamientos de salvación» se convierte en una

Al otro extremo hay siempre gente que quieren usar los conceptos de la gracia y la libertad como pretexto para dar rienda suelta a los deseos de la carne Gálatas 5:13). seducen con los instintos naturales desenfrenados a quienes apenas comienzan a apartarse de los que viven en el error. Les prometen libertad, cuando ellos mismos son esclavos de la corrupción, ya que cada uno es esclavo de aquello que lo ha dominado. (2 Pedro 2:17-19). La falsa religión también es el resultado de la ignorancia. El apóstol Pedro también comentaba que entre los escritos de Pablo han algunas cosas “difíciles de entender, las cuales los indoctos e inconstantes cambian como las otras Escrituras para su propia perdición.» (2 Pedro 3:16). El descuido, la negligencia y la ignorancia de la Palabra de Dios nos puede llevar a la falsa religión. En 2 Corintios 10 y 11 Pablo enfrenta los argumentos, la altivez, las contradicciones y acusaciones (10:5) de “falsos profetas, obreros fraudulentos, que se disfrazan como apóstoles de Cristo». Y dice que no es ninguna sorpresa porque tanbién «Satanás se disfraza como ángel de luz. Por eso no es de sorprenderse que sus servidores se disfracen de servidores de la justicia» (11:14-15). Estos líderes desviaban a los cristianos del camino de la verdad, enseñándoles doctrinas falsas. También debemos recordar aquí que la gran apostasía acerca de la cual Pablo previno a Timoteo y a la iglesia donde él ministraba se debería a «espíritus engañosos y a doctrinas de demonios.» ( 4:1).

How Does Satan Use Pain? OBJECTIVES 1.1 SUPPORT Discuss with the group your feelings as you realize you are a soldier of the cross. 1.2 FELLOWSHIP List the insights which come to mind when you think of Christian fellowship as soldier camaraderie in times of war. 1.3 FAITH Discuss how painful experiences can debilitate or strengthen faith. What can we do when we find ourselves professing a faith we really do not have? 1.4 GROWTH List the major obstacles you find in your life which hinder your from fighting on the front line to save others. 1.5 VALUES Make a list of values you can learn from reading the story of Lazarus resurrection on John 11.
Satan uses pain to misfocus God’s people. He has done this as long as mankind has served God. Remember his attack to righteous Job? Satan believed that if enough pain came into Job’s life, he would curse God. If you were Job, what would you have thought when every thing suddenly went bad? Would you have questioned God? Would you have been angry with Him? Have you ever been angry with God? Has he let someone close to you die even though you fervently prayed for their recovery? Most Christians have. Maybe he allowed someone to walk out your door, never to return, though your love screamed at God not to let him go. Sometimes people get angry because He does not stop child abuse or prevent children from dying or getting sick. Would you like to know how He reacts when you are angry with Him? John 11 gives us a glimpse into God’s reactions to our human weaknesses, and how he feels about our anger, doubt, and questioning. Mary and Martha had mourned for four days and could not understand why Jesus had not come or where he was. They had implored for Jesus to come when Lazarus was sick and they felt that

they were close to Jesus, so close that nothing else could come into their way: they were important to him! When Jesus arrived in the city, Martha went out to meet him and she did not greet him with thankfulness. She went right to the point and her first words to a tardy Jesus were, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.” As far as she was concerned, it was Jesus’ fault that Lazarus was dead, and she wanted him to know it. Martha lashed out at the God who could heal the hurt because He had let the hurt happen in the first place. If He truly was God and really did love them as much as they thought he did, Lazarus would not be in that grave, the sisters would not have this pain in their hearts and they would not be asking and wondering where Jesus is. Since Martha is human, what more human thing is there than to lash out at the one who let you down? She still loved Jesus, he still had the power, but her pain was only there because he let it be and she did not appreciate it one bit. Neither did Mary! His power over death and resurrection. When Mary reproved Him, he was deeply moved in spirit and troubled. Experiencing firsthand the inconsolable spirits of the sisters and their friends, he showed his divined reaction to human anger, doubt, and questioning. Remember, Jesus wept. And so we see into the mind of God. He cries. He does not chastise or punish, he feels the pain himself and takes the burden of the pain into his own heart. When we wail out in pain and anger at God, He and Jesus are watching with the Spirit nearby, explaining what He found deep in our hearts, and they all cry [Romans 8:26-27]. By using the pain and hurt in our lives Satan wins a minor victory. He weakens our faith and shifting all blame to God and maintaining his low profile to keep us from seeing who it is that really hurts us. His deception prevents us from looking to God for strength and healing at the very time when we most need to hold his hand, we turn from Him in anger, accusing him of not loving us. Martha told Jesus she knew He could still raise Lazarus, but she did not believe it. Martha’s answer to the question posed in John 11:26-27 was lip service to Jesus’ power and position but it evades the heart of His question. She replied, “Yes Lord, I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who was to come into the world”. Maybe she mouthed a stronger faith than she felt. When Jesus commanded to remove the stone from the tomb, Martha objected and reminded Jesus that Lazarus had been dead for four

days. Jesus was not bring Lazarus from the grave without removing the stone, but she begged Him not to move it. What does that tell you about her faith in an impending resurrection? However, Martha’s lack of faith did not surprise Jesus. He understood that her pain had pushed her faith into a little corner of her mind where it could still talk but could not lead. Waiting only long enough for the stone to be removed, he brought Lazarus back to life. The Threefold Evil Strategy
Satan uses a threefold plan of attack for every person. The first phase of that plan is to keep the person from ever becoming a Christian. He is extremely effective with that one. Most of the people on earth are not Christians. If a person survives that attack and becomes a Christian, the second phase of the plan is deceiving him into abandoning his Christianity. Read 2 Peter 2:20-21. Fortunately, few Christians lose their salvation, but the parable of the soils definitely indicates that it could happen. In Phase three, satanic beings attack those Christians they can’t lure away from God. If Satan cannot steal a person’s salvation, he attempts to steal his effectiveness. If he cannot keep this person from heaven, at least he can keep him from taking others with him. Satan attempts to keep a person so focused on healing his wounds that he never fights on the front line for those who do not know Jesus.

When Satan’s forces seriously wound a soldier of Christ, many other soldiers of the cross have to spend multiple hours and great effort trying to save him. Sometimes it seem that most of our time is spent healing the wounded, leaving precious little time to fight on the front lines, saving the lost. The story is told of a commando group during Desert Storm that were charged with destroying vital communications gear behind enemy lines. One commando fell before enemy fire, and as his comrades ran past him, they did not stop to pick him up; instead, they dropped their extra ammunition as they ran past him. When asked why they did not rescue their fellow soldier, the commander of the unit stated that by stopping to assist the fallen soldier would have compromised the mission, and in turn, endangered the lives of hundreds of other soldiers. Dropping the wounded soldier extra ammunition made it possible for him to hold the enemy off longer, ensuring the success of the mission. He died fulfilling his duty. Jesus decided to let Lazarus die because his death and resurrection would strengthen the faith of to others who needed stronger faith, including the apostles. Though his sisters found it painful, the good that resulted more than equaled their sacrifice. Jesus could have prevented Lazarus from dying, but the battle superseded the importance of the soldier. apostles of Christ”.

¿Cómo usa Satanás el dolor? «En el mundo tendréis aflicción; pero confiad, yo he vencido al mundo.» Jesús – Juan 16:33
Satanás usa el dolor para desenfocar al pueblo de Dios. Lo ha hecho desde el comienzo de la humanidad. Siempre que queremos servir al Señor. ¿Te acuerdas de Job? Satanás pensó que si podía causarle el suficiente dolor a Job, éste maldeciría a Dios. Si tú hubieras estado en el lugar de Job ¿qué habrías hecho cuando de repente todas las cosas empezaron a salir mal? ¿Habrías cuestionado a Dios? ¿Te habrías enojado con Él? ¿Alguna vez te has enojado con Dios? ¿Ha permitido Dios que alguien cercano a ti muera aunque le hayas pedido fervientemente por su recuperación? A la mayoría de cristianos nos ha pasado esto. Talvez Dios permitió que alguien se fuera de la casa para no regresar jamás, aunque con amor le pediste a Dios que no se fuera. A veces la gente se enoja con Dios porque no previene el abuso a los niños o porque permite que se enfermen, sufran y se mueran. ¿Te gustaría saber cómo reacciona Dios cuando nos enojamos con Él? Juan 11 nos permite vislumbrar la reacción de Dios frente a nuestras debilidades humanas, y cómo se siente Él frente a nuestra ira, dudas y dolor.
María y Marta habían estado llorando la muerte de su hermano por cuatro días y no entendías porqué Jesús no había llegado a tiempo, ni sabían dónde estaba. Le habían rogado a Jesús que viniera, cuando Lázaro estaba enfermo porque creían que eran amigas cercanas de Jesús, tan allegadas que nada podría obstaculizar su venida; ¡Pensaban que eran importantes para Jesús! Cuando Jesús llegó a la ciudad, Marta salió a recibirlo, pero no lo saludó con gratitud. Fue directo a lo que le había estado doliendo en su corazón y le dijo, «Señor, si hubieras estado aquí, nuestro hermano no hubiera muerto.» Todo lo que a Marta se le podría ocurrir es que Jesús tenía la culpa de la muerte de su hermano, y ella quería que Él lo entendiera bien. Marta protestaba contra Dios, quien podía sanarle la herida, porque en primer lugar era Él quien había permitido que se abriera la herida. Si Él realmente fuera Dios y si los amaba tanto como ellas pensaban, Lázaro no estaría en la tumba, ellas no tendrían ese dolor tan grande en su corazón y no estarían preguntándose dónde estaba Jesús cuando más ellas lo necesitaron. Puesto que Marta es humana, qué más podría esperarse de un ser humano que quejarse contra

aquel que la defraudó. Amaba a Jesús, Jesús tenía el poder; pero ella sufría y se enojaba porque Jesús había permitido que sucediera la desgracia, lo cual ella no entendía. ¡Tampoco lo entendía María! Cuando Marta acusó a Jesús, Él trató dulcemente de enseñarle que él tenía poder sobre la vida y la muerte. Además su espíritu se conmovió. Viendo el corazón inconsolable de las hermanas y de todos los amigos, mostró la reacción divina ante el dolor y ira humana. ¡Jesús lloró! Así podemos vislumbrar el corazón de Dios. Dios llora. No nos castiga o nos maltrata. Él siente la carga de nuestro dolor en su propio corazón. Cuando clamamos en dolor y rabia a Dios, El Padre, Jesús y el Espíritu Santo, quien explica lo que hay dentro de nuestro corazón, mejor de lo que nosotros mismos podamos entenderlo, nos entienden y también se conmueven. (Romanos 8:26-27). Pero Satanás usa las heridas y el dolor en nuestra vida para ganar, por lo menos, pequeñas victorias. Debilita nuestra fe y desvía nuestra atención del verdadero causante de todas las desgracias de la humanidad: Satanás mismo. Engañándonos evita que busquemos fortaleza en Dios precisamente en los momentos cuando más necesitamos aferrarnos a su mano y sentir su

presencia. Entonces nos apartamos de Dios disgustados, acusándolo de desamor e injusticia. Marta le dijo a Jesús que ella sabía que Lázaro resucitaría, pero en el fondo no lo creía. Su respuesta a la pregunta de Jesús en el verso 26, era solamente una afirmación de rigor que en el fondo sólo evadía el meollo de la pregunta de Jesús. Marta contestó: «Sí, Señor; yo creo que tú eres el Cristo, el Hijo de Dios, el que había de venir al mundo.» Pero en realidad estaba declarando una fe más grande de la que realmente tenía. Cuando Jesús pidió que removieran la piedra, Marta objetó alegando que ya habían pasado cuatro días desde la muerte de Lázaro. Jesús no iba a resucitar a Lázaro, sin que la piedra fuera removida. Ésta era la prueba de la fe de los que estaban allí, incluidas Marta y María. Pero Marta se opuso a que se quitara la piedra. ¿Qué nos dice esto acerca de la fe que en verdad Marta tenía? Sin embargo, la falta de fe de Marta no fue una sorpresa para Jesús. Él entendía que el dolor había arrinconada la fe en alguna esquina de su corazón desde donde podía hablar; pero sin ejercer ningún control. Jesús, esperó que quitaran la piedra e inmediatamente resucitó a Lázaro.

Satanás una un plan de tres fases para atacar a cada individuo. La primera fase consiste en evitar que la persona se haga cristiana. El diablo es muy efectivo a la hora de poner obstáculos para que la gente no se convierta. Estos incluyen entretener a los cristianos y estorbarlos para que no prediquen el evangelio. La mayoría de personas en el mundo no optan por la fe de Jesús.
Cuando las fuerzas del diablo hieren seriamente a un soldado de Cristo, muchos otros soldados tienen que gastar innumerables horas y hacer un gran esfuerzo para tratar de ayudarlo. A veces parece que pasamos más tiempo sanando los heridos que luchando en el frente de la batalla para salvar a los perdidos.
Si alguien sobrevive estos ataques y llega a ser cristiano, la segunda fase de la estrategia satánica es apartarlo con engaños de la fe. Lee 2 Pedro 2:20-21. Afortunadamente son pocos los cristianos verdaderos que pierden su salvación, pero la parábola de los terrenos enseña que sí puede pasar. En la fase tres las fuerzas satánicas se concentran en aquellos cristianos a quienes no pueden engañar para apartarlos de Dios. Si el diablo no puede quitarles su salvación, procurará hacerlos ineficaces. Si no puede impedir que vayan al cielo, tratará de impedir que inviten a otros. Satanás tratará de mantenernos totalmente enfocados en sanar nuestras heridas para que no podamos luchar en el frente de batalla para rescatar a los que no son cristianos. Y con frecuencia, sus estrategias son muy efectivas; puesto que muchos cristianos se mantienen fieles pero no logran

Se cuenta la historia de un grupo de soldados que fueron comisionados en una guerra para destruir importantes medios de comunicación del enemigo. Uno de los soldados cayó herido y al pasar sus camaradas por su lado, no lo levantaban, sino sólo le dejaban más munición. Cuándo les preguntaron porqué no levantaron al compañero herido, el comandante respondió que si se hubieran parado a socorrer al soldado herido, hubieran puesto la misión en alto riesgo poniendo en peligro la vida de cientos de otros soldados. Al dejarle más munición al saldado herido, él podía detener al enemigo un poco más de tiempo y asegurar así el éxito de la misión. Murió en el cumplimiento de su deber. Jesús decidió que dejaría que Lázaro muriera porque su muerte y su resurrección fortalecerían la fe de otros, quienes necesitaban de esta fortaleza, incluyendo los apóstoles. Aunque fue una experiencia muy dolorosa para Marta y María el bien que de esto resultó bien valió la pena.
