Lady Bulldogs celebrate ‘Senior Night’, finish home schedule on high note

The Howe Lady Bulldogs (6-18-1; 48) closed out home schedule on Friday with a big 9-8 win over Bells. Earlier in the week, Howe lost to Blue Ridge, 8-3 on ‘Senior Night’ which was pushed to Wednesday due to bad weather on Tuesday. The Lady Bulldogs defense has improved greatly since the beginning of the season as Howe committed only one error on Wednesday. Ryleigh Craven started in the circle for the Lady Bulldogs. Howe had a 2-1 lead heading into the seventh inning but Blue Ridge tied the game and sent it to extra innings where spectators saw the game go nine innings before the Lady Tigers put a 6-spot on the board in the ninth inning. Craven pitched 8.2 innings, allowing six earned runs on eight hits. She walked four and struck out 14. She was relieved by Railyn Murphy who pitched the final out. On Friday, Howe beat Bells in a thriller where the Lady Bulldogs racked up 22 hits in the game. A 5-run sixth inning saw Howe storm back from a 7-4 deficit and steal the win in the last moments of the game. Jocee McCullar and Fuhr each had four hits while Kamry Snapp, Craven, and Jordan Brunner each added three. Craven went the distance and allowed eight earned runs on 13 hits. She didn’t allow a walk and struck out 10. The biggest strikeout was to end the game which sent the team into a frenzy for their final moment on the home field.
