School board questions (Continued from page 3)

Jeff Dailey—My best hopes for the future of the district are that all students achieve successful educational outcomes and the school board continues being proactive in planning for population growth. Charles Haley—My hope is our ISD continues to strive to develop highly educated, strong leaders of our community. Our current students are the future leaders of our nation and we must ensure they are prepared to step into the next chapter of their lives after graduation. I would like Howe ISD to be known as one of the best school districts in North Texas by always challenging our students and faculty to be the best they can be on a daily basis. Focus on teaching our students to respect their peers and anyone they encounter throughout the day. Learning to respect others at an early age can have many benefits as the students graduate and enter the world. If elected, what would you hope would be key accomplishments of the board during your years of service? Clint Catching—If re-elected I would hope that the board will be

able to provide guidance through clearly stated goals, provide teachers the necessary facilities and tools for an effective education and maintain a safe and comfortable learning environment for students and teachers alike. I would hope that through innovation, financially responsible decision making, the integrity of our staff and meeting the challenges of growth and funding the Howe ISD will be recognized as an outstanding school district for years to come. Jeff Dailey—I would consider it a key accomplishment if all students were meeting their academic goals, all students graduated with a high school diploma, and all students, whether attending college or entering the workforce upon graduation, were prepared to be successful citizens. Charles Haley—My hope is that with the other members of the board, we could work towards continual progress across multiple facets of the school district. Improving facilities, technology, and faculty will only help in advancing students’ attitudes and overall assessments. The most critical outcome is to see that the students’ potential is met and exceeded. I’m a firm believer that there is always opportunity for improvement. We should always strive to get better.

Howe 5th and 6th grade Bulldogs make the playoffs The Howe fifth and sixth grade Bulldogs (5-2) came up short on Saturday and lost the final game of the season 20-6 to the Paris Wildcats. The Bulldogs took the opening kickoff and were driving down the field when they fumbled the ball and Paris took possession of it on their own 40 yard line. A few plays later they broke a big run and scored their first touchdown of the day from the Howe 40 yard line. After a successful 2 -point conversion, the Wildcats led 8-0. Howe couldn't get their offense going in the first half, but Paris was able to break some big plays and the Bulldogs trailed 20-0 at the half. The second half was a different story as the Dog defense made some adjustments, held strong, kept playing hard, and

didn't allow Paris to score again. The Bulldogs offense wasn't able to get any traction until early in the fourth quarter when they drove the ball 60 yards and quarterback Bryce Pieper powered it in from the one yard line for the Bulldogs only score of the game. Howe looks forward to seeing who they will face in the first round of the playoffs next Saturday, October 24.

First and second grade Bulldogs beat Bells The Howe first and second grade Bulldogs traveled to Leonard Saturday to take on a familiar foe in the Bells Panthers. Howe took the opening kickoff, and quarterback Hayes Carter engineered a drive chewing up 5:55 on the clock and culminating with Carter’s first touchdown of the season from three yards out. The conversion attempt failed, and the score was 6-0. Bells answered with a long drive of their own, but they were stopped on fourth down at the three yard line by Noah Sevarino and Mason Hall. Howe began another long drive with interior linemen Sevarino, Raidyn Hogue and Reed Coffey allowing Carter and fullback Levi Halladay to get the Bulldogs out of the shadow of their own end zone. Mason Hall then raced 65 yards on a sweep down the left sideline for the Bulldogs second score of the day. Halladay converted the extra point and the Bulldogs had a 13-0 lead with time running out in the first half.

Bells put a scare into the Bulldog faithful on the final play of the first half, but Hall was able to run down the Panther ball carrier inside the five yard line on the final play of the half. Bells took the second half kickoff and drove inside the five yard line once again. But Sevarino, Hall and the rest of the Bulldog defense stiffened, and the Panthers turned the ball over on downs. The Bulldogs began their final scoring drive of the day from the 7-yard line. Strong running up the middle by Halladay set the table for a reverse to Jaiden Gil who made the first would-be tackler miss with a nifty cut then raced 71 yards for the final score of the day for the Bulldogs. Carter punched in the extra point, and the Bulldogs led 20-0 early in the fourth quarter. The Panthers were able to get a late score, but Gil recovered the ensuing onside kick, and Carter and the offense ran off the rest of the time to give the Dogs a 20-7 victory and their second win of the season.
