How high for Howe High? Howe's Harvey finishes sixth at state in high jump

But over the past few weeks people have been asking Riley if she's Ally's big sister. The Harvey family has produced a lot of great athletes in Howe over the years, but Ally became the first to compete for a state championship in any sport as she improved quickly from the first part of track season to now. As a matter of fact, the tall sophomore started the season on March 8 in Bells by finishing fourth in the high jump at 4'-8". But with constant work and training, over the weekend Harvey climbed up to 5'-2" to finish sixth in state for Class 3A. On April 11, Harvey hit 5'-0" for the first time in Farmersville which placed her second in district and qualify for area. In Pottsboro at the area meet, she surprised the field with a 5'-2" jump to win the area championship. Her four inch improvement over the course of a few weeks stunned everyone except her and her coach Eric
Johns. At the end of April, Harvey had even improved to a 5'-4" jump to win the regional championship. The weekend meet saw Trinity Thompson from Early, Texas win the gold at 5'-7" while Rosslyn Wright of Ingram Moore took second at 5'-4". As much as Harvey improved from the beginning of the track season to now, she said it wasn't a good day for her as she had hoped for her personal best of 5'-4". However, she says she's planning on improving to 5'-6" next season. Ally Harvey, also an outstanding basketball player told the Van Alstyne Leader that she'd always dreamed about going to state, but had never thought about doing it in track. She credits practice and her coach for helping make the 2018 track season one she'll never forget.
