Fulenchek gets first win of season

Former Howe Bulldogs starter Garrett Fulenchek had a sold performance last Sunday for the Hudson Valley Renegades to earn his first victory of the season Fulenchek threw two scoreless innings in relief while striking out four and allowing only one walk and one hit.

The tall right-hander has an ERA this year of 5 24 thank in part to one outing where he gave up five earned runs in only one-third of an inning Without that game, Fulenchek has only allowed five earned runs in 15 innings Overall, he has walked 14 and struckout nine hitters.

Fulenchek has been great in each of his last two outings combining for four innings pitched, striking out five and walking only one Garrett

sees our hearts and exposes just what He knows we can, and should, submit to Him I think we would hide and run if God exposed our shortcomings all at once He is gentle and uses His surgeon’s sword with mercy; little by little like a surgeon with a patient facing multi-operations

“For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart,” Hebrews 4:12

A two-edged sword is sharp and in comparison, God's word is even sharper It can make a distinction between a soul (the heart or the mind, will and emotions) and a spirit (God given to search for Him) and between a person's thoughts and their intent God's word is able to penetrate to the heart of a person and cause a change Unlike a physical sword that causes scars, God’s sword heals emotional scars "Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart,” Acts 2:37 Simply meaning they knew it was true The living word is quick and can change a person in an instant A two-edged sword is considered dangerous because it can cut the person using it just as easily as the person they are using it against When the Bible is used as a weapon to point out the flaws in another person, the person using it often finds himself convicted by the same word His word exposes and judges His word goes deeper into our hearts than we can go ourselves It’s impossible for a Cardiac Surgeon to operate on himself! “For it is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret, But when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible,” Ephesians 5:12-13 His word does surgery on the depths of our thoughts and intentions God in His mercy,

The stronger we grow in faith and the more we are in His word the more we desire to change He changes our heart His plan is for us to grow and mature in His word so we are quick to lay our sin nature down just by a whisper from His Holy Spirit His word is the source of the greatest love, peace, joy, and freedom that we can know in this life It hurts for a moment but sets us free forever His word brings you to the greatest humility through seeing the depths of our corruption His word heals us and restores His nature in us.

When we read the Bible with a desire to know what His word has for us, we cannot escape conviction. His word challenges us to examine the things we dwell on God desires our moral truths to be consistent with His Word Don’t resist the correction of the Bible, the light of God’s Word will expose and convict so we can become more like Him When the book of Hebrews was written, the church faced a very strong possibility of persecution. The author was warning them about the temptation to deny their faith so that they could live more comfortably It’s a tough world out there today, and the church faces persecution just as it was then Our culture demands us to be politically correct instead of Jesus correct and co-exist in this world with evil The path of a Christian disciple can be treacherous But, the same Word that confronted the church during the times of the New Testament is the same, unchanging, infallible Word that confronts us today It is living, it is active and it is convicting God’s word is alive and it does what He has set it to do; bring Him honor and change us to be more Christ like so we can be a witness of His great love His word is the Truth and will always remain the same His word is timeless It will never be “out of touch” with today’s society Today’s society is out of touch with God’s Word There are many Christians who do not read their Bible or they read their Bible to decide what they will and will not believe It is ALL His word, inspired by His Holy Spirit The Old Testament warns; “Do not add to what I command you and do not subtract from it, but keep the commands of the LORD your God that I give you,” Deut 4:2 and in the New testament “And if anyone takes away from the words of this prophetic book, God will take away his share of the tree of life and the holy city, written in this book,” Revelations 22:19

As I study and research for this column I am always convicted by the words I read I’ve read the Bible from cover to cover many times in my life I can’t stand to watch a movie twice unless it’s been a lifetime ago! But I crave more of

God’s word and I always learn something new, something that I never put together in the same way, something that God exposes to me and also things He has brought me through that I can give Him all the praise for

“Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and every expression of evil, and humbly receive the word planted in you, which can save your souls Be doers of the word, and not hearers only Otherwise, you are deceiving yourselves For anyone who hears the word but does not carry it out is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like,” James 1:21-24

When are plastic items not ordinary? When they are made of Bakelite or Catalin These early extraordinary plastic items are highly sought by collectors After more than 30 years of collecting objects made by one or the other of these companies, I still find it is almost impossible to tell the difference between unmarked Bakelite and Catalin objects

A short history lesson: Dr Leo Hendrick Baekeland patented Synthetic Resin Bakelite in 1907 This resinous material was produced in black, brown, butterscotch, yellow, green, blue, and red Omitting the pigment produce a transparent or translucent effect often called apple juice Made from formaldehyde and carbolic acid (phenol), Bakelite would not dissolve in any solvent, was acid proof, and a poor conductor of electricity

For the first 10 years or so the resin was used primarily to make electrical and automobile insulators and heavy industrial products. Then novelty and jewelry makers purchased tubes or blocks of the material to be carved into bracelets, scent bottles, flatware, napkin rings, and a myriad other household and personal products

In 1930, the Catalin Corporation perfected a more highly refined phenol formaldehyde. Using a cast resin formula enabled Catalin to add 15 colors to the original Bakelite colors, as well as the now famous marbleized effect The clock in the photo has this marbleized effect The Catalin Corporation is responsible for nearly 70 percent of all phenolic resins that exist today By the mid1940s, Lucite and Plexiglas had entered the market and underpriced and outdated Bakelite and Catalin as the plastic of choice

Unless you want to have a chemical analysis performed, I wouldn’t; be too concerned with the composition or whether some object is Bakelite or Catalin Most dealers/collectors use the generic term Bakelite for all these items, and I would bet that most of them couldn’t tell the difference

Prices have skyrocketed since the 1970s and 1980s A bracelet that once cost $2 00 in 1934 today may cost as much as $300.00.
