through 2014 Not only did Howe's 38-13 win over Bowie send echoes throughout North Texas that the 'Dogs weren't down this year, but with Gunter's 37-21 win over Pottsboro Friday night, it sent a message that maybe the drubbing by Gunter wasn't as bad as it may have seemed

The Bulldogs won the toss and deferred to the second half giving Bowie the early start on offense But Howe quickly held the Jackrabbits to a punt and the 'Dogs took the ball at their own 29 yard line with 9:59 left in the first quarter The 71-yard drive ended over four minutes later when Brent Master got a great block from Tyler Grisham that sprung him 30 yards for the game's first score Howe led 7-0 after Brice Honaker's PAT

Bowie's next possession would end on a Cooper Akins interception that gave Howe the ball at the Bowie 30 yard line The Bulldogs took advantage of the short field and Grisham would eventually score from a 3-yard touchdown continued on page 2

City seeking grant for new park

A plan for a park that has been in the works for many years is once again being dusted off and tried again The first attempt at creating a city-owned park in the 45 acres southeast of downtown took place back in 1972 but never materialized Another attempt took place eleven years ago and great efforts were made by the Powell and Sollis families among others

Back in 2005, then Howe City Councilman Brian Ross stated to the the Herald Democrat that the city and administration were working on building the Casey and Dot Jones Memorial Park on the 45 acres of land that the city purchased in 1999 The property is located at the east end of Davis Street, east of the railroad tracks

Back in 2005, dirt work for walking trails were offered as donation from those interested in seeing the park come to fruition Plans for the park in 1972 included a public pool, two youth ballfields, tennis courts and a full size track. The plans in 2005 did not include a public pool, track, or tennis courts But when the global housing crisis did a major number on the City of Howe in 2007, all plans for the park were lost and the city went into financial survival mode and even found themselves with a new mayor and new city administrator in 2008 continued on page 3 with 2:25 remaining in the first quarter After Honaker's PAT, Howe led 14-0

Bowie would start their next possession at their own 36 yard line and would march the field The eventual 64-yard drive started in the first quarter and finished in the second with a 10-yard touchdown run by Jackrabbit quarterback

Brandon Hutto Overall, it took only 3:42 to narrow Howe's lead to 14-7

Howe's next possession saw the punt team on the field for the first time since the Gunter special teams woes Brandon Wall came out and booted a 24-yard punt out of bounds and Bowie took possession at the Howe 48 yard line Bowie would also be forced to punt which gave the 'Dogs the ball at their own 33 yard line with 8:30 left before the half. The 67-yard drive would end 6:01 later when Jaden Matthews scored his first touchdown of the night, a 2-yarder that gave Howe a 21-7 lead with 2:29 until intermission

Bowie spent the remaining two minutes burning their timeouts, Howe's timeouts and eventually the first half clock Howe went to the locker room with a 21-7 lead

With Howe deferring to the second half, Matthews wasted no time getting things going in the second half The kickoff bounced past him where he retrieved it back at the 16 yard line From there he raced up the far sideline, south to north, for the 84-yard touchdown

Honaker's PAT gave the 'Dogs the 28-7 lead with just :16 run off the clock in the second half

The Howe defense continued their dominance on Bowie's first possession forcing a punt which gave the Bulldogs the ball at their own 41 yard line at the 10:36 mark Mason Riggs got the ball on an end-around and would throw the ball down the field which appeared to be intercepted by the Jackrabbits, however Howe receiver Ty Harvey took the ball away from him for a 22-yard gain continued on page 4
