Coming to Howe in 1940 as a fourth-grader, Mr. Poljak began his long association with Howe Military School. While in Lower School he was named outstanding lower cadet and received the All Points Cup. Athletics has played a major role in his life. While at Howe, he participated in football, basketball, and baseball. He received the outstanding athletic cup, as well as having the honor of serving as captain of the 1948 football team. In his upper school days Mr. Poljak was voted "most trustworthy" cadet. He was also commander of the Iron Guard, and president of his freshman and sophomore classes. Upon graduation in 1949, he achieved the rank of captain and was "C" Company Commander.
Mr. Poljak earned his B. S. degree from Ball State University and his M. S. degree from Indiana University. Between 1953 and 1956 he served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force. In 1956 Mr. Poljak returned to Howe in the capacity of a math teacher and coach in the lower school. Moving to the teaching staff of the upper school in 1965 he has since taught math, been a summer camp counselor, coached varsity football and basketball. He is currently the varsity baseball coach and head of the math department. Among his other honors, the Howe baseball field was dedicated to him. We, the class of 1976, would like to honor Mr. Poljak for his lasting devotion to Howe by dedicating this year's Tatler to him.

Through th e rigors of the past years, the senior cadets have been handed th e types of responsibilities which will eventually confront them in life. They have learned to accept their trials with an understanding that has become a part of their nature.
The class of 1976 has been presented with the tools by which to build the edifice of their dreams and prophecies. With justifiable optimism, the alumni and present members of the Cadet Corps will continue to have faith in Howe's tradition of building men for God and country.
5
The goals have been achieved and the graduates of 1976 have been deposited on the ''Road of Life." Supported by all the benefits which an education offers, each graduate has been given the found a ti on necessary to gain prominence in life.

Reflections of a Howe Cadet Graduating
I removed my class ring and looked at it. Its importance wasn't just the gold or th e ruby, not even the d e tail e d work. My six years at How e , intrinsically unit e d in that simple ring, enhanced its value in my eyes. The problems that arose, the good tim es , the many fri e nds, some mor e clearly re m e mb e red than others, are all symbolized in that simple ring. It is difficult to ex plain the change that one special day, graduation, will reaffirm. Play time is over and big chances and big ger c hang es li e ahead. Ne w fri e nds, new problems, new good times will all b e waiting. Life wasn't bad at How e. Some graduates insist that they will n ever b e back and that they don't care what happens to How e I'll remember and I'll be back The fate and futur e of a school which holds such a large and important part of my life concerns m e. At How e I l earned so many lessons that went beyond pure academics: like the bas ic principle of life, that of living with others harmoniously, and the responsibility of a leader and a friend. I love How e . I know that many others do also. Cad ets may not agr ee on all issues and answers; but we know that our school can nev e r be forgotten. How e has a special significance; for it is h e r e that we have lost our childhood and gained our maturity. Years after graduating, sp ec ific m e mories will bec om e dim. But I will always have my class ring to spark my imagination and memories of Howe.

Vaudeville Show
On th e night of November 14 the Howe cadets pr esented a vaudeville show for rh e corps, faculty and administration. The show consisted of ever ything from very funny sk its to very serious vocal numbers.

Queen Chris, her court and escorts , were the first ones through the receiving line. After the band played, presentations we re made. Dave Case started off by announcing that "F" Company was the winner of the living quarters decoration contest and mentioned that the selection committ ee was impressed with the display in the Lower School barracks.
Ron Johnson was next up to the mike, informing all that "F" Company had also won the float contest. Ron then presented the Queen, her court and her escorts as they walked down the center of the dance no·or to the mid-stages area where Chris was presented roses and a gift from the V. H. C. They proceeded to the lounge where pictures were taken. Then onto the floor for some enjoyable music and dancing. The turnout of cadets, parents, faculty, alumni and guests seemed larger than in past years.

This club is oniy the starting block for two other clubs the Century Club and the Bicentennial Club. To make it into the Century Club a cadet must accumulate more than 100 miles via the six miles a day. The ultimate goal of all m em be rs is to be long to the Bic e nt e nnial Club which is 200 miles, by July 4, 1976.
