A restored classic caravan is helping the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu to engage with the local community. The ‘Chatty Caravan’ – otherwise known as ‘Caravan for the Community’ - is a small but perfectly formed 1971 Sprite 400, and a time capsule of fab 70s styling. This joyful, mobile outreach space enables the museum’s Learning team to take to the road to promote their National Lottery Heritage Fund project ‘My Generation’.
The project seeks to engage with people of all ages, especially with those for whom a visit to the museum is perhaps not possible, to create a community archive. The aim of the ‘Chatty Caravan’ is to help inspire conversations, memories and stories linked to journeys and the social history of motoring. Having recently been showcased at a 75th Sprite Anniversary Rally event at Beaulieu’s Spring Autojumble and ‘BrockFest’ at Brockenhurst College, the caravan will be out and about this year visiting a range of community settings
BEAULIEU

including a summer tour of Hampshire libraries and reminiscence visits to local care homes.
The visits are made possible with thanks to the generous support of Suzuki UK who have loaned the National Motor Museum team a Suzuki S-Cross car to tow the caravan. The car was kindly delivered by Alan Honour and Paul Quartermaine of Suzuki UK and features printed branding from Thurston, based in Holbury. The bright ‘chatty’ design on the vehicle raises awareness of the project. To hear tales from ‘Chatty Caravan’ and to follow its journey head to @chatty_caravan on Instagram.
These community initiatives form part of a wider ‘Ages of Motoring’ National Lottery Heritage Fund project which will see exciting transformations in the museum at Beaulieu over the next year.

On Thursday 5th June at the beautiful Somerley House, Lewis-Manning Hospice Care hosted their Venetian Masquerade Ball. It was a fantastic and memorable evening.
Thanks to phenomenal support, the event raised funds to cover a nurse for one year, delivering compassionate hospice care to local people in our community when they need it most.
CEO Clare Gallie said: “Your support means we can continue to help local people to live well through their illnesses, as well as alleviate the huge pressures on families, carers and NHS services. Our patients, families, volunteers and staff are so grateful for your generous support.”
Thank you to generous event sponsors Meridien Modena, Midas Prosecco, Lester Aldridge, MSP Capital and Mauveworx.

Prama’s Care team work hard all year round, providing the best possible domiciliary care to clients across Bournemouth, Christchurch, Poole and East Dorset. A great deal of work goes on behind the scenes in scheduling, managing and supporting the core care team, to ensure consistent and reliable care is provided to all their clients every day.
On Friday 13th June, Prama celebrated each and every one of them by hosting the PramaCare awards which was held at the beautiful Upton Bay Care HomeHamworthy. There were five main award categories in total, of which nominees were selected not only by the Prama team but also by some of the clients they care for.
It was an emotional event with some beautiful and heartfelt comments, read by Donna Palmer, Prama’s Registered Manager, about the dedication and hard work of the finalists. The winners were then officially announced by Prama Trustee, David Cawdery, Managing Director Hazel McAtackney and High Sheriff Callum Bremner JP.
Huge congratulations to the incredible winners who were presented with a personalized Prama trophy; Tracey Cane, Inna Taranets, Nora Balog, Nicola Patnell and Vaclav Kiraly.

The show will go on as popular community music event, Jurassic Fields Festival has been saved from certain closure.
The three-day live music show at West Bay Fields, near Bridport, will go ahead over the weekend of Friday 8 to Sunday 10 August with a full bill of chart topping headline acts confirmed including Reef, Space, Republica, Toploader, Artful Dodger and the welcome return of hit band The Hoosiers who didn’t perform in 2023 due to bad weather.
The festival has been bought by Dorsetbased company Immense Events and Bars Ltd, who have run the successful Poole Harbour Festival for ten years, as well as events at other venues including Upton Country Park and Poole Quay.
“Having attended Jurassic Fields several times in recent years, I know how important the festival is and that it’s a much-loved part of West Dorset’s vibrant live music scene,” says Immense MD Ben Dyas.
“So many festivals have folded over the last couple of years so when we heard Jurassic Fields was facing the end of the road we just had to step in and save it. We’ve booked some phenomenal bands to headline, as well
as top DJs including Brandon Block, Nicky Blackmarket and Jaguar Skills, with some of the best UK tribute bands to ensure a broad appeal to as wide an audience as possible.
“We’ve also saved lots of slots on the bill for local bands, artists and DJs – so local music will still be at the heart of Jurassic Fields, and we want to hear from anyone who wants to play.”
Bands, singers and DJs who would like to be considered for a place on the bill at the reinvigorated Jurassic Fields should contact info@jurassicfieldsfestival.com.
“We really wanted to re-engage with local music lovers and make the festival accessible to everyone,” adds Ben. “That’s why we have greatly reduced ticket prices, introduced discounted family tickets and brought in loads more kids’ entertainment – Jurassic Fields will have music for all the family. It will be the live music event of the year!”
A free shuttle bus will transport local festival goers from Bridport, Bradpole and Bothenhampton to the festival site at West Bay Fields where on-site camping is also available.
It’s like Glastonbury on your doorstep, one of the south’s biggest and busiest summer music festivals, Poole Harbour Festival is expecting bumper crowds this year with a stellar line up.
Boasting 60 acts across five stages – the most in the festival’s ten-year history – the three-day party on Baiter Park in Poole is expected to attract some 15,000 visitors across the weekend with headline acts including British reggae legends UB40, multi-platinum pop punk heroes Feeder and notorious indie survivors Happy Mondays.
The bill also includes influential American art rockers We Are Scientists, British dance originals Dub Pistols and a very welcome return to Poole Harbour Festival for chart toppers The Hoosiers and N-Trance, not to mention Europe’s number one party band The Vengaboys!
For those who like to get their groove on, Poole Harbour Festival is a magnet for top DJs clubbing pioneers like Judge Jules, Dave Pearce and PHF regular Brandon Block on the bill alongside rising star Woody Cook, son of Fatboy Slim and Zoe Ball, megaselling DJ Sash!, ground breaking trance act Thrillseekers and hard house duo Tidy Boys. There’s even a set from renowned Fatboy Slim tribute act Fatboy Tim, the original Rockerfella Prankster fully endorsed by none other than Norman Cook himself.
It might be the biggest yet, but Poole Harbour Festival hasn’t forgotten its roots and includes a full programme of live music talent from the BCP region on the Big Top Stage and the new fifth stage, the Smugglers Inn, with the ever-popular Mother Ukers on show alongside fans’ favourites like Mischa & His Merry Men, guitar virtuoso Chris Payn, Sixteen String Jack, Lady Winwood’s Maggot and Saints of Sin; as well as top tributes to the likes of Queen, Elton John, Abba and The Prodigy.
Add to that the festival’s famous familyfriendly atmosphere – there are daily kids’ entertainers, walkabout performances, circus skills workshops, dinosaur shows and activities – as well as a pocket-friendly pricing structure and Poole Harbour Festival delivers all the ingredients to kick start a fabulous summer by the sea. On Friday 6 June, Diverse Abilities, Dorset’s Disability Charity, hosted their first Country Roots event at The Treehouse to raise vital funds for Lily’s Place and The Treehouse.
The event was a celebration of country with line dancing, a bucking bronco, food stalls from Pizza with Love and Chicken & Blues and live music from The Wild Ones.
STARS Dorset has launched a new branded van to support its campaign to reduce sexual violence and raise awareness of the support available to those affected.
The van, funded by Dorset Council’s Community Safety Partnership, will enable the charity’s engagement team to attend numerous community events across the Dorset Council area over the coming months and raise awareness about sexual violence support services.
STARS Dorset is a pan-Dorset charity offering specialist support to individuals affected by sexual violence. The new van had its official debut at the Poundbury Summer Festival on June 8th, held at The Great Field. The festival was a family-friendly event celebrating the local community and provided a fitting platform to launch this important outreach initiative.
STARS www.starsdorset.org
The van will allow STARS Dorset to bring its services directly into Dorset’s rural communities—areas where access to specialist support is often limited. By taking their message and services on the road, the charity aims to break down barriers to support, reduce stigma, reduce isolation, encourage conversations around the issue of sexual violence and increase awareness about available services.
The van is a key part of STARS Dorset’s mission to reduce sexual violence across the county by increasing awareness, encouraging disclosures, and connecting people to essential services.
For more information about STARS Dorset and their services, or how you can support the charity through volunteering, please visit www.starsdorset.org, email info@ starsdorset.org, or call 01202 308840.

Robert McLean from The British Property Awards said “Our awards have been specifically designed to be attainable to all agents, removing common barriers to entry, such as cost, to ensure that we have the most inclusive awards. Our awards have also been designed to remove any opportunity for bias or manipulation. If an agent has been attributed with one of our awards, it is simply down to the fantastic customer service levels that they have demonstrated across a prolonged period of time. Winning agents should be proud that their customer service levels provide a benchmark for their local, regional and national competition”.

We are in the final stages of the Renters Rights Bill (RRB)and we are also approaching summer Parliamentary Recess!! Presently the timelines are for the House of Lords report stage and 3rd Reading for final debate and amendments is scheduled for 1-15th July. We will then only have 7 days before recess for Royal Assent to be granted. It will be interesting to see if the timelines fit in, for possible implementation after October.
Why you should be looking at a rent guarantee on your tenant Move On are pleased to announce they have upgraded their Rental Warranty in anticipation of the Renters Rights Bill. Not only will it still include paying any rent arrears and legal costs to evict a tenant it will also cover additional benefits. Here are just a few of the additions.
• Paying the rent increase if the tenant disputes and goes to First Teir Tribunal and they side with the landlord’s increase
• Paying the rent in advance on month one if the tenant does not pay and the RRB states no rent can be taken in advance (prior to move in).
• If tenant is evicted will pay 75% of the rent for a further 30 days.
• If a tenant refuses to move out and the landlord is homeless they will pay £175 per night for a hotel up to 90 days.
• Pay the landlord storage in the event of homelessness at £15 per night.
Sanctions and PEPS
Since the 14th May 2025, all landlords and tenants must now be checked against the UK’s Financial Sanctions list and be checked on a regular basis. Non-compliance will lead to serious financial penalties and legal action.
This is due to rental properties linked to money laundering or support criminal activities.
Update on proposed EPC rules
Key Changes and Proposed Deadlines:
• Current Minimum: The current minimum EPC rating for rental properties is E.
• 2028: All new tenancies will need to have a minimum EPC rating of C or higher.
CONTACT
01202 711169
Sharon@moveon.biz
• 2030: All existing tenancies will need to have a minimum EPC rating of C or higher.
• Potential Fine: Failure to comply with the new regulations could result in a fine of up to £30,000 per property.
Landlords who fail to comply could face fines of up to £30,000 per property. The government is also consulting on reforms to the EPC system itself, potentially changing how EPCs are assessed and introducing new metrics.
A former estate agent was sentenced to 4 years and 4 months in a London court for swindling over £200,000 out of prospective tenants for advertising properties on Rightmove for long term lets on 12 months tenancy with 25% up front. Unfortunately, the properties were being let as Airbnb, leaving the applicants homeless and considerably out of pocket.
An offer of advice
It’s clear that the lettings industry is undergoing significant changes, and staying ahead of the curve is becoming more difficult for landlords managing properties on their own. The proposed reforms, alongside the growing complexity of legal requirements, make it increasingly important for landlords to seek expert advice and services.
A single fine from the council for one breach will be £7,000 and can be £40,000 as well as a criminal conviction. Navigating the ever-changing regulations, will be a lot more difficult.
The team at Move On are committed to continuous learning and monitoring industry updates shows the value of professional property management. For landlords, that peace of mind and expertise can be incredibly valuable.

Ice cream shades and warm tones inspire seasonal schemes, says Sam Wylie-Harris.
With gardens coming into full bloom, peony season peaking, and window boxes looking their most ebullient, filling our homes with colour sets the tone for decorative makeovers.
As Georgina Tarn, interior design manager at City & Country, puts it: “The transition from spring into summer is all about renewal and growth.
“Pastel colours such as soft pinks, mint greens, buttery yellows and sky blues naturally evoke a fresh, airy feeling people crave long after winter is over.”
Moreover, a pretty pastel palette has the power to transform a room when you let your primary shade take the lead, and complement it with a versatile neutral and warm brown hue.
Perfectly placed, with Pantone Colour of the Year being Mocha Mousse, Tarn says the transition into summer is the perfect time to incorporate this evocative soft brown.
Especially if you’re after an accent colour. “Mocha Mousse reflects the importance of ‘little treat’ culture,” suggests Tarn.

“The deliciousness of the colour suggests a refreshing coffee drink, or flavour of soft serve ice cream – and by association, evokes a mood of contentment and balance.”
Great for creating a calm, peaceful atmosphere ideal for kitchens, bedrooms, nurseries or reading nooks, she says using a pastel palette captures light-enhancing tones –perfect for making small spaces feel open and airy.
“Not only do pastel tones bring a muted pop of colour, the pastel colour range is cleverly versatile complimenting a mix of neutrals, woods, metals, or even bolder accents if you want contrast,” suggests Tarn.
And when it comes to tying everything together, pastels are particularly effective with period features, says the designer. “The colours subtly draw attention to intricate features such as cornices, ceiling roses and crafted panelling, without overshadowing them.”
She continues: “A pastel palette has been utilised for centuries and historically, Victorians used a variety of pastel colours – soft sage greens, muted pinks and duck egg blues.”
By using pastels today, Tarn says the aesthetic is both modern and authentic, often echoing the spirit of the building’s original colour scheme.
“Pastel colours, especially when paired with traditional materials like plaster, wood, and stone, amplify the romance and elegance that period properties are known for.”

Tarn goes on to say pastels reflect light beautifully, making spaces feel larger, lighter, and more open. “Perfect for the energy shift that comes with the spring [and summer] season.”
When it comes to creating a consistent scheme, she says an effective way to refresh your surroundings is to accessorise the walls with light and airy artwork.
“Think beach scenes, abstract watercolours, or minimal line art,” suggests Tarn. “Don’t be afraid to introduce cushions and throws with playful patterns – stripes, gingham, or botanical prints feel very seasonal.
“Add artificial or fresh flowers, green plants, or even a little herb garden on a windowsill – try eucalyptus, peonies, tulips, or wildflowers for that soft seasonal look.”
Remember, designing your home is all about balancing function, comfort and your personal style, advises Tarn.
“Whether you’re taking on a full remodel or simply refreshing a room, let trends inspire you, but always incorporate your personal style and identity.
“That’s how you create a space that feels like home,” says Tarn. “A sanctuary that goes beyond just aesthetics.”

A multi-million dollar renovation of the Tierra Atacama hotel has transformed one of the driest places on earth into a high-end destination.
Rising in a perfect pyramid between the borders of Chile and Bolivia, the Licancabur volcano is a marvel to behold from every angle.
Ancient civilisations would make pilgrimages to its crater to perform rituals and communicate with their ancestors. But even from afar, its magical pull is hard to resist.
The Andean giant is a focal point for guests staying at Tierra Atacama, recently revamped following a $20 million refurbishment.
Located in San Pedro de Atacama, the gateway to otherworldly landscapes and geological wonders in northern Chile’s highland desert region, the luxury hotel mixes exhilarating adventures with comfort and relaxation.
Here’s why the new look property is one of the smartest and most refreshing places to stay in one of the driest places on earth.
The look and feel
Decked in wood and warm colours, rooms have the feel of a cosy cabin. Working with the property’s original footprint, built on a former cattle corral, designer Carolina Delpiano has created the perfect sanctuary for relaxation after a day of adventure.
All rooms feature thoughtful touches ranging from aesthetic to practical – including artwork inspired by the cosmos and handy humidifiers to combat the Atacama’s dry air.
Promising to be the most luxurious accommodation in the region, Tierra’s four new suites are works of beauty. An ethanol-powered fireplace suspended from the ceiling begs to be lit even on warm nights, creating a soothing and welcoming space.
An outdoor patio with plunge pool also features a popup fireplace, with views facing Licancabur volcano.
A pergola can be closed for shade during the day or opened to reveal stars at night.
In the main dining area, black wooden ceilings replicate a dark sky, and a floor paved with Travertine marble –all sourced from a local quarry – was inspired by the region’s famous gleaming white salt flats.

A new suite at Tierra Atacama | Tierra/PA
Although overshadowed by its neighbours, Chilean cuisine is having a moment and Tierra’s chefs do a fantastic job of showcasing the bright, zingy and refreshing flavours which characterise dishes.
Endemic to the Andean altiplano, aromatic shrub rica rica makes an appearance in ice cream and cocktails along with the sweet caramel-like fruit from chanar trees.
Every few days, a barbecue is prepared outdoors and served on a long table crafted with wood reclaimed from a sunken boat found in Chile’s Pucon region. A large stone oven is used to prepare pizzas which would easily get the thumbs up from an Italian.
Although wines and spirits form part of the menu, a good selection of mocktails makes it much easier to reduce alcohol intake and boost hydration – recommended for avoiding headaches and sickness at Atacama’s giddy high altitudes.
Spa and wellness
Dry air and hot temperatures can wreak havoc on the body, but endless space and big horizons make desert regions the perfect place to unwind.
Meaning ‘water’ in the local Aymara language, the onsite Uma spa is an oasis of pools, hot tubs and hydrotherapy stations – including the only indoor heated pool in the region – all fed by the property’s onsite well. To combat water wastage, all grey water is recycled and used in the gardens.
Alongside a menu of treatments, the spa also offers a selection of rituals and journeys. A steam room session, facial and massage are combined with cryotherapy – a new addition to the spa.
The culmination of a relaxing two-hour session topped with a touch of meditation and breathwork, immersion in
an ice bath on an outdoor terrace is the ideal solution for easing tired and swollen limbs while also attacking cellulite.
The hotel’s head gardener doubles as a yoga teacher offering daily classes. Promising a calming of the mind and connection with the surroundings, two-hour nature bathing sessions are also held onsite.
Star-studded attractions
At night, skies above San Pedro explode with a glittering array of constellations. Most hotels offer trips to external observatories, but Tierra has gone one step further by setting up a scope in their spacious light pollution-free backyard.
Wrapped in blankets, guests can sit in an amphitheatre with a glass of Carmenere while listening to experts share scientific facts about space along with entertaining stories. Best of all, it won’t take you lightyears to get to bed.
Outdoor adventure
Opportunities for adventure are endless in Atacama, but navigating local regulations, avoiding crowds and managing acclimatisation to high altitudes does require careful consideration.
All guests have the chance to plan a personal itinerary with Tierra’s guiding team and join group tours. Anyone staying in the suites or apartments has access to a personal guide and driver, allowing greater flexibility for timings and more opportunities for spontaneous detours.
Highlight activities include treks through the cactistrewn Guatin Gatchi Valley, sunset at the Cejar Lagoon and an early morning expedition to see the steaming Tatio Geysers.
Rooms start from £1,385 per night for two people, including transfers, accommodation, all meals, open bar, daily excursions, use of Uma spa facilities. Book through tierrahotels.com or with IATA accredited specialist tour operators.

More than £121k has been raised to support a ‘hero’ police officer dismissed without notice following his arrest of a teenager carrying a knife.
Lorne Castle had an exemplary record throughout his decade-long career with Dorset Police, winning awards for his exceptional service and bravery – including risking his life to save a vulnerable elderly woman from drowning in a swollen River Avon at Christchurch last year.
But the 46-year-old was dismissed without notice by Dorset Police after a disciplinary panel ruled he used unreasonable force during the arrest of a 15-year-old boy in Bournemouth town centre in January 2024. The teen, who was wearing a mask to hide his identity, was suspected of assaulting two people – a 14-year-old and an elderly man - and was found to be carrying a dualbladed knife.
Thousands show their support
The gross misconduct dismissal of exPC Lorne Castle has provoked a wave of criticism towards Dorset Police and an outpouring of support for Mr Castle.
A GoFundMe page, launched by retired Temporary Chief Inspector Chris Amey, has seen thousands contribute to help the former PC and his family, with donations ranging from a few pounds to £10,000. In just over two weeks, the site raised more than £121,000, with more people logging in daily to give money.
Mr Amey, who had a 30-year police career, first met Lorne in 2013 when looking for individuals to become Community Safety Accredited Officers to patrol a problematic area of Boscombe in Bournemouth as part of a privately funded initiative to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour.
He writes: “His aptitude and enthusiasm was such that I recommended he became a Police Officer. I oversaw his training as both a PCSO and Police Constable and he was a dedicated and exemplary officer throughout.”
An exemplary career shattered Lorne was twice awarded a Commanders Commendation and, in 2021, was named Dorset Police’s officer of the year due to his ‘outstanding service’ and ‘personal commitment to make a difference and do the right thing.’ In 2024 he received the highest accolade from the Humane Society for his brave rescue of an elderly woman from the River Avon.
But his career came to an inglorious end at a three-day hearing in early June, after a complaint against PC Castle was made internally – it did not come from the public, the knife-carrying youth or his family.
A Dorset Police disciplinary panel found that PC Castle failed to act with self-control and did not treat the boy with ‘courtesy or respect’. It ruled that his shouting, swearing, finger-pointing, taking hold of the boy’s face and throat, and suggested use of leg restraints were not necessary, reasonable or proportionate.
It has emerged that his arrest of the teenager came after an early morning briefing to the officer to be extra cautious due to a mass brawl in the town centre just two nights before - a brawl involving youths with machetes and knives.
Mr Castle later told the BBC: “At the time, I was panicking, I was scared... There was fear of the unknown, fear of the people around.”
Dorset Police said no further action was taken against the teenager arrested by PC Castle in respect of the reported assaults. The youth was issued with an out-of-court disposal for possessing the knife.
A devastating impact
Mr Castle, a father-of-three, has spoken in the media about feeling ‘really let down’ by Dorset Police, and how the decision had left him in a ‘very dark place’ with ‘no job, a family to look after and no job prospects.’
“To lose your job, career, future and security overnight is unthinkable,” writes Mr Amey on the GoFundMe page, adding: “I believe the public feel just as angry, hurt and frustrated over this as Lorne does. I gauge that by the numbers coming forward to support him. I’ve not seen one negative comment aimed at Lorne but conversely plenty at Dorset Police.”
Hundreds have left messages on the on the page. Their words of support include: “Lorne the country needs more officers like you, but we really don’t deserve officers like you.”
“You are the kind of good copper we all want and yet as you have found to your personal cost, we are being denied.”
“It’s people like you that are prepared to risk yourself daily to try to stop these crimes - you should be commended, not the opposite.”
And, “Thank you, Lorne, for your brave actions to protect the public from a teenager with a knife. The Dorset Police Force should be ashamed of the way they have treated you.”
In response, Mr Castle himself wrote: “I am absolutely in awe of the support and wonderful comments that this GoFundMe has brought in. I can’t express my thanks enough - every donation and every message means so much to me and my family.”
Mr Castle is faced with loss of income, loss of pension, a loss of direction and a very many personal challenges to overcome. The former PC is now looking to appeal the misconduct panel’s decision to ‘clear his name’ although he has said he wouldn’t be able to work in the police again after the way he had been treated.
But his sense of duty remains – Within weeks of his dismissal, he stopped a suspected shoplifter who ran into him leaving a store at Castlepoint, successfully detaining him until police arrived.
Chris Amey, who shared the story on social media, offered a message to Dorset Police: “Are you sure you made the right decision?… He’s not even working for you anymore but he’s still preventing crime.”

Picture this: you’re an intrepid tenant (or landlord) embarking on The Great British Rental Adventure. You ring up a lettings agent—cue ominous hold music, confusing legal jargon, and the vague sense you’ve accidentally agreed to adopt a llama. Sounds dreadful, right?
Enter Camerons Lettings, Bournemouth’s cheeky, human-sized answer to letting chaos. These folks tout themselves as “refreshingly honest and realistic about properties to rent”—and it’s no empty sales pitch. From day one they promise clarity, transparency, and, most unusually, a sense of humour when explaining tenancy agreements (without the legal mumbo jumbo that makes your brain go “Er…”).
Regulation wrangling, made easy
Let’s be real: UK lettings regs are like a labyrinth that only a Minotaur with an A-level in Property Law can navigate. Camerons simplify all that. Their “Advice for Tenants” and “Advice for Landlords” pages are a godsend—explaining deposits, references, right-to -rent checks, and safety certificates in plain English. Want to know why your gas safety cert is vital? Or who’s responsible if the loo decides to stage a revolt? Camerons demystify it all.

Tailored treasure‑hunting
Whether you’re after a cosy flat near the beach, a family space near schools, or a quirky house-share in Charminster, these are the people to call. They pop the kettle on, listen to your wishlist (parking: essential; garden: optional; unicorn stable: sadly non- existent), and go fetch the right keys.
No awkward viewings where you realise the bed barely fits a hamster, let alone you.
Maintenance heroes
Moved in? Great—but if your boiler throws a tantrum or your taps start doing a Jackson Pollock impression, Camerons send friendly engineers faster than you can say “damp!” They pride themselves on prompt fixes and happy tenants. Plus, they’re so client-friendly that a chunk of their new business comes from recommendations— aka word- of-mouth.
In summary
Camerons Lettings is for people who’d rather plan their move with laughter and clarity, not frantic Google translations of legalese. They’re honest, helpful, quirky, and real—just like a mate who shows you round a new flat.
So if you’re in Bournemouth and keen to rent—or rent out—a property without wanting to random-walk into an endless forest of regulations, Camerons are your compass, your guide, and your friendly neighbour all rolled into one.
Pro tip: Keep calm and rent through Camerons—it’s a lifehack.

Major flower shows are now offering a wealth of creative ideas for houseplant lovers as well as gardeners who aspire to create their own outdoor personal show gardens.
People who don’t have an outdoor space can create spectacular indoor plantscapes, say award-winning mother-and-daughter team Nikki and Holly Barsby, founders of houseplant shop and consultation service In The Garden, whose recent indoor garden plantscape ‘A Feast Of Foliage’ won RHS Chelsea Gold in the houseplant and container gardening category, emphasising maximalist indoor landscapes style in a 360-degree immersive experience.
But how can beginners create an indoor space to rival outdoor show gardens?
Start with a pot of show-stopping succulents
“An amateur can start with one pot – right pot, right plant, right place,” says Holly. For an easy, low-maintenance display, you might pair Kalanchoe ‘Magic Bells’ with trailing succulents like string of beads (senecio) and echeveria.
“It might be a bright, indirect sunny hot environment and you can use any type of container. It requires a little water, which will soak in before it gets to the bottom,” says Nikki.
Go maximalist with your houseplants, experts suggest RIGHT

The pot doesn’t need holes as long as you don’t overwater it, she stresses. It may be wise to have a reservoir at the bottom to drain any excess water.
Consider air plants
“An air plant is even more low-maintenance,” says Holly. “Put it in a humid bathroom and it makes for good decor.”
Give it a bath once a week and make sure it is well-drained afterwards and that’s all you need to do, they advise.
Find the ideal spot
Do your research as to a suitable spot for your plants before you invest. “If you are forcing a plant because of the aesthetic and put it in the wrong position in terms of light, or draft, or temperature, then it’s not going to survive,” Holly warns.
While succulent containers won’t need drainage holes or much watering, plants including peace lilies (Spathiphyllum wallisii) will need regular watering.
You can keep it in its nursery pot and place that pot into your decorative container. When you water it, take the plant in its nursery pot to the sink, give it a good soak and let it drain.
Avoid moving happy plants
“If a plant seems happy in a place, don’t move it, even though sometimes the rules say that you should place it in a different spot. If it’s happy, leave it,” says Nikki.
Try layering for a maximalist effect
“Take into consideration the height, span, potential growth rate, leaf colour and texture and the size of the container you’re using,” says Holly.
Plant up one pot at a time and test how they look, moving them to assess which looks best where and build from there, she continues. There isn’t a hard and fast rule to placement, just go with your personal choice.

“From our perspective, if you’re looking at the aesthetics, I like a flow. So if you paired a palm with, say, a rubber plant, you have two very different leaves, but you can almost see through the palm to the broad leaves of the rubber plant.
“The growth rates are quite similar, but even if they weren’t – and you were thinking of budget – I’d go for one larger statement plant, individually planted or placed in a pot, and go for a smaller one placed on a plant stand, raising it up so you’re creating height that way,” Holly suggests.
Make a statement
“I wouldn’t be scared to go for a bigger statement plant,” says Holly. “I think they can sometimes be easier to look after than a tiny pot because the watering for the small pot can catch you out if it’s hot and it dries out quickly.”
Consider containers
Unless you have a statement container, make sure the plants remain the stars of the show, the pair advise. However, vintage and repurposed containers which have personality and create an aura can enhance a room’s aesthetics, they note.
Fill space with your style in mind
If you have a modern home, you may prefer one large standout plant to fill a space. If you have shelves to fill, you may want to go for a cluster of trailing plants. Fiddle leaf figs look great in minimalist interiors in a sunny position, while Strelitzia nicolai (white bird of paradise) has a broad leaf and is upright and simple looking, ideal for less busy environments, Holly suggests.
Go tropical
If you want a more tropical feel to your indoor space, look towards plants such as anthuriums, which offer splashes of tropical colour to bright, warm rooms and produce eye-catching flower-like ‘spathes’ in shades of red, orange, pink or white, atop glossy leaves.
You could also add trailing tradescantia to the mix, which provide good ground cover and come in a variety of colours, with variegated pink and purple leaves with green and white stripes and small flowers in a range of colours.
ABOVE

“Find plants which offer you different things, such as flowers, variegated leaves and different forms, then your look isn’t as linear and gives you potential seasonal interest,” suggests Holly.
Allow space to dodge your display Ideally, you don’t want to be brushing up against your plants, warns Nikki.
“Most plants don’t like to be brushed up against, or near a door where it’s draughty. The leaves get a bit bruised. If you have limited space, go for tall and slender plants, such as sansevieria, which are tough and will go with succulent plants like string of beads. Or in lower light you could do ZZ plants or aspidistras.”
Create climbing canopies
If you have a sunny spot, go for jasmine, which will provide both white flowers and intense scent, or devil’s ivy (also known as epipremnum or pothos), a self-clinging climber which will happily grow up poles or along shelving, and which you can get in variegated and heart-shaped leaf forms, which will grow in lower light, they suggest.

An interview with Laura Whitmore, starring as Rachel Watson in The Girl on the Train, coming to Mayflower Theatres, Southampton, from 22 to 26 July 2025.
What can audiences expect when they come to see the show?
It’s a great show for fans of the book, of course, and also for those who aren’t as familiar with the story because it’s a cracking thriller. There’s lots of twists and turns, visually it’s very clever, as is the staging, and you go on a journey with characters that you really care about. It’s a thrilling night out.
Who is Rachel and what is her role in the story?
When we first meet Rachel Watson she isn’t in a very good place. You see someone who appears to be a very vulnerable woman. But what we learn and unpack as the show goes on is that there’s a lot more to her. One of the big things about the show has to do with her memory - what she remembers and how she tries to fit all those pieces together. Her memory is kind of playing tricks on her and it’s like she’s piecing together a jigsaw puzzle.
Plotwise, she takes this journey on a train every day and it stops at the same place where she can see into people’s back gardens. It’s that natural thing where we look into people’s back gardens because we’re nosy or we imagine the lives those people are living. With Rachel, she becomes obsessed with a couple that she sees each day, then the girl in the couple goes missing.
What makes her such a juicy character to play?
As I said, you first meet this seemingly vulnerable woman but you soon realise that there’s a lot more strength there. There’s a lot of hope in her and the audience is rooting for her. Even though sometimes she seems a bit messy and she does things that are questionable and also questions herself, there is a likability to her as well. It’s such a meaty part to get into because there are so many layers to her. She can’t remember things, she has a drink problem, she has this ex-husband who she just can’t let go of, she’s obsessed with this couple and wishes she had the life they’re living... There’s so much to go at.
Were you already familiar with the Paula Hawkins novel on which the play is based?
I remember years ago my mum saying to me “Have you heard about this new Girl on the Train book by Paula Hawkins?” Everyone was talking about it, so I devoured it. I set my alarm early every morning so I could read a chapter before I got out of bed. It seemed like everyone was reading it at the time and [laughs] I remembered being on a train, reading the book and thinking “Oh, I’m a girl on a train reading The Girl on the Train!” It’s a brilliant book and Paula is a really gripping writer. Her characterisation is so good, on top of which there’s the plot and all the twists. It’s like once you’re on that train with these people you don’t want to get off.
Are there surprises in store for people who have read the book or seen the film version?
Well, it’s a different setting from the film, where the story was relocated to America. The stage version is much closer to the book but you’ve got the visuals and the sound, so you really feel immersed in the story. I love reading books where you can imagine things for yourself, but when you’re in a theatre with other people it brings a whole other level to it.
What challenges does playing a drunk present to you?
I also played a character last summer who had a drink problem, namely Lauren in 2:22 A Ghost Story [laughs]
so I feel like I might be being typecast at this stage. But I think most people who have a drink problem spend most of the time trying to hide the fact that they drink. So it’s more about disguising rather than showing that, because that’s what Rachel herself does.
Plus she’s a functional drunk; she’s piecing things together while she’s drinking that the detective can’t do while sober, although it does affect her memory and we see in the play how those memories come back together again.
You previously appeared in the thrillers Not Dead Enough and 2:22 A Ghost Story. Why do you think audiences are drawn to a good thriller on stage?
For one thing, there’s the word itself. Shows like this are a thrill. They’re about excitement and I am a huge fan of live theatre, just as I love live telly, because it’s all in-the-moment. With a thriller it’s about being part of that rollercoaster, that whodunit element, with all those twists and turns. I’m actually working on a documentary at the moment about true crime and sometimes fictional crime dramas are not too far off things that happen in real life. I think that’s another reason why so many people love thrillers, because they could happen. It’s that “There but for the grace of God...” thing. Plus everyone likes to play the detective, don’t they? You get to the interval and everyone’s chatting, going ‘Who do you think did it?’ I love that.
You came to fame as a radio and TV broadcaster, but was acting always part of the plan?
I studied drama and on my first audition in London, when I was about 18, I was down to the final few for a Channel 4 drama. I didn’t get the job so I went back to Ireland, did my degree in journalism and went down the presenting route, which I love too. I love storytelling in all its forms and I always said I wanted to get back into acting and balance the two. Now I get to indulge both of my passions.
What’s more nerve-wracking, playing a character or being yourself?
It’s interesting because you play different versions of yourself, I think. If I’m hosting a BBC radio show or I’m in a newsroom or presenting I’m a Celebrity I’m playing different versions of myself, because presenting it’s very different to presenting a documentary. They’re all me, they’re just different versions of me. It’s the same as playing a character, because you always draw on some of your own experiences. But it’s not nerve-wracking so much as exciting or thrilling or challenging.
What have been your favourite jobs over the years?
You never forget your first big job. I remember when I auditioned for MTV Europe. I won the competition to be the face of MTV when I was 22 or 23 and I moved to
London not knowing anyone there, then they sent me off to LA. I probably didn’t realise how big a deal it was, I remember just being like “This is fun!” I love filming but when it comes to live telly and live theatre they’re my favourite things to do. With filming you do something and it comes out a year later, but live stuff is immediate.
When you’re touring with a show is there anything you couldn’t be on the road without?
Well, it used to be my dog. When I last toured I brought him with me, but he refuses to go anywhere these days! I like to take my family with me whenever it’s workable to do so, but otherwise I travel quite light. I travel all the time for work between different countries and people probably think I take a lot of stuff with me but I’ve learned how to be a light traveller, how to keep it simple.
The tour calls at Southampton Mayflower. Does it have any significance for you?
I’ve played in Southampton before and on the podcast that I co-host, Murder They Wrote, we’ve been working on an episode about Southampton, looking at murders in the area. On a lighter note, Southampton’s fab. That last time I stayed there everyone was so friendly and I have a lot of family in that area as well.

From enduring Disney characters to heritageinspired schemes, nostalgia is a time-tested theme, says Sam Wylie-Harris.
One of the sweetest ways to get creative and switch up your kids’ bedroom is with a little artistic expression, vintage-inspired furnishings and timeless treatments.
The sort of things which evoke childhood memories, a comforting space with a backdrop to build on as your toddler grows up – and their bedroom starts to reflect the things they love most.
“What delights a toddler today may feel outgrown by the time they reach primary school age,” highlights Leah Aspinall, head of design at Blinds 2go.

“That’s why it’s best to create a timeless bedroom from the beginning, one that’s easy to change and adapt as little ones grow – one which embodies whimsy and fun, but responds to maturing and varying tastes too.”
Starting with neutral colours
The key to timeless design is a neutral base…
Choose walls, flooring, and large furniture items in classic, versatile colours such as soft whites, greys, warm beiges, and gentle pastels, suggests Aspinall.
“These tones create a calming environment and provide a blank canvas for colourful accents, like artwork and decorative touches, that can easily be changed over time,” she says. “Suiting little minds that have a new favourite obsession every other minute.”
Moreover, neutral doesn’t have to mean boring, says Aspinall. “It creates the perfect canvas for design that adapts and grows with your little one.”
Beginning with a neutral base also gives the flexibility to decorate with all manner of accessories. “Soft, versatile colours pair well with bolder tones and daring prints,” advises the designer. “Meaning you can be experiential with décor, without the upheaval of a whole room.”
Using enduring characters
Even as children grow, Disney characters remain steadfast favourites, highlights Aspinall. She says adding these beloved figures to bedroom décor is a great way to integrate pattern whilst ensuring timeless appeal.
Not only do these designs bring wonder and enchantment to a child’s bedroom with patterns which will grow with them, she says they seamlessly combine nostalgic playfulness with a delightful fairytale feel… reflecting the timeless appeal of Disney.

Indeed, Aspinall says pairing together window dressings such as its Disney Home x Sanderson range can be complemented with soft furnishings from Sanderson’s print archives – all of which are inspired by the same collection, drawing on more than 100 years of creative history.
Introducing a heritage aesthetic
Interior designer Abigail Coles-Tromans says: “There’s something truly magical about a heritage-inspired children’s bedroom – a beautiful way to weave storytelling, tradition and charm.
“As a designer and a mummy, I love creating rooms for small ones that feel grounded in history but still speak to the limitless and ageless imagination of a child –whatever the time of year.”
Think soft textures, hand-drawn wallpaper prints that tell a story of summer days out in the great British countryside, vintage-style iron beds, and heirloom textiles like a quilt made of sentimental cloths, or repurposed vintage furniture, suggests Coles-Tromans.
spaces evoke a sense of calm and nostalgia,” says the designer behind the House of Abigail, and working in collaboration with 247 Blinds for its children’s collection of window dressings. “Providing comfort and grounding whatever adventure the day has brought your little one’s way – heritage-inspired children’s rooms feel like any good childhood… lived-in and loved, not trend-led or fleeting.”
Mindful of longevity, she says a heritage aesthetic allows the space to evolve with the child. “If your child’s room isn’t overly ‘themed’ or juvenile, you allow for a scheme which grows with your child. A nostalgic hand drawn pattern can be layered with toys, books, and artwork to reflect a child’s personality and stage, while still feeling timeless.”

Investing in quality furnishings
When creating a timeless bedroom, picking the right furniture is vital, notes Aspinall. “What will stand the test of time physically as well as visually?
“Wooden finishes are versatile and sit well with any décor scheme, and white, acrylic-finished furniture items are often hardier and easier to clean – either will age well with your child, and contribute to the finished look.”
She says it’s also worth considering adaptable furniture, that can physically grow with your little one. “Hardwearing furniture where possible, you won’t need to replace… then, it’ll only be little design tweaks.”
The finishing touches to personalise their space
A simple yet effective way to refresh is by decorating the walls with timeless picture frames – and focus on updating the content, suggests Aspinall.
“Fill your child’s frames with treasured memories as well as pictures of their favourite characters and things of the moment,” she encourages. “This is sure to keep their room feeling like their own, whilst still embracing a classic bedroom theme that does’t need revamping every year.”
Coles-Tromans says: “Old printer’s trays are an affordable and aesthetically pleasing way of displaying your child’s precious finds such as stones, shells and treasures from a day paddling in a stream, or on a Devon beach.”
She says the key is to mix practicality with playfulness. “Storage should feel thoughtful, textiles durable, and every design decision should serve both style and daily life.”
“I’m especially fond of incorporating patterns inspired by traditional British childhood memories – school holiday trips to the seaside, the May Day village fete, or tales of knights and swords from days out at castles.”
These heritage cues feel familiar and grounding, says Coles-Tromans. “They add soul to a child’s space… the perfect stage for their own curated treasures.”

Beautiful beaches, swanky new hotels and a World Heritage Site have helped this seaside town explode in popularity, says Claire Spreadbury.
I’m standing on a manicured lawn, legs hip-width apart as I shimmy my weight forward. I move the putter back a tiny amount and hit a golf ball wonkily towards the hole.
“It’s a good putt,” PGA pro Charlotte Reid tells me. “You just need to hit it like a pendulum.”
Charlotte is frequently dishing out advice here at Royal Portrush Golf Club – home to The Open for the third time this summer. Around 278,000 people will be heading to Northern Ireland’s prestigious location for the 153rd championship. It’s one of the most soughtafter golf courses in the world, and costs visitors like me £385 to play a round.
It’s one of the reasons some seriously fancy hotels are opening up in and around Portrush – a Northern Irish seaside town full of heart.
On the fourth fairway, the region’s only five-star resort opened in March. Dunluce Lodge’s 35 suites are decked out in earthy shades, creating a calming yet traditional space. Little details – like locally-sourcing everything, free beer and snacks in the rooms, and chocolate and a bedtime story – give the hotel a homely feel. And the never-ending sunsets can be soaked up from the terrace, open year-round with an outdoor BBQ and firepit.
In land, the Portrush Adelphi has been bought and renovated by Marine & Lawn – their first hotel which isn’t directly on the coast or golf course.

It’s a small, boutique affair with 34 rooms, but it’s the downstairs decor that really stands out. Grand but cool, shiny green tiles frame the bar lined with six plump leather stools. At the bay window, cloaked in long flowing curtains with miniature gold tassels, four revolving Chesterfield tub chairs are upholstered in plush green velvet, and the walls and ceiling are adorned in green corduroy.
Up the road, Hilton’s £11million hotel The Marcus Portrush is currently being refurbished, set to open on July 1, and a big spa hotel has also got the go ahead to open in nearby Portstewart.
Aside from the golf, there is plenty to do in this part of Northern Ireland. The untamed coast is home to UNESCO World Heritage Site Giant’s Causeway. The jaw-dropping geological wonder formed almost 60million years ago from volcanic eruption and slowlycooling lava. It’s a basalt plateau that has to be seen to be believed, the honeycomb-shaped columns jutting upwards in all shapes and sizes.
I wobble my way up the smooth hexagonal hill, tiptoeing over the Wishing Chair and up to the top for the photograph everyone is here for. Going earlier in the day definitely helps avoid crowds – just watch out for jelly legs on the way down.
As I snap unreal photos from Magheracross viewpoint, looking out over Whiterocks Beach with the rocky Skerries in the distance, crashing surf swooshes and swirls like a belligerent shiver of shark fins, green moss dusting their tips. The sea is as blue as the sky and there’s barely a soul in sight.
Two minutes away, the ruins of Dunluce Castle – built on sheer headland with Causeway stones between the 15th and 17th century – hides rocks, reefs and sea caves. I stumble over the cobbles, admiring the fat, sturdy walls. It’s sprawling and beautiful, much like the coast it overlooks.
Anyone looking to fill up their days with more than just sightseeing can head out on the Causeway Craft Trail – visiting local artisans inspired by their gorgeous surroundings.

The Boat House gallery – complete with a rowing boat strung up to the ceiling and lit with fairy lights – hosts a local craft collective. There’s always an artist here and an array of affordable items to buy. Emer Dixon, who specialises in Irish heritage silver jewellery, plucks a box from her glass storage cabinet – it’s a necklace she’s just finished called Messy Heart, “because everyone’s heart is a wee bit messy”, she says.
At Atlantic Craft, I meet Louise McLean, who teaches us how to weave willow and somehow, magically create decorative swallows.
Louise has been basket weaving for 25 years, has met the King, had pieces bought by celebrities and makes props for big-budget film and TV shows.
“It’s the oldest crafting skill in the world,” she says. “You have to weave using both hands and, because it uses both sides of the brain, it’s really therapeutic.”
My favourite thing to do in Portrush, however, is the Spirit of the Bann foodie tour.
We meet by LIR – undoubtedly the best restaurant in the area – ran by Stevie McCarry (who made the Great British Menu final this year) and his wife Rebekah, who’s responsible for the epic pink walls, glitterballs, Tiffany lampshades and David Shrigley artwork. The whole space looks out onto the riverbank.
I grab our skipper Ian McKnight’s hand and haul myself onto the shiny burgundy M.V. Kingfisher. “It’s the love of my life,” Ian says of his lockdown project.
We take our seats beneath the colourful bunting and miniature festoon lights as Simon Hogg from Dunluce Distillery pours us a large shot of La Riva Nata. His Great Taste award-winner is made with the peel of Sorrento lemons and is the first limoncello born in Ireland.
It’s 11.30am and Ian merrily toots his horn at other boat owners. Tall reeds line the riverbank, spines perfectly upright soaking up the rare sunshine on Northern Ireland’s longest river. We learn all about the area of outstanding natural beauty, the salt marsh and reef beds providing a home to dragonflies, native bluebells and rare orchids.
Simon serves up a Shore Born gin, made with juniper, lavender and cardamom, as the estuary starts to open out.

Native cormorants sit on the jetty, wings outstretched, drying off in the sunshine, while others flap close to the sea, seeking out supper. A family of three stand on a stretch of beach they have all to themselves, as we look out to Mussenden Temple – one of the most photographed places in Ireland – and the hills of county Donegal.
The river becomes a little more undulating, the sun dancing on the ripples, twinkling like diamonds, as we chug our way into the Atlantic.
We stop for lunch and a cheeky cocktail, all served on locally-made slate and wooden platters. Simon shakes up a round of Twilight Shores – gin, blueberry purée, lavender syrup, and mint from his garden – which pairs perfectly with the cheese and charcuterie.
The condiments are phenomenal: Distillers Pickle Sauce – a concoction perfected during lockdown by chef Gary Stewart; a rhubarb chutney made by Amanda Hanna –a farmer’s wife whose farmshop business Jam At The Doorstep has exploded; Irish Black Butter, which is not actually butter, but a delicious sauce made with Armagh
Bramley apples; and Dart Mountain Craft Drizzle made with Armagh dry cider, which I pour over an oat biscuit topped with a hunk of cheese and walnuts.
Simon chats about his creations modestly, a squashed cap wonkily placed his head, and we finish the trip with an Irish coffee made with his coffee liqueur.
I may be full of gin and cheese, but romantic plans of upping sticks and moving to Portrush feel like a genuine possibility. The people are friendly, the food and drink is delicious, and the surroundings are utterly beautiful.
I’m not the greatest golfer, but this part of Northern Ireland has much more to offer than those 18 holes, no matter how fancy they are.
How to plan your trip
Rooms at Dunluce Lodge (dunlucelodge.com) start from £299, with breakfast. Rooms at Portrush Adelphi (marineandlawn.com/portrushadelphi/) start from £245, including full Irish breakfast.
The Spirit Of The Bann Gin Tasting Tour is run by Causeway Coast Foodie Tours and White River Charters, costing £79.50. A half-day willow weaving workshop with Atlantic Craft costs £45. Giant’s Causeway is free, but a visitor experience ticket, which includes parking and tours costs £15.

If you’re planning to replace your roof, now’s the perfect time to make it earn its keep. Traditional roofs protect against the elements – but what if yours could also reduce your energy bills for decades to come?
By installing solar panels at the same time as a re-roof, homeowners can make a savvy financial move. Thanks to a government-backed 0% VAT incentive on
solar and battery installations (including the associated roofing works), combining both jobs could save you 20% in VAT alone. But this zero-rated VAT scheme won’t last forever – it’s set to end in March 2027.
That’s where SLC Solutions comes in. Based in Bournemouth and serving the wider South Coast, this family-run electrical contractor has more than 18 years’ industry experience.

Discover how bespoke furniture can transform chaos into calm
Have you ever looked around your home and thought, “Where does all this stuff come from?” Whether it’s overflowing closets, cluttered countertops, or that one room you just can’t seem to keep tidy, many of us struggle with a common problem— lack of effective storage. The good news? The solution isn’t more generic storage boxes or another flimsy shelf from the local shop. The real answer lies in customdesigned furniture that fits your home, your needs, and your lifestyle.
At Custom Creations, we believe every home has untapped potential. Whether you live in a spacious detached house or a compact city flat, there are always smarter ways to use your space. Our expert team specialises in creating bespoke furniture and storage solutions that are tailored not just to fit awkward corners or tricky alcoves—but to truly elevate the way you live in your home.
Why bespoke?
Off-the-shelf furniture often fails to meet the unique requirements of individual homes. You might end up compromising on size, sacrificing style, or missing out on much-needed functionality. With Custom Creations, there’s no need to settle. We work closely with each client to understand their space, needs, and personal style, and we design and build solutions that are as practical as they are beautiful.
From elegant fitted wardrobes and spacesaving under-stair storage to custom media units, home offices, and even hidden storage in unexpected places, the possibilities are endless. We pride ourselves on craftsmanship, attention to detail, and an unwavering commitment to quality—from the first design sketch to the final polish.
Make every inch count
Imagine a hallway transformed with builtin cabinetry that hides shoes, coats, and clutter. Or a living room enhanced by a made-to-measure media wall that keeps tech tidy while showcasing your personality. Perhaps your loft, garage, or spare room has become a dumping ground for the things you don’t know where to put. We can turn those neglected spaces into organised, functional areas you’ll actually enjoy using.
The key is to think beyond what you see. That unused wall space? Perfect for integrated shelving. The awkward nook under the stairs? Ideal for drawers or a discreet desk setup. Your dream storage solution is closer than you think—and it starts with a conversation.
Let’s create together
At Custom Creations, we don’t just build furniture—we build solutions for living. Whether you’re looking to reclaim space, create order, or add a personal touch to your interiors, our bespoke designs are tailored to bring your vision to life.

Stylish, environmentally conscious aces are where ’s at, says Sam Wylie-Harris.
Going green and making thoughtful design choices can be hugely rewarding, and resonates well with an ecofriendly lifestyle.
As Alysha Alli, group interior designer at Redrow puts it: “Sustainability starts with the choices we make when furnishing our homes.
“Opting for locally made or handmade pieces ensures you’re supporting artisans, and reducing the environmental impact of mass production.”
And while it may be tempting to purchase budgetfriendly items from fast-retailers, Alli says investing in higher-quality materials means your furniture will not only last longer, but also be crafted with care and durability in mind.
Here are some practical tips and strategies to help you create interiors which stand the test of time, and are kinder to the planet…
Minimalism is evolving beyond its traditional starkness, embracing a softer, more refined aesthetic, highlights Alli. “The rise of ‘Japandi’ and #playfulminimalism highlights a growing desire for interiors that balance comfort, style, and tranquillity – whilst also reducing environmental impact.”
By prioritising natural materials, durable design and intentional simplicity, she says this approach promotes both aesthetic longevity and eco-conscious choices.
Here’s how to incorporate this into your home…
Zen-inspired spaces: With Pinterest searches for ‘zen house’ having surged by 405% in the past year, the interest suggests a shift toward interiors which promote balance and serenity, underlines Alli. “Incorporating natural materials, organic shapes and an uncluttered layout creates harmony while reducing excess consumption.”
Low-key luxury: Refined finishes and sustainable materials like responsibly sourced stone and wood create an understated, yet eco-friendly sense of luxury, says the designer. “Adding elements like bronze accents creates a rich yet organic feel.”
Simplified colour palettes: “Earthy neutrals such as unbleached linen, terracotta, and black form a timeless backdrop that allows sustainable textures and materials to shine,” says Alli.
Folk symbolism: Handcrafted pieces with meaningful designs or talisman-inspired details – such as storage baskets from weaving co-operatives in Africa –

celebrate cultural heritage and craftsmanship, she explains, supporting ethical production practices.
Upcycling and repurposing: Giving furniture a second life is one of the simplest ways to embrace sustainability, advises Alli. She says platforms like Facebook Marketplace offer a treasure trove of pre-loved items waiting for a second chance.
DIY touch-ups: “A fresh coat of paint or new upholstery can completely transform an old chair or table,” she enthuses.
Lighting refresh: An interior designer’s secret weapon, Alli says. Simply swapping out a lampshade can make a big impact on a room’s ambience.
Blending old and new: Combining vintage finds with modern pieces creates a layered, characterful interior that feels curated over time.
“Embracing sustainability and the push for conscious design goes beyond aesthetics,” outlines Alli. It’s about integrating sustainable innovations into our homes.”
Reducing microplastics: Choose furniture and textiles made from recycled or bio-based materials, she encourages, and look for water filtration solutions that eliminate plastic particles.
Solar innovations: As Alli points out, the rise of solarpowered lighting and energy-efficient appliances helps reduce both your carbon footprint and electricity bills.
Luxury with longevity: “High-end design is shifting toward circularity, with brands prioritising durable, repairable, and responsibly sourced materials,” she notes. “Investing in quality ensures your home remains timeless – and environmentally responsible.”

Mark Slack tells us the latest news on all things motoring.
This year marks 11 years of the Hagerty Festival of the Unexceptional, the only event to celebrate basic when it comes to mundane motors. This unique festival continues to grow in popularity, with owners and visitors from all over the world, but what is an ‘Unexceptional’ car?
Grimsthorpe Castle in Lincolnshire has pristine heritage lawns and gardens, beautiful woodland and of course, a wonderful stately home that is steeped in history. It’s where you might expect to see a display of highly collectible classics. The Festival of the Unexceptional is about the cars you won’t find in glossy auction catalogues, it’s about the cars we can all relate to, because we owned them, or our parents owned them.
To the untrained eye these are the massproduced cars of the motor industry that have long been left behind, but thanks to the Festival of the Unexceptional the unexceptional movement is growing, celebrating the ordinary automobiles of
the 70s, 80s and 90s. Like any prestigious classic car show, it even has its own concours, where 50 much-loved models will be judged in front of the castle as part of the Concours de l’Ordinaire.
What makes cars like this the stars of the Festival of the Unexceptional is the fact they have been preserved despite their ordinariness. Their owners’ enthusiasm goes far beyond investment potential, 0-60 mph times or Instagram aura. Consider this – a quick Google search will likely find the part needed for a 60s Italian sportscar, but try the same exercise for a part for a Talbot
Solara, now that’s not so easy. These cars are a labour of love, not built for profit or collectability and keeping them in concours condition is an exceptional feat in itself.
Then there’s the memories. Perhaps your parents had an Austin Maxi you remember well, or you lusted after the new Fiesta Popular of your neighbour. Maybe it was the Skoda Rapide Coupe that always caught your eye in the local showroom or the Yugo 45 you saw in one of the many motoring magazines of the era. Whatever the reason, the cars of the Festival of the Unexceptional all have a story to tell.
Aston Martin has announced a new DBX flagship, the DBX S. Powered by an engine with technology transferred directly from the forthcoming Valhalla supercar, the DBX S has even more power and reduced weight.
DBX S continues a long tradition of Aston Martin’s utilisation of the ‘S’ suffix to denote a special, high-performance version of an existing model; the first being Vanquish S which made its public debut at the Paris Motor Show in 2004. DBX S proves that lighter variants with more power and performance are still very much part of Aston Martin’s production and continues a lineage of notable high-performance models.
At the heart of the new DBX S is an upgraded version of the company’s 4.0-Litre TwinTurbo V8 engine. By using turbo technology transferred directly from the upcoming Valhalla supercar, power is raised by a further 20PS to 727PS. The result is a 0-100kph time of just 3.3 seconds and the top speed remains unchanged at 310kph/193mph.
As with its DBX707 stablemate, DBX S distributes its power between the front and rear wheels in variable proportion –including an ability to send 50 per cent of its torque to the front and up to 100 per cent of its torque to the rear wheels alone - through a 9-speed ‘wet clutch’ transmission, which removes the need for a conventional torque converter, delivering extreme performance on launch from standstill.
From the front, the new DBX S has a pure black vaned grille and new side sills have
distinctive up-turned air splitters which help channel and direct the airflow along the side of the car. The most obvious visual changes to the new flagship DBX are at the rear, dominated by quad exhausts now vertically stacked and available in both gloss and matt finishes.
The interior has a bespoke ‘S’ theme; the most notable feature being the distinctive herringbone design which comes as standard on the seating. Seating, headlining, centre console, lower instrument panels and upper trim is finished in lightweight Alcantara, the seat bolsters are in semianiline leather.
‘S’ has long had an association with Aston Martin, and DBX S proves that lighter variants with more power and performance are still very much part of the marque’s story, and are set to last into the foreseeable future. DBX S is available to order now, with deliveries expected towards the end of the year.
It is one of those models that has been a first car for many, a ‘down-sizer’ car and economical urban run-around since the early 1980s when it was first launched. The all-new, sixth-generation version of the MICRA will return to the B-segment this year as a fully-connected, pure EV. With zero-emissions the new MICRA will stay true to its history which has underpinned its popularity and success across five generations and more than 40 years.
Its arrival signals the next major step in Nissan’s plan to introduce four new fully electric models by 2027 as part of its push towards electrification. These include the all-new MICRA, followed by the Nissan LEAF, Nissan JUKE, and a A-Segment model, as well as the upgraded third generation of Nissan’s unique e-Power technology – to be rolled out on the best-selling Nissan Qashqai.
Designed at Nissan’s Design Europe (NDE) in London, the new MICRA has a refreshed and distinctive new exterior look.
All new MICRA grades will come with 18inch wheels, with three different options depending on grade: “active” wheel covers, “Iconic” and “Sport” alloy wheel designs. That large wheel dimension, combining with the dark wheel arch trim, contributes to the new MICRA’s strong and solid stance on the road.
Headlamps protrude slightly from the clean inclined surface angling up from the numberplate to the bonnet. On unlocking the car, the lights perform a short choreographed “welcome wink” where the front lights pulse from left to right and then right to left. At the rear,
the taillamps are defined by a simple but ornate LED light design – boasting circular lighting elements.
Some 14 exterior colour combinations will be available in Pure White, Elegant Silver, Mystery Black, Noble Marine, Authentic Blue, and Rebel Red. Depending on grade, two-tone colour options give the buyer the choice to combine the body colour with either a black or grey roof, ensuring there’s a specification and distinctive look for drivers of all tastes.
Front and rear seat upholstery varies according to grade but offers customers three distinct trims to suit their preference – Modern, Audacious, and Chill.
To simplify options for customers, the new MICRA will only be available in a five-door configuration – making the most of its long wheelbase to give easy entry and exit for all occupants.
While primarily designed as a car for the urban environment, the 52kWh battery and a 253-mile real-world range.
Isuzu unveiled its new D-Max EV to the world at the 2025 Commercial Vehicle Show (CV Show), at the NEC Birmingham, marking a historic moment as the first-ever fully electric, commercial pick-up truck enters the European automotive stage.
The New Isuzu D-Max EV is the latest evolution of the company’s popular and award-winning D-Max platform, now reengineered with a state-of-the-art electric drivetrain, offering full-time 4x4, over 1-tonne payload, and maximum 3.5-tonne towing capacity, making it the first production electric pick-up in Europe to deliver full commercial capabilities.
In EV form the D-Max is powered by a 66.9 kWh lithium-ion battery with a WLTP range of 263km, with dual motors producing a total output of 140 kW (43 kW front / 97 kW rear) and 325 Nm of torque (108 Nm front / 217 Nm rear). The result is 0-62mph acceleration in just 10.1 seconds, and a top speed of over 80mph.
Full-time 4x4 with multi-level regenerative braking and Eco Mode, which extends the vehicle range, and water wading up to 600mm, ground clearance of 210mm, and impressive off-road approach and departure angles (30.5° and 24.2° respectively) should ensure the D-Max EV is just as capable as its combustion powered stablemate.
The D-Max EV will be available in two premium trim levels, both in Extended Cab and Double Cab configurations. These trims are the electric equivalents of the diesel-powered D-Max DL40 and V-Cross models, respectively, combining advanced capability with class-leading features and comfort. The model at the CV Show 2025 was presented in a one-off Norwegian Blue paint. The colour range available to order with the D-Max EV in the UK is yet to be announced.
To improve refinement there’s an all-new De-Dion rear suspension, replacing the traditional leaf spring setup, which delivers improved handling. With various other improvements within the zero-emissions model, Isuzu says there’s up to 10% reduction in cabin noise and vibration level under full acceleration.
The zero-emissions D-Max features Isuzu’s latest infotainment system, with wireless Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™, accessible through a high-resolution touchscreen.
Equipped with multi-level regenerative braking, Eco mode, and a robust lithiumion battery with a warranty of 8 years or 100,000 miles the D-Max EV provides a greener alternative to diesel powertrains.
Pre-sales for D-Max EV will begin in the second half of this year, following the pricing announcement.
Sometimes a car can turn out to be somewhat of a quandary. Take the new KGM Actyon, KGM was formerly SsangYong and the Actyon is an SUV that sits between the Torres and Rexton models.
There’s much to like about the Actyon including excellent build quality, a superb paint finish, standard equipment levels and, although subjective, a striking and stand out style. However, there’s also a couple of things that would irritate longer term.
Power comes from a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol unit mated to a 6-speed automatic. The normal refined drive is rather broken under acceleration as the engine has a lot to haul and the transmission seems to take an age to catch up, pushing the engine revs high.
This is a shame as under more relaxed driving it’s a smooth and refined machine. I suspect the engine and transmission combination also accounts for the fuel consumption, which during my time with the Actyon averaged, in mixed driving, 27 mpg. Not great!
Thankfully there’s much more to like than dislike, the paint finish on my test car being superb with the flake in the metallic black finish popping. The interior is extremely well finished from the leather upholstery to the suede trim.
Standard equipment is extremely generous with heated and cooled front seats, heated rear seats, auto lights and wipers, powered seats, keyless entry and start, power tailgate, intelligent cruise control, TomTom navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto along with wireless phone charging and more. Even given the £38,649 price tag it’s a voluminous list.
To say there’s space inside the Actyon is an understatement, it is very spacious and with the comfortable seats it’s a rather nice place to be on any journey. The slightly curved touchscreen is much more integrated than many of the ‘bolt-on’ looking iPads we’re used to seeing on most cars and the Actyon dash looks far classier than rivals as a result.
However, the touchscreen is annoyingly slow to react but on the plus side it’s easy to switch off the driver annoyance…sorry assistance…features. Leave them switched on and there is more bong than Big Ben, and they’re far too sensitive.
All told the Actyon feels nicely premium despite some reviewers thinking it variously cheap to okay, certainly I’ve seen worse on equivalent priced rivals. Add the build quality, striking style and the fact it will be a rare sight and it will appeal to those tired of lookalike cars. The downside is likely to be residuals but even more so the poor fuel consumption. I’m sure KGM will address the touchscreen issues and hopefully the engine gearbox combination and poor fuel consumption.
We sit down with Emily Dillon, Director of The Venue Beauty Salon and Clinic, to talk about what’s making waves in the world of advanced beauty. With her 3 locations offering industry-leading treatments and award-winning machines, Emily and her team are setting the standard in skin and laser care.
Emily, what do you see as the “next big thing” in the beauty industry right now?
Honestly, the “next big thing” is already here—it’s advanced, intelligent technology that delivers results with minimal downtime.
At The Venue, we’re proud to house machines like the Cynosure Laser Hair Removal System, which has won multiple awards for a reason. It’s efficient, virtually pain-free, and the results are outstanding.
I mean, let’s be honest—why live with hair these days? It’s 2025!
In addition, at our Westbourne location, we have the Harmony XL Pro, which is an absolute game changer when it comes to
treating pigmentation, rosacea, scarring, acne, open pores, and uneven skin tone. The machine uses cutting-edge laser and light-based technology to treat various skin concerns with pinpoint precision and minimal recovery time.
What treatments do you typically recommend for clients starting out?
We always start with a thorough consultation. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach in advanced skincare. Everyone’s skin is unique, and so should their treatment plan be. That said, some of the foundational treatments we recommend include a mix of chemical peels, microneedling, and laser rejuvenation. These work beautifully in combination to tackle different layers and concerns within the skin.
What are the most popular treatments at your clinic right now?
Without a doubt, laser hair removal with both the Cynosure and Alma Titanium is hugely popular. The precision and effectiveness have made it a go-to for clients looking for long-term solutions. But we’re also seeing a big increase in clients seeking skin rejuvenation. Treatments targeting fine lines, wrinkles, plumping, and skin tone correction are in high demand.
You mentioned combination treatments. Can you explain why they’re so effective? Absolutely. When we combine treatments like chemical peels, microneedling, and laser therapy, we’re targeting the skin on multiple levels. The peel exfoliates
and clears the surface, microneedling stimulates collagen production deeper within the skin, and lasers can resurface and treat pigmentation or vascular issues. This multi-layered approach gets incredible results because we’re not just fixing one issue—we’re transforming the overall health and appearance of the skin. And again, it’s all tailored to the individual. A consultation helps us decide what combination is right for you.
Can people with sensitive skin have these advanced treatments too?
100%, yes. Sensitivity doesn’t exclude you from results-driven treatments. We adapt everything to suit your skin’s tolerance and current condition. Often, sensitive skin benefits even more from professional treatment because we’re using medicalgrade technology and products designed to strengthen and repair the skin barrier over time.
Book your consultation today. Your skin will thank you.
Stay tuned for the next issue, where our conversation with Emily Dillon continues— diving deeper into cutting-edge treatments and what’s really worth the investment.
Lauren Taylor speaks to the chef and content creator about going viral, savoury breakfasts and her hero ingredients.
It was an antipasti-style butter bean dish that turned personal chef Natalia Rudin into an internet sensation.
Her post went viral in 2024, with a million views. “It had all the things that come in jars, like artichokes, sun-dried tomatoes, capers, olives, and some cavolo nero, in a tomatobased sauce,” says the 30-year-old, whose runs the account Nats Nourisments.
Her food, mostly plant-based, focusses on ease and comfort, with plenty of nutrition packed in.
Travelling to India at the age of 23, “I had a bit of a transformation, how I cared for myself, my body and the food I was eating. I became so much more aware of how ingredients, exercise and being outside had this huge effect on my mental health.” And she became a private chef in 2018.
But it isn’t always easy to prioritise eating lots of plants in busy lives. “It’s kind of being savvy. That’s where I’ve used my experience as a personal chef. A lot of the time, I’d work with clients who don’t really have any concept of time, they might suddenly be like, ‘Can we have a three course meal in an hour?’ And you just scrap in the kitchen.”
Her debut cookbook, Cooking Fast And Slow, utilises this expertise of cooking under
different time frames, “to aid people who think that they don’t have the time to cook, to eat well, to feel well, to show them that they can”.
Here’s her advice for packing in the plants if you’re always in a rush.
Have some fast recipes in your repertoire
Rudin says most people understand that eating better helps us feel more well – “I think the problem lies in the nature of a busy schedule for people. When I had a
nine-to-five job, I would come home and I’d be like, OK, I’ve only got really half an hour to play with, and then I’m knackered and I just want to get into bed.”
So you’ll find 15-minute dishes like kimchi noodle stir fry and cavolo nero gnocchi in her book. While others, like the truffled white beans and wild mushrooms, or silky squash soup with crispy sage leaves, can be rustled up in less than half an hour.
“Because it is so easy to cook with whole food ingredients fairly from scratch and still create something nourishing and delicious,” she says.
Stock up on key cupboard ingredients
“Having a cupboard full of back-up ingredients is always really, really important.” Her biggest hero ingredient is beans. “They can be there for years and they’ll be absolutely fine. I always have butter beans or cannellini beans or chickpeas, and then also sun-dried tomatoes, because again, that’s the kind of thing that you can sit at the top of the fridge. They’re in oil, they last forever and they’re delicious.
“Same with artichokes, olives, capers –because you can always whip up something really flavoursome with that. You get your protein from your beans and the flavour punches from those.”
Utilise your freezer
Pasta is key too, but don’t stick to one variety. “I always say, have as many fancy shapes as you possibly can, because it will make the meal feel more elevated.”
And, “if you’re struggling for time, you can buy the pre-made packets of lentils or quinoa. Those are always pretty handy to have on hand, because then you can throw them together with whatever fresh ingredients you have in the fridge”.
Have ready-made flavourings to hand Rudin recommends having jars of shawarma paste or harissa paste, too. “If you’ve got those lying around, you really are never far from a meal. [Like] harissa chickpeas, which is something we make all the time.
“Something that we really love in our house is also miso paste. It’s a fermented thing, it lasts forever. I like putting it in place of chicken stock or vegetable stock because it’s got those really deep umami flavours.
“I love having fermented things in the fridge, like sauerkraut, kimchi and pickles.”
Frozen fruit and vegetables are your best friend if you’re short on time – especially shopping time. “I’d always have frozen peas in the freezer, and frozen spinach, because that’s the kind of stuff you can throw into a pan to bulk up something.
“Something that we often have at home is lemony pea pasta, because it’s so quick, it’s so easy. [The peas] cook so quickly, they pack a huge punch with protein, and live in your freezer forever,” she notes.
Use this simple flavour bomb tip on different veg
“Lemon, chilli and garlic is a really good trifecta of ingredients to really jazz up anything,” says Rudin. “If you have a side of broccoli with a bit of lemon, chilli and garlic, it feels elevated – it’s delicious. It’s a great way to get people to eat more greens and just add more things onto your plate. I love dark leafy greens. If it’s pasta, I’ll throw a little salad on the side, whether it be some blanched cavolo nero with lemon and chilli and garlic.”
Get organised
Meal prepping is “a lifesaver”, she says, particular for work lunches. “I’m such a huge advocate.”
Set aside an hour or an hour and a half a week, to prepare for the week. For example, “Two grains, maybe a rice and a pasta, or lentils or chickpeas or quinoa, if you have two of those and a couple of fresh salad options, be that chopped cucumber and chopped tomato – those are really basic, fairly cheap ingredients – and then you can add whatever protein you want.”
Pack plants in at breakfast
“It’s difficult because we’re all working and we’re all under a time constraint in the morning, and sometimes people will value having a couple of extra minutes in bed rather than creating a breakfast,” says Rudin. Save time by prepping breakfast the night before, she suggests, like chai pots packed with fruit, or carrot cake overnight oats – “You’re getting a vegetable in a breakfast, which a lot of people don’t”.
She adds: “I love a savoury breakfast personally,” she says. One of her recipes is a black bean breakfast bowl with scrambled tofu, sweet potato and cashew cream.
“I think it’s just sometimes people may have exclusively toast or granola, and they don’t realise that you can have so much fun with your breakfast.”

2tbsp shawarma paste
400g oyster mushrooms, roughly torn
2 flatbreads, warmed
1 pickled gherkin, sliced
Small bunch of parsley
Salt
For the pickled onions: ½ small red onion, thinly sliced into half-moons
Juice of ½ lemon
For the tahini yoghurt: 5tbsp plain yoghurt of your choice
1tbsp tahini
For the slaw: ¼ red cabbage, thinly sliced
1tbsp vegan garlic mayo (or egg-based alternative)
Juice of ½ lemon
INGREDIENTS
150g cherry tomatoes on the vine
2tbsp olive oil, plus extra as needed
400g asparagus
½ shallot, diced
4 garlic cloves, finely chopped or grated
2 x 400g tins butter beans
¼ vegetable stock cube
3tbsp pesto (shop-bought or homemade)
Juice of ½ lemon
Handful of fresh mint and basil leaves
1tbsp pine nuts
1 red chilli, deseeded and diced or sliced
1. Start by combining 1 tablespoon of the olive oil and the shawarma paste in a bowl.
2. Tear the mushrooms and add them to the bowl, season with a good pinch of salt, then coat them in the paste so the flavours infuse. Set aside while you prep the pickled onions.
3. Put the onions into a small bowl along with the lemon juice and a big pinch of salt then give it a rough mix and leave to sit for a couple of minutes until light pink and juicy.
4. In another bowl, mix the yoghurt and tahini and season with salt.
5. To make the slaw, mix all the ingredients together with a good pinch of salt and set aside.
6. Heat the remaining tablespoon of olive oil in a frying pan over a high heat and fry the marinated mushrooms for about 10 minutes until charred and caramelised.
7. Warm through the flatbreads in a separate dry pan or straight on a flame if you have a gas hob (be careful and use tongs). Let them sit for about 30 seconds per side and keep flipping until they feel warm to the touch – this goes for both pan or direct flame.
8. Layer on the yoghurt, slaw, pickled onions, mushrooms and finish with pickled gherkin and parsley.
SERVES 2-3
1. Preheat the oven to 190°C/375°F/gas 5. Lay the cherry tomatoes on a roasting tray, cover in 1 tablespoon of the olive oil and roast for 15–20 minutes until just bursting.
2. Slice the stalks of the asparagus into 1cm rounds and halve the tips. Heat the remaining tablespoon of oil in a large saucepan and fry the rounds over a medium heat for a minute, then add the tips and fry for another minute or so until they have softened. Remove from the pan.
3. Add a little more oil to the pan if it needs it and fry the shallot for 5 minutes until just browning, then add the garlic and fry for another minute. Pour in the beans and their liquid, along with the stock cube. Stir well. Let it simmer and thicken up for 5–10 minutes.
4. Return the asparagus to the pan, swirl through the pesto and squeeze in the lemon juice. Scatter over the fresh mint, basil, pine nuts and chilli and top with the roasted tomatoes.
3
INGREDIENTS
50g chia seeds
300g plain yoghurt of choice
360ml milk of choice
(I use almond milk)
Juice and zest of ½ lemon
75g maple syrup
150g blueberries (ideally fresh, but frozen will work too)
Granola (shop-bought or homemade) to top (optional)
1. Mix the chia seeds with half of the yoghurt, the almond milk, lemon juice and maple syrup and leave to stand for 5 minutes.
2. Prepare the three pots you want to serve in by filling the bottom of each evenly with blueberries and then top with rest of the yoghurt.
3. Once the thickened chia mixture is ready, spoon it evenly over your pots of yoghurt.
4. When you’re ready to serve, sprinkle with granola and lemon zest.
You can store these in the fridge, covered, for up to 3 days. Although oats don’t naturally contain gluten, make sure to use GF granola if you are coeliac.

Nestled on Bournemouth’s prestigious East Cliff, the Cumberland Hotel is a four‑star Art Deco gem that first opened its doors in 1936–37, built on the grounds of the old Fern Cliff estate. With its grand Italian marble lobby, sweeping sea views, and glamorous 1920s–30s style, the hotel evokes the elegance of Miami’s Ocean Drive.
During the Second World War, it was briefly commandeered to house defence troops, and post‑war became Europe’s largest Orthodox Jewish hotel, complete with its own synagogue and nightly dance bands.
Over the years, the shimmering lobby and iconic poolside Lido have welcomed many famous faces—Hollywood stars like Marilyn Monroe, Dean Martin, and Frank Sinatra have lingered here, their portraits a nod to the hotel’s golden‑age Hollywood connection.
Curry nights: a local gem
These days, the Cumberland is beloved not just for its history but for its legendary Thursday curry nights. For just £19.95, guests enjoy a feast of authentic, aromatic flavours that celebrate the best of Indian cuisine—an unbeatable value that brings a vibrant midweek buzz to Bournemouth locals.
A fine-dining feast to remember
We indulged in an outstanding culinary lineup starting with exquisite Poole Bay oysters—briny, fresh, and melted on the tongue—followed by a remarkable Spanish chorizo Scotch egg, perfectly crisp on the outside with a yolk that oozes. The highlight of our starters, though, was the pan‑seared Loch Fyne scallops, caramelised to golden perfection and kissed with sea salt and herb butter: simple yet sublime.
For mains, the chef’s seafood linguine stole the show—plump prawns, tender mussels, and chewy clams bathed in a silky, saffron‑infused cream sauce.
Equally impressive was the fillet steak, outstanding in its tenderness and richness, dressed with a luxurious Isle of Wight blue‑cheese sauce whose tang cut beautifully through the meaty juiciness.
Dessert was a show‑stopper: a Dubai chocolate tart—decadently dark, with a velvety ganache inside a crisp pastry case—elevated by a dusting of pistachio and a quenelle of cream. Each spoonful was rich, balanced, and utterly indulgent—a sweet finale to a memorable evening.
Why locals should come
1. Unmatched value – for £19.95, you’ll enjoy a gourmet experience that rivals fine‑dining, yet with a relaxed, sociable atmosphere.
2. Historic charm meets modern flair –soak up the Art Deco grandeur and sea‑view elegance while savouring bold, contemporary curry creations.
3. Star studded legacy – walk in the footsteps of Hollywood legends and generations of Bournemouth families— history’s glamour meets curry comfort.
4. Flavours that stay with you – from the coast fresh oysters and scallops to the decadent steak and divine chocolate tart, each dish showcases top tier ingredients and flawless preparation.
Join us on Thursdays
Whether you’re looking for a midweek treat, a romantic evening, or a gathering with friends, the Cumberland Hotel’s Thursday curry night offers memorable food, a spectacular setting, and compelling value. Locals: come for the curry, stay for the atmosphere—you’ll be part of the hotel’s latest chapter of history, weaving your own story into its storied past.
Book now and discover why Bournemouth locals can’t wait for Thursday nights at the Cumberland—where Art Deco glitz meets curry night lure, and every bite is a celebration by the sea.
