Palm Beach Food and Wine On Sunday, December 14, The Palm Beach Food & Wine Festival (PBFWF) in partnership with Wine Spectator and powered by GEICO, successfully concluded its 18th annual celebration, following four extraordinary days of food, wine, and hospitality across Palm Beach County’s most elite hotels, restaurants, golf courses and beyond. The festival welcomed guests to 22 distinctive events, including seven highly anticipated debuts bringing together acclaimed chefs, celebrated winemakers, and culinary enthusiasts for an unforgettable winter weekend.

Brevo Theater presented Black Nativity, which is an African American telling of the Nativity story, based on the Song Play written by acclaimed African American poet and playwright Langston Hughes. The show recreates the journey of Mary and Joseph, resplendent in African costumes, to Bethlehem, accompanied by a rousing repertoire of spirituals.

On Wednesday, December 17, 321 Slammer presented their annual XXXMas Party from 8pm to 1am with a member sponsored open bar and refreshments.

‘These Bitches Just Go For It’ Amanda Seyfried and director Paul Feig break down the busted nails, shattered dishes and queer-minded madness behind their over-the-top thriller

By Chris Azzopardi Chaos, camp and unrestrained power crash through every melodramatic note — and every broken dish — in “The Housemaid.” Amanda Seyfried — beloved by queer audiences for “Mean Girls,” “Mamma Mia!” and “Jennifer’s Body” — hurls objects, loses fingernails and radiates a deliciously unhinged energy, while director Paul Feig clearly revels in each shattered plate and theatrical beat. The result is a film that’s messy, thrilling and gloriously over-the-top. It’s exactly the kind of cinematic joyride queer audiences live for.

There’s a hot husband who can’t manage a takeout order, a bratty child born into unchecked privilege and… well, plenty more that can’t be said without wandering into spoiler territory. (Some mild spoilers ahead — consider yourself warned.)

Feig — whose work, from “Bridesmaids” to “A Simple Favor,” has long carried an innate queerness simmering beneath glossy surfaces — is known to flip stereotypes and keep audiences deliciously off balance. It’s a reminder of why his films resonate so deeply with LGBTQ+ viewers: extreme characters, sharp humor and the freedom to be messy, complicated and fully human, all celebrated without apology.

In conversation, Seyfried and Feig dive into the queer-minded sensibilities shaping their work, the psychodrama, the camp-soaked

meltdowns and the genre-bending storytelling that keeps viewers laughing, gasping and guessing at every turn. “These bitches just go for it,” Seyfried says — and the on-screen energy proves her right.

Watching Amanda throw things in the kitchen — what did that feel like?

Paul Feig: Greatest day of my life.

Amanda Seyfried: I was struggling with that scene. I was so nervous about it, because I needed to show all the things. I was afraid. I read the scene in the script and I was like, "Oh, it's a doozy," but then after a couple of takes, I was like, "Oh, I can really do anything?"

Feig: You broke some dishes.

A few dishes were broken in this movie.

Feig: Exactly.

Seyfried: And there's a real moment in there where I lose my nail, and I'm like, the nails are such a thing to put on in real life and for the character, and when I lost it, I was like, "No!" It was really, honestly just life-affirming to be able to be an actor and get to play like that.

Feig: My favorite line is, "And now my nails are fucked!"

You really do get pretty messy in this

movie, Amanda. I’ve been describing your role as “delicious.”

Seyfried: I've been using that to describe how it felt to play her. Because it was definitely a very unique role. I think that there aren't that many roles where people are really broken, where [an actor is] performing a crazy person. It just doesn't exist. It is a very niche story, I believe, even though it's a thriller. Paul, all he does is bend genres.

I was thinking of something you once said while I watched this that became a cultural moment. You joked that, "I exist to make the gays happy," so I wanted to ask you, what about “The Housemaid” do you think helps prove that existence?

Seyfried: I said that? I think I was being ironic. But, again, I think it's these bitches just fucking going for it. To own the power and see this kind of eruption of compassion between these women and the storytelling style with which everything is being told, it's the most fun, full-circle experience.

Feig: Well, I also think she's so deliciously unpredictable in the movie, and that's what's fun. If Nina, for the first hour, was just balls out mean, then the audience is like, "All right, whatever."

Seyfried: Psychological manipulation at its scariest.

There also is the element of camp, of course. Some of it feels very “Real Housewives of New York City.”

Seyfried: I think the humor is what gets everybody. It’s the sense of humor in it, really infused very potently within the drama, and this psychodrama is so important and elevates the whole thing, and it makes you pee laughing at times when you're like, "Wait, this is weird. This is very abstract," and you almost are confused as to what you're witnessing, and I think that's powerful, for sure.

Paul, you've said that you feel aligned with queerness in spirit and culture. How does that show up in your creative decision-making, especially in a film like this that deals with identity and perception?

Feig: Yeah. I mean, I love things on the extreme, and I like extreme characters, and I also love the idea of taking stereotypes and twisting them on their head. I like to introduce you to a bunch of people, you go, "I know exactly who they are. She's the kooky, sweet housewife, she's the innocent girl, he's the perfect husband," and then make you regret all those judgments that you made.

Seyfried: Yeah. At the end of the day, you just end up questioning your own perception of things, and it just broadens your focus. That's always important.

Everything's a little bit of a lesson without it trying to be.

Feig: We hide the pill in the peanut butter, basically.

Seyfried: Yeah. And then, can we just talk about "I Did Something Bad"? It is perfect. I squealed at the end of the movie.

Feig: And thank you, Taylor, for letting us use it, because Taylor will not let you use something if she doesn't like what she sees.

Seyfried: Oh god, I was so excited. I do think we could turn it into a dance party. I do feel like “The Housemaid” should have those screenings where there's a disco light that comes down because it makes you so happy. It makes you feel really empowered, really satisfied and really kind of floating, because you've had this whole experience and now you've got Taylor Swift.

By the end of the movie — and spoiler alert for those who don't know the story — my hope is that Millie and Nina have decided that men were more trouble than they're worth, and that they could just have their lesbian exit.

Seyfried: To be continued. Here's the thing: In the next book, Millie becomes very tight with Enzo, and they're a couple, and so maybe the cool twist that we give the second “Housemaid” [movie] is that we're on the rocks and we live together. Whether we're lesbians or not, we're definitely companions and we live together with [Nina’s daughter] Cece.

There could be a very modern fluidity to all of it.

Seyfried: Yes. I mean, that's the thing: “The Housemaid 2” can't be anything, but it can be enhanced, which is what Paul did with this movie. Brought it to life in a new way. Nailed it.

Feig: You can't lose with a cast like this.

What has the LGBTQ+ community taught you over the years about yourself, your work and how your characters land with audiences?

Seyfried: I guess the more truthful you are, the more grounded you are as a character, the more of an effect you have on people and audiences, and especially just to be true to who you are is everything. It's freedom and my own acceptance of my own self-acceptance.

There are a lot of characters that I've played that I know have had an incredible effect on the queer community, especially with “Mamma Mia!” and “Mean Girls” and I feel like it's a gift to have been able to do those, and it is tenfold when I'm just accepted as an artist who... I don't know. I just feel like the world is safer. I'm a straight fucking average female, but I can be anything, because I feel like I'm safe in this community.

Feig: Yeah, I mean, my life is so much richer because of the LGBTQ+ community.

The majority of my friends are gay. They are the most wonderful people. They've made my wife and I's life so much richer. I get emotional about it, because everything I do, I pass by my friends to see how it plays with them, and everyone's so open and accepting.

Seyfried: It's celebratory.

Feig: Yeah. That's why I donate a lot of money and get very wrapped up in the causes — the whole community from the trans community through the gay community — just because everybody's so under attack right now, and I fucking hate bullies more than life itself, and anybody who wants to mess with the LGBTQ+ community will have to go through me, because I just do not like that kind of judgment on anybody. Everybody should be themselves and everybody should be happy and then fuck anybody who tells you [that you can’t be].

I guess it started when I started singing in choirs in elementary school.

to Texas, they didn’t have a choir, but they had a strong theater program and that’s when I got hit by the Broadway bug.

What was your first professional gig acting (a gig you got paid any amount of money for)?

Right out of high school, I was 17, I did a production of “A Funny Thing Happened on the way to the Forum.” I was so green, I didn’t even know what a stage manager was. I don’t remember the amount, but it was minimal.

When did you know performing would be your career?

I think somewhere in High School, as I was fortunate to go to a high school that had a very good drama program.

Every year our teacher took us to NYC to see Broadway Shows.

That’s when I realized that this was a career that I wanted.

Other than this show, what has been your favorite role so far?

This is my favorite role I have ever played, but I have been very fortunate to play great roles. Some of them were: “Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812;” “Phantom of the Opera” for 6 years and that was my favorite job. “Man of La Mancha” was my favorite show,

and I have been lucky enough to perform in it in 3 different productions.

What’s your fantasy role (a role you haven’t played but would die to play)?

I love “Guys and Dolls,” and I have never played Nathan Detroit, so I would love to play that. Another dream show that I would love to be in is “Fiddler on the Roof.”.

Since this is such an iconic movie, is there extra pressure?

Yes, but also our show brings it to a modern audience and freshens it up.

Describe yourself in 3 words?

Adventurous, Curious and loving, and one more I am very Loyal.

What do you do for fun?

I love going to the movies by myself and I love theme parks. In addition, I love coming home and cooking a nice meal and cuddling up on the couch.

Finally, what should our readers expect from this touring company of “Some like it Hot?” What I love is this is the updated version of this classic story and it’s also a sweet surprise where audience eyes are opened up and see these people in a whole new light. I began performing at the age of 12 and I started with The Ailey Camp.

I learned so much about Ailey and Dance and right after camp, I immediately joined a dance program, and I have been dancing ever since.

Performing with Clifton Brown at City Center during my first year at Ailey School.

When did you know performing would be your career?

After my second year at Ailey camp, I decided that this is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.

Alvin Ailey Dance Company has to be one of the ultimate goals for any dancer.

Even though you went to their camp and their school, How did it feel when you got the call that you were chosen?

It was still an amazing thing for me as I am from an area in Georgia that not a lot of people make it out. I didn’t think I was good enough but was so grateful that I was accepted.

I finally had the pleasure of seeing an Alvin Ailey tour around four years ago in Broward, and I was an emotional mess (in a good way) at the end of the show.

How emotional is it to dance every day with this company?

Very emotional, sometimes it’s so surreal as I worked so hard to get here and perform the works that I have been watching for so long. I have Ph ot immense o by Gratitude.

Mia - I got my Drag name from a friend of mine when I was 20 years old. We were on tour with a Bachata group named Fulanito, and my friend told me he had my name stored in his phone as Mikey STARR. It made me laugh, and I said “who me, a star?”

I told him that if I ever did drag, that would be my name MIA STARR. Juicy - My drag name Mia Starr was inspired by a very fierce dancer I used to compete against in high school. I thought she was the coolest person in the room and carried the name like a true icon so when it was time to choose a drag name I really couldn’t think of anything else.

Before Drag Race, what was the best thing that happened to you in Drag?

Athena - Gosh, I could spend a lot of time here. I have had a very amazing career in drag and have achieved so many things I could have never dreamed of. Definitely my Mykonos residency was a highlight, or forming an amazing loving and extremely talented drag family, or winning local pageants, hosting and producing the best drag show at R House Wynwood , performing for Gloria and Emilio Estefan, being a guest on The View for my friend Ana Navarro’s birthday , and just building a platform for myself and being a voice for the Miami and South Florida community which I love with all my heart.

Mia - The best thing that happened to me in drag before Drag Dace was able to perform in Rihanna’s halftime Apple commercial. Even though the commercial was never released, being able to film it was so incredible.

Athena - It came at a time when I was in a very low place in my life, as I had suffered loss and heartache amongst other challenges. It was the light I needed at a very dark time and the push I needed to get my head back into the game. It was life changing, in more ways than one, and all I could think after 13 auditions, is FINALLY!!!!!!!!

Mia - When I got the call to be on season 18, I just knew that my life was about to change. This is something I’ve worked so hard for, and for it to happen is truly a dream come true.

Juicy - It was surreal, immediate butterflies and goosebumps. I couldn’t help but cry my eyes out and yell into my pillow…lol.

Before taping, tell us why you thought you should be America’s Next Drag Superstar?

Athena - There was a point in time when I decided I was probably never going to get cast for the show, even though I still auditioned I thought they wouldn’t pick me.

So, I said I am going to do everything in my power to be America’s biggest drag superstar regardless. I made that my mantra and applied it to everything I did. It helped me build an amazing career, become a queen of my city, travel the world, and mentor others. So, I said honey I am already Americas next drag superstar, I'm just here to pick up my crown.

Mia - I should be America’s next Drag Superstar because I’m bringing a different level of experience that I have never seen someone bring to the show before.

I’ve experienced dancing with all the stars in our industry and now it’s time for me to be the STARR! Juicy - I should be America’s Next Drag Superstar because I represent all the first-generation kids who dream of a successful life in the arts and will stop at nothing to get it. My family tried to tell me you need to be a doctor or have a “real job,” but my heart told me I needed to be on stage and I listened.

Without revealing anything that we are not allowed to know, tell us about your RuPaul’s Drag Race experience?

Athena - It was more than I could have expected, beyond my imagination, and it taught me A LOT about myself.

Mia - It honestly was everything I imagined and more. I was overwhelmed in the best way possible. I felt like a little kid on Christmas day.

Juicy - Get ready for a rollercoaster my loves. My experience is definitely a journey.

We laughed, we cried, and we learned SO MUCH. Who is your favorite former Ru Girl, and why?

Athena - Props to our hometown girls Latrice Royale and Kennedy Davenport! I mean, c’mon, no explanation needed! I also love Alyssa Edwards and Raven.

Mia - Monet X Change and Alyssa Edwards are my favorite Ru Girls because they had to work for it. They are proof that if you don’t give up, you will get to where you want to be. Not only are they super talented, but they have a good heart, and they check all the boxes for me.

Juicy - I can’t name just one because I have more than just one but I’ve always really loved Monet x Change and I can’t wait to play Marvel Rivals with her one day. Also really look up to Violet Chachki, so fierce, such a visionary and her work with Crazy Horse Paris is so inspiring, I really see myself on that stage one day hopefully.

How has the Press Tour been?

Athena - I’ve never felt more correct in my life! A week dedicated to talking about

myself, SIGN ME UP LOL Mia - The press tour was amazing. There wasn’t much sleep, but it was so worth it.

Getting to be with my season 18 sisters was the best part. We are a cast that really love each other, and I am so grateful for each and every one of them.

Juicy - The press tour has been fun! It is so exciting to feel this celebrity fantasy with all the interviews and press…haha. Definitely, a lot of early mornings, but nothing coffee and red bull couldn’t fix.

What’s ahead for you?

Athena - I’m doing a lot more television in the future, hosting my own show, guest starring on talk shows and podcasts, speaking at college campuses about chosen families and the art of drag. I want to create a place where people can come and feel welcome and happy and mix and mingle. I have a long to-Do list, and we are just getting started.

Mia - What’s ahead for me? Tune in to MTV January 2 at 8pm, haha. On a serious note, I am going to be focusing more on my music and performing a lot more. The sky is the limit, and I am ready to fly.

Juicy - I have so many dreams and so many goals. I want to see myself everywhere; on tour with artists, brand campaigns, fashion shows, theater shows, Juicy Love solo princess tour, Dancing with the Stars, you name it, I want to do it. You only get one shot at this life, and I want to look back at everything I did and say to myself. “Juicy, I ate that.”

It was a pleasure to sit down with Jerome Hill, who is a member of the LGBTQ+ community and the Touring PR Manager for Ringling.

What made you decide to work for Ringling Brothers and how has it been?

I wanted to be part of Ringling Brothers since I was 4 or 5 years old when I saw my first show. It’s the reason I got into circus arts and performing. It’s where I wanted to end up, and never ended up as a

performer for Ringling, but now I have only been here a few months I am the Touring Manager and it’s a dream of a lifetime.

What does the touring pr manager do?

My job is to help get performers, acts, and crew to different media outlets and I work very lose with the publicist and with Feld Entertainment’s Corp office.

What is your favorite part of this circus?

The introduction, because the circus evolves over generations of time, but the opening spectacle kind of remains the same and it’s something they are not going to see anywhere else.

What do you do for fun?

I love Classic cartoons from the 80’s, but I also enjoy cooking and in many years from now when I leave the circus I have aspirations to open a diner.

How is it being a LGBTQ+ person traveling around the country?

I think it’s very broadening in scope to be part of this community and to see the community in so many parts of the country.

Are you excited about being in Sofla?

Florida is still fairly new to me and there are so many places I haven’t seen yet. But I have heard great things about what I can expect in South Florida. I am also excited about seeing the crowds in South Florida.

What does the future hold for you?

I see myself still making my way in the circus industry in some way, but also as a published author. I have two books in the

What should our readers expect from this new version of the Greatest Show on Earth?

Like any entertainment outlet a hiatus was necessary to reinvent. Audiences change over time, and we needed to step back and change after 150 years. In addition, this is a groundbreaking show that collaborated with top 40 artists. The songs and artists you will recognize. We have reimagined everything and we now focus on the human side of things.
