Returns to the Broward Center
December 16-28
By: Scott Holland
Bank of America Broadway in Fort Lauderdale Series and The Broward Center for the Performing Arts are pleased to announce the return of Cameron Mackintosh’s acclaimed production of Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg’s Tony Award-winning musical phenomenon, Les Misérables from December 16-28.
Cameron Mackintosh said, “The phenomenon of Les Misérables never fails to astound me. No show in history has been able to continually reinvent itself and remain a contemporary musical attracting new generations of brilliant new talent, many of whom go on to international stardom. We are all thrilled to be Bringing Her Home to you."
Set against the backdrop of 19th century France, Les Misérables tells an enthralling
story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption – a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. This epic and uplifting story has become one of the most celebrated musicals in theatrical history.
Boublil & Schönberg’s magnificent score of Les Misérables includes the classic songs “I Dreamed a Dream,” “On My Own,” “Bring Him Home,” “Do You Hear The People Sing?,” “One Day More,” “Master of the House” and many more. Seen by over 130 million people worldwide in 53 countries, 438 cities and 22 languages, Les Misérables is undisputedly still one of the world’s most popular musicals.
To date, Les Misérables remains the 6th longest-running Broadway production of all time.
It was a pleasure to sit down with Lindsay Heather Pearce, who plays Fantine, for this exclusive Hotspots interview: At what age did you begin performing and how did it happen?
I started performing when I was around 7 when I was living in Portland Oregon. I was always singing and memorizing entire books, and everyone else in my family was athletes. I was different and my parents’ friends said to get me into theater to focus my energy, and that’s when it started. I did shows, and I loved it and I never stopped from there.
What was your first professional gig (you got
I was 16 and I played Shelby in a production of Steel Magnolia in Sonora California at Stage
Three. I think I got paid $300 a week and it was thrilling.
When did you know performing would be your career?
It was the year after Steel Magnolias as I left my regular High school where my dad was the Dean, because there was no Arts program there. I did a charter program, where I can do my classes in the morning. I auditioned for Beauty and the Beast at the Tri Valley Repertory Theater, where no one knew me, but they cast me as Belle and that was the moment that I knew. I worked there every summer until I was 19.
Is there extra pressure being in such an iconic show and in such an iconic role?
Yes, there is pressure to do the show and the role justice. Everyone knows every lyric, so you must remember everything correctly and there is also pressure to do justice to such an iconic story/role. There have been so many amazing women who have played Fantine, I can only hope I do them justice while bringing my own spin to the role.
Other than this show, what has been your favorite role so far?
I think it would have to be Elphaba in Wicked, as I was there when the pandemic shut us down and then I was there when we re-opened. I also really loved playing Janice in the Mean Girls touring company.

Lindsay Heather Pearce
What’s your fantasy role (a role you haven’t played but would die to play)?
There are three roles…Two I am too young to play and they are: Francesca in Bridges over Madison County, and Sylvia in Finding Neverland. I would also love to play Mary The Secret Garden, but I have long aged out of that role. Describe yourself in 3 words?
Compassionate, curious and hungry. What do you do for fun?
I am a huge reader (major book worm), as I really love to learn. My boyfriend and I are big D&D (Dungeon and Dragons) nerds. I also love the zoo, and to be outside, and getting to know people. Finally, what should our readers expect from this touring company of “Les Misérables?”
People may say they have seen it before or I have seen the movie, but this production is totally di erent but also exactly the same show in the best ways possible. I sit backstage when I finish playing Fantine in Act 1 and I listen to the show, and it’s always a thrill. It’s so moving and I can hear people crying and gasping from the audience. It gets you by the collar
shows of all time. If you think you know Les Miz, you don’t as you haven’t seen this version.
Is there anything else you want to talk
Yes, we will be collecting for Broadway Cares in Fort Lauderdale, and I can’t express how important Broadway Cares is. They just sent millions of dollars to people who lost their snap benefits, and they do so much more. If you have any extra money, please donate as every dollar counts.
For more information on Lindsay, Instagram.com/Lindsayheatherpearce.
Individual tickets will be available at Ticketmaster.com, by phone at 954.468.0222 or at the Broward Center’s AutoNation Box Office located at 201 SW Fifth Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, FL. 33312. Orders for groups of ten (10) or more can be purchased by calling 954.660.6307.

On a recent episode of the hilarious podcast “Las Culturistas,” hosted by comedian Matt Rogers and “SNL” cast member Bowen Yang, guest Jennifer Lawrence dropped the bomb: she and Emma Stone are producing a Miss Piggy movie, one that will be written by “Oh, Mary!” creator and Tony-winner Cole Escola. It’s in development at Disney, which owns the rights to the Muppet characters, and it will be the first time that
the temperamental diva will take the lead in a movie after being part of the larger Muppet ensemble for many decades. Lawrence stated that she and Stone will probably appear in the film, though that’s not locked down. Who knows when this will happen, but it feels like a lightning flash of good times suddenly struck the world. And it’s too bad that Miss Piggy is actually a puppet, because a real-life version would take aggressive charge of a project like this and make sure nothing got in her way. Let her spirit possess the producing pair for the
good of all humankind. Nothing is allowed to go wrong.
Adele and Hunter Schafer preparing for ‘Cry to Heaven’ with Tom Ford
In the middle of taking one of her extended, sometimes years-long breaks in between albums, Adele is switching it up: she’s going to act. The singer will make her big screen debut in directordesigner Tom Ford’s latest, “Cry to Heaven,” currently in pre-production. Based on the 1982 Anne Rice novel, Ford will adapt the screenplay, produce and direct the period film with an all-star cast that includes Nicholas Hoult, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ciaran Hinds, George MacKay, Mark Strong, Colin Firth, Thandiwe Newton, Paul Bettany and trans actress Hunter Schafer. The story revolves around a Venetian nobleman and a castrato opera singer — we don’t know who’s playing these roles yet — whose lives intersect in unusual ways. Does that mean it’s also a musical? Who can say. All we know now is that it’s set to roll before cameras in early 2026 in London and Rome, which means a likely 2027 release. And if Adele sings in the film that means more music from her soon, too.
A gayer ‘Christmas Carol’ with Ian McKellen and Tramell Tillman
This Christmas? No, next, but with in-demand, Emmy-winning gay star Tramell Tillman (“Severance,” “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning”) and legendary gay actor Ian McKellen in a new adaptation of “A Christmas Carol” that will star Johnny Depp as Ebenezer Scrooge, to be directed by acclaimed horror filmmaker Ti West (“X,” “Pearl”). It’s the kind of news we get that makes us think that one more version of this well-worn tale is going to be a welcome experience. We don’t know which roles McKellen and Tillman will play but if we had to guess we’d assign them the ghost of Jacob Marley (traditionally grumpy and sometimes a little bitchy) and the Ghost of Christmas Present (commanding and sexy in that robe), respectively. We’ve already been promised a November 2026 release date, so they’d better get to work.
Are the ‘Shahs of Sunset’ coming back?
With increasingly fractured relationships and declining ratings, Bravo’s “Shahs of Sunset” was cancelled in 2021 after nine seasons. But a few of the show’s cast members — specifically gay ringleader Reza Farahan, Golnesa “GG” Gharachedaghi and Mercedes “MJ” Javid –would appear to have kept ties to the network, and recent events on the streets of West Hollywood would suggest that something more than simple hanging out is happening. The three
cast members seen quite recently handing out samples from the food truck GG owns, “Bottom of the Pan,” which serves Persian food, while a camera rolled to document the situation. We have no idea if this means there’s more Bravo content coming with the three friends, or if this is just promotion for the business, but nothing happens with a filming permit in Los Angeles that doesn’t involve showing it to the public later. Stay tuned and hungry.
Romeo San Vicente wants seconds.

THE SEASON TO BE SWOLE BULKING THROUGH THE HOLIDAYS
The holidays get a bad rap for “ruining” fitness goals… but what if you made them work for you? If you’re in a bulking phase, congratulations. You have just unlocked the cheat code. This is the one time of year when eating more is not only socially acceptable, but also expected. And honestly? Mom’s mashed potatoes are basically a mass-gainer shake in disguise. Here’s how to turn the season of feasting into the season of gains, all the while having fun, staying consistent, and enjoying food without guilt.
1. Make Holiday Food Your Friend, Not Your Enemy
Forget the fear of “overdoing it.” When you’re bulking, you want a calorie surplus — your muscles are hungry little gremlins, and this is their time. Load up on the festive
carbs (stuffing, potatoes), lean proteins (roasted turkey, ham), and healthy fats (we see you, pecan pie… in moderation).
Pro tip: Building muscle is easier when your body isn’t stressed. Holiday comfort food helps you recover harder. Science? No. Vibes? Yes.
2. Keep a Training Rhythm — Even If It’s a Wobbly One
Gyms get weird around theholidays: half the people disappear, the other half panic-prep for New Year’s resolutions. But as long as you keep moving, you’re golden.
Try shorter but more intense sessions: 3–4 full-body workouts a week with heavy compound lifts. Aim for progressive overload but don’t stress if your schedule looks like: train, holiday party, leftovers, nap, repeat.
Leo Harley
3. Make “Holiday Activities” Count as Cardio (because they do)
Carrying shopping bags? Farmer’s walk. Dragging a Christmas tree across the parking lot? Sled pull.
Running from family members asking about your love life? Sprint intervals. See? You’re basically an athlete.
4. Bring Snacks. Everywhere. At All Times.
Bulking is a lifestyle, one that includes random hunger pangs at inopportune moments. Keep a stash of high-calorie, high-protein snacks: protein bars, mixed nuts, trail mix, even leftover cookies if you’re really in the spirit.
5. Hydrate Like You’re Training for the North Pole Olympics
Heating systems + salted holiday foods = your body turning into a dehydrated raisin. Keep a water bottle handy and don’t forget electrolytes, especially if you’re working out between family gatherings.
6. Don’t Stress the Scale
Your weight will fluctuate like a holiday playlist on shuffle.
One day you’re up three pounds (thanks, stuffing and sodium), the next day you’re back down. Chill. The goal is to grow, and growth is messy, delicious, and a little fluffy around the edges.
7. Embrace the Post-Holiday Bulk Glow-Up
January is coming. Everyone else is dragging themselves to the gym to “burn off holiday weight.” You walk in already stronger, fuller, and fueled, like Santa if he traded cookies for creatine.
8. Turn Leftovers Into MuscleBuilding Meals
Holiday leftovers are basically a meal prep miracle
dressed in tinfoil. Turn turkey into high-protein sandwiches, roasted veggies into power bowls, and stuffing into pre-workout happiness. Mix in eggs, rice, or beans and suddenly your fridge looks like it was stocked by a bodybuilding elf. Meals don’t have to be complicated; they just need to be consistent.
9. Use Extra Downtime for Elite Recovery
Holidays naturally slow life down, so use that to your advantage. Nap like it’s your side hustle. Stretch. Hit mobility work. Foam roll while watching cheesy holiday movies. Recovery is where the gains happen, and this season practically rolls out the red carpet for it. Your muscles will thank you later.
10. Make Your Bulking Season Social, Not Stressful
The holidays are full of gatherings, dinners, parties, and “just come by for a bite” moments. Instead of stressing, lean in. Be present, enjoy your people, and let eating be fun. If anyone comments on your third plate, just challenge them to an eating contest, because food is for eating.
Final Rep:
Bulking during the holiday season isn’t just smart, it’s elite strategy. You get to enjoy family time, delicious food made with plenty of love, and beautiful festivities while setting yourself up for a monster year of gains. Be consistent, lift heavy, eat well, rest fully, and let the season work its magic.
Because while others are jingling bells… you’ll be building bigger delts.

When life tries to dim your sparkle, we say thank you for the music... and the platform shoes! This spring, GMCSF dons its sequins and bell-bottoms for ABBA: Thank You For The Music – a discopowered joyride through the Swedish supergroup's greatest hits, with a chorus full of Dancing Queens and disco dreams. From the moment the curtain rises on Friday, March 20, at 8pm, at The Parker in Fort Lauderdale, audiences will be transported to a glittering '70s nightclub. hits – "Dancing Queen," "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)," "Mamma Mia," "Waterloo," and many more – all delivered in lush harmony by over a hundred voices strong. Fans are encouraged to come ready to sing along and dress up (sequins are welcome, while platform shoes are optional but highly encouraged) as GMCSF pays tribute to the music that defined a generation's pride and joy.
GMCSF's Season 16 Pride concert, Invincible, promises to be an unforgettable night of remembrance, resilience, and triumph. Marking the 10th anniversary of the Pulse Nightclub tragedy, this concert brings together an unprecedented coalition of Florida's most powerful choral groups and musicians to honor the lives lost and celebrate the LGBTQ+ community's indomitable spirit in the face of tragedy, while also honoring Juneteenth and the ongoing fight for freedom and equality. On Friday, June 19, at the Au-René Theater, Broward Center for the Performing Arts, in a moving display of unity, over 200 voices will join as GMCSF shares the stage with the
Orlando Gay Chorus, The Gay Men's Chorus of Tampa Bay, and Master Chorale of South Florida, accompanied by musicians from the acclaimed Symphony of the Americas. At the heart of Invincible is the world premiere of a specially commissioned work by Saunder Choi, an acclaimed composer known for his emotionally stirring choral pieces. This new composition anchors an evening that also features uplifting songs of hope, solidarity, and pride – music that reflects the courage to push forward with strength in the face of adversity. Audiences can expect a multisensory experience, as the performance will integrate dance and spoken word elements to amplify its message of healing and hope. Invincible is more than a concert; it's poised to be one of the most significant cultural events of the year, fueling determination and inspiring unity as our community stands together, remembers, and looks to the future with pride. This landmark production is presented with additional funding from The Warten Foundation and Funding Arts Broward.
Tickets for all Season 16 mainstage concerts are available now. Holiday Slay Ride, ABBA: Thank You For The Music, and Invincible tickets can be purchased through Ticketmaster, and Carols by Candlelight tickets are available via OvationTix.
