On Friday, May 9, a few friends and I decided to head down to South Beach to hang out at the iconic Twist. As always Twist was packed and we danced to the music of Tony Zuccaro. As always, we had a blast at Twist.

On Saturday May 10, there were 2 events so the Hotspots Happening Out team had to split up so we could attend both. The first was the SAVE Champions of

Equality annual Gala at the Lowes Miami Beach. The gala honored Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, (Politician Leadership), Latrice Royale (Entertainer and Advocate) andCongressman Chris Pappas (National LGBTQ+ Representation). The gala featured lots of wonderful speakers, an amazing silent auction and great performances. Congrats to SAVE!!

Also that night, The South Florida Pride Concert Band presented its seasonconcluding concert, Heroes and Villains Presented by the Bears of South Florida, at The Parker. This performance featured two Broadway superstars, Tony Award winning vocalist Frances Ruffelle (Eponine les Miz) and Tony and Grammy Award nominee Max von Essen. The South Florida Pride Bands is the oldest LGBTQ+ arts and cultural organization in the state of Florida, and this was a wonderful show to end its 38th season!

On Tuesday, May 13, was the night that the monthly Pride Skate MOVED to

ONE MAGICAL WEEKEND (OMW) RETURNS TO ORLANDO

MAY 29 - JUNE 2

One of my favorite annual weekends, One Magical Weekend, returns to Orlando with Pool Parties, the Expo, Therapy pool parties, Cadabra After Hours, Riptide at Typhoon Lagoon, the Red Party at House of Blues, and much more.

One Magical weekend returns to the popular Sheraton Lake Buena Vista Resort for a 6th time and invites you to join them for their amazing weekend of events. The Sheraton Lake Buena Vista Resort features 2 resort-style pools, spacious fitness center, complimentary Wi-Fi, a fabulous restaurant and much more.

When I asked owner Tom Christ about his excitement going into this year, he said:

“OMW 2025 is going to be the biggest

yet!  The Host Hotel has sold out and the Bear Jamboree host Hotel, the Crowne Plaza has sold out, and we only have a few rooms left at the Fairfield Inn which shares a parking lot with the Sheraton. The events are going to be packed with revelers ready to kick off Pride month and celebrate RED Shirt Pride Day.  We are working hard to make 2025 an exceptional experience with an exceptional DJ lineup including Paulo, Ana Flor, Alex Lo, Micky Friedman, Nick Strancer and many of the most famous DJs on the planet.

The Sheraton Lake Buena Vista and The Crown Plaza are Sold out (next year, book your rooms earlier), and as Tom said there are just a few rooms left at the overflow hotel – The Fairfield Inn which is an easy walk from the Sheraton and the daily

Therapy Pool Parties, Cadabra After Hours Parties, and the Gay Biz Expo! Book your room now! If you book your room there (3 night minimum) through the link on the OMW website you will receive 2 Therapy Pool Party Wristbands for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday pool parties ($180 value). Bring your confirmation from the Fairfield Inn to the gay Biz Expo (11am to 6pm Fri and Sat; and 11am to 4pm on Sun) at the Sheraton Lake Buena Vista after you check in to receive your passes. The other events OMW have are:

For one night, Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Waterpark becomes entirely ours for one of the best parties of the year! It was a wild and fun night, but the highlight of the weekend was of course going to Riptide. While being truly enchanted by the atmosphere and beats by DJ Paulo that evening, I thought how fabulous it would be if I was lucky enough to DJ at that party sometime. I didn’t say anything to anyone, but the universe manifested it somehow because I was blown away when I got the call to ask if I was available to headline Riptide at OMW 2025! So yes, I do believe in magic, and I am grateful for the opportunity to sparkle & shine (and get soakin’ drippin’ wet) with thousands of magical people at OMW’s Riptide this year!”

SHRED TIME: WELCOME TO THE CUTTING SEASON!

You’ve spent the last few months (or maybe the whole winter) piling on muscle, lifting heavy, and eating like every day was Thanksgiving. But now? It’s time to reveal the gains hiding beneath the fluff. Welcome to the cut.

What Is Cutting Season?

Cutting season is like the grand finale of your fitness show: the time when you reduce body fat to show off the muscle you worked so hard to build. The goal? Keep the gains, drop the fluff. It’s all about revealing that V-taper, those sculpted quads, and maybe even chasing that elusive six-pack that only seems to come out under the right lighting (and a little flexing).

The Mindset Shift

Going from bulk to cut isn’t just a diet change, it’s a lifestyle pivot. During

bulking, food was your friend. You were the king of “dirty bulks,” slamming protein shakes and stacking pancakes. Now, you’re measuring peanut butter with surgical precision. Welcome to the phase where discipline beats desire, and motivation must outlast your craving for late-night snacks.

The Key Elements of a Solid Cut

1. Calories In vs. Calories Out:

It’s basic math, but cutting isn’t about starving yourself. It’s about a controlled calorie deficit. Aim for around 300–500 calories below maintenance. Just enough to burn fat, not muscle.

2. Protein Is King:

Protect those gains! Keep your protein high (around 1g per pound of body weight) to preserve muscle while you’re in a deficit.

3. Moderate Cardio:

Yes, cardio can help. No, you don’t need

Leo Harley

to run a marathon. Mix in steady-state or HIIT sessions a few times a week. Bonus: it helps your heart, too.

Stays:

because you’re cutting. Keep lifting heavy. Your muscles need a reason to stick around.

a sprint. Give your body time to adapt. Crash diets are great for losing weight and muscle. We’re here for the long haul and the lean gains.

How to Calculate Your Cutting Macros

Your Maintenance

Calories

formula:

Body weight (lbs) x 14–16

(14–15) if you’re

sedentary, and the higher end (16) if you’re active.

Example:

180 lbs x 15 = 2,700 maintenance calories

Step 2: Create a Calorie Deficit

Subtract 300–500 calories for a moderate, sustainable cut:

2700 - 500 = 2200 daily cutting calories

Step 3: Set Your Macros

Protein:

1.0–1.2g per lb of body weight

180 lbs = 180–216g protein (go with 200g for simplicity)

Fats:

0.3–0.4g per lb of body weight

180 lbs = 55–72g fat (let’s choose 60g)

Carbs:

Fill the rest of your calories with carbs:

• Protein = 200g x 4 = 800 cal

• Fat = 60g x 9 = 540 cal

• 2200 - 800 - 540 = 860 cal left for carbs

• Carbs = 860 ÷ 4 = 215g carbs

Final Macro Split (per day):

‘The Chronology’ of Kristen Stewart

“The Chronology of Water” is filmmaker Kristen Stewart’s narrative feature debut and in just a few weeks it premieres in the Cannes Film Festival’s “Un Certain Regard” section and is eligible for the “Camera d’Or” award for best first film. Stewart also co-wrote the screenplay with Andy Mingo, based on the memoir by Lidia Yuknavitch. It’s the true

story of a young woman struggling with addiction and finding her strength through both swimming and writing, and it stars Imogen Poots, “Ghost World” queen Thora Birch, Sonic Youth legend Kim Gordon and Jim Belushi (we never thought we’d say those names in the same sentence). Actors becoming directors is nothing new, and few make that transition successfully, but Stewart’s career is a case study in doing things her way and proving

naysayers wrong, seemingly without so much as a glance in their direction. This one is certain to make more noise in a stateside theatrical

Ryan Murphy knows how much you love… lawyers?

We are of the opinion that anything can be a Ryan Murphy TV series as long as the right (or weirdly wrong but also right) people are in it. Proof: “All’s Fair” is coming to Hulu and it’s a legal drama that Murphy pitched to Kim Kardashian when she passed the California “baby bar” examination after studying to become a lawyer. The series centers Kardashian’s character, a divorce lawyer named “Allura Grant,” and co-stars a who’s who of Women We Love: Glenn Close, Sarah Paulson, Naomi Watts, Niecy Nash, Teyana Taylor, Elizabeth Berkley, Judith Light, Lorraine Toussaint and Brooke Shields. This could go any number of ways, but we’re guessing that with campy character names like “Carrington,” “Liberty,” “Emerald” and “Milan,” and the usual mind-bending scenarios one typically encounters in a Murphy series, boring won’t be one of them.

happily play the Which Mr. Darcy is The Hottest game amongst them(our)selves. All of that to say that Netflix, which currently is serving the Keira Knightley “P&P” even as it’s also returned to theaters, is about to deliver a six-episode limited series to give the people what they want. Word is that it’s going to be a very faithful adaptation of the novel, written by Dolly Alderton (“Everything I Know About Love”) and directed by Euros Lyn (“Heartstopper”). Emma Corrin is taking their star turn as Elizabeth Bennet, Jack Lowden (“Benediction”) is Mr. Darcy, and Olivia Colman stars as Mrs. Bennet. Shooting this year in the

U.K., you won’t have too long to wait before it pops up as a “We Think You’ll Love These” option on the Netflix main page.

Join the Canadian ‘Parade’

Moldenhauer was there shooting 8mm footage, and it’s been digitized and preserved, making up the bulk of “Parade: Queer Acts of Love & Resistance,” from director Noam Gonick. Combining the archival footage with first-person accounts, it’s the previously lesser-known story of how Canada marched their way to queer liberation, but now a vital one for every history-loving queer. Toronto’s Hot Docs Festival has the premiere, so look for this one to hit virtually every other queer film fest before landing at your favorite arthouse or streaming platform.

As gay rights marches took shape in the United States after the Stonewall riots of 1969, our more civilized neighbor to the north, Canada, had already moved in the legal direction of decriminalizing gay sex (Bill C-150). In August of 1971, the “We Demand March” took place to commemorate the second anniversary of the passage of that bill. Good news for 2025: an activist named Jearld Romeo San Vicente is ready to march again.
