Team HSS Walks to Support Lupus Research

Introducing the New HSS Visual Identity We are excited to launch a brand new look and feel for ECHO, which reflects the new visual identity that was introduced to the organization in early October. The new visual identity reflects an evolution in how we apply HSS branding, in words and graphics, to showcase the way HSS presents itself not only internally, but to the vast outside marketplace. There is no secret that the HSS brand remains exceptionally strong on the outside. As the world’s leading academic medical center focused on musculoskeletal health, our unmatched experience in the field has paved the way for the growth and demand we see today. Because of this, we have strengthened our specialty and further committed ourselves to delivering exceptional quality of care by expanding our footprint physically and digitally. The HSS visual identity reflects this new chapter in our history.

HSS is committed to improving the lives of patients with lupus through our world-class care, cutting-edge research, innovations, and education and support programs. Raising awareness for lupus research remains an extremely important cause to HSS. For this reason, we once again served as a sponsor for the Lupus Research Alliance (LRA) Walk with Us to Cure Lupus on Saturday, October 12, at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum. Like previous years, the walk is aimed at helping to raise funds and awareness for lupus research, which is something that is in line with what we do here at HSS in our Department of Rheumatology. Through our participation in the event, HSS helps to showcase how we are leaders in this area, as well as our commitment to our lupus patients.

“The new HSS visual identity is one way we are supporting our broader mission,” said Lou Shapiro, President and CEO. “We all know that on the inside, HSS is represented by our thriving culture, which results in unmatched quality, outcomes and patient satisfaction. It’s important that what is visible on the outside matches this.” As we journey together on our Strategic Roadmap, we must adapt to the evolution we are facing as an organization. Through our new visual look and feel, our goal is to express the HSS brand most effectively, efficiently and consistently. While the HSS logo remains the same monogram introduced in 2017, we are evolving other aspects of our visual identity in several ways:

One clear, consistent HSS logo A new system – Templafy – that integrates HSS branded templates into the PowerPoint and Word programs on your work computer and gives us all the same, but personalized, email signature A new way to apply HSS branding in service and location names and graphics, in all aspects of producing HSS-branded materials in print, digital or any other form A new graphic element consisting of a dynamic set of perspective shapes called The Edge that represents the HSS monogram square in motion, which you will see throughout this issue of ECHO and in communications across the organization

It is important to remember that, with this evolution, what remains at our core is unchanging. Our mission, vision and values – all of which are rooted in and stem from Hospital for Special Surgery – will always remain the same. The consistency that comes with the new visual identity will help to elevate our stature by ensuring we present ourselves as the experts that we are. The unified look and feel of our communications is one more way we are reinforcing our position as THE leader in musculoskeletal health.

More than 700 walkers, including HSS family members, patients, family and friends, joined team HSS to show their dedication to the cause. Lou Shapiro, President and CEO, was co-chair of the event for the sixth year in a row. continued on page 2
