Apply for the Siegele Conservation Science Internship!

The Colorado Natural Heritage Program (CNHP) is selecting interns for the summer of 2024. This is a paid summer internship ($15/ hour). The Siegele Interns will spend the summer of 2024 (May 14-July 23) with CNHP staff working on conservation projects in the field throughout Colorado. This is a chance to get experience working and living in the field. No prior experience is necessary to apply. Most of the interns are Juniors or Seniors but Sophomores are also encouraged to apply.

Experimental and Computational Materials Research Internship NSF Division of Materials Research (DMR) supported Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) site at the University of Alabama at Birmingham is inviting applications for the Summer 2024 program. REU-projects are available in five research clusters: (1) computational materials research/machine learning (2) materials under extreme conditions (3) materials for energy applications, (4) materials for sensors and laser applications, and (5) biomaterials for implants, tissue engineering and drug delivery applications. This is an in-person research model.

The undergraduates will conduct the analysis of data generated in their research projects and make presentations on completed research to faculty mentors and other undergraduates taking part in this program. We require all REUs to take part in a campus-wide expo at the end of the program.

The program will offer 10-weeks of research from May 19, 2024 - July 26, 2024. The program will pay $6,000 over the entire 10-week period involving 400 hours of research with a faculty mentor at UAB (based on a 40-hour work week).

Biology Research Opportunity for Honors Students The Sloan lab (CSU Biology Department) is interested in hiring two undergraduate research assistants in plant molecular and evolutionary biology. Front Range Student Ecology Symposium (FRSES) We are excited to announce that the 30th anniversary Front Range Student Ecology Symposium (FRSES) will be held at CSU on February 1st-2nd, 2024. FRSES is a free, annual, student-organized symposium that showcases ecological research in all stages. FRSES has historically been designed to highlight collaborative graduate research both within Colorado State University and throughout the Front Range of Colorado and Wyoming.

Register to attend FRSES 2024 All participants and attendees must register (on-site registration will be available). We have an initial (encouraged) registration date of December 1st to place our food order - but please know that you can register after this date. You can access the registration form here.

Serve as a Judge for FRSES 2024 We are recruiting judges for our oral and poster presentations. Judges may be faculty, post-docs, graduate students*, or community members.

SCHOLARSHIPS Voyager Scholarship for Public Service Calling all sophomores interested in public service! The Voyager Scholarship for Public Service is an award for current college sophomores who intend to pursue a career in public service and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Awardees receive: Up to $50,000 in financial aid $10,000 stipend and free Airbnb housing to pursue a summer work-travel experience between their junior and senior year of college a $2,000 Airbnb travel credit every year for 10 years, totaling $20,000 an invitation to an annual fall summit to help define and inspire their public service journey To see a full list of eligibility requirements, click here.

Fulbright UK Summer Institutes Program The UK Summer Institutes provides first and second year undergraduate students who have little or no travel experience and GPAs of 3.7 or higher with the opportunity to study at one of one of seven locations in the UK. The program is FULLY FUNDED and covers the costs of tuition, travel, and housing. The seven program themes are: 1) Arts, Activism, and Social Justice in England 2) Black Humanities in England 3) Climate Change and Environment in England 4) Identity and Nationhood in Wales 5) Scotland’s History: Kingdom, Nation, and People 6) Technology, Innovation, and Creativity in Scotland 7) Understanding Northern Ireland in Belfast

Freeman Asia Scholarship The Freeman Asia Scholarship provides financial support for U.S. undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need to study abroad in East or Southeast Asia. This scholarship aims to promote a deeper understanding of Asian cultures and societies and offers a unique chance to gain valuable international experience.

Astronaut Scholarship Competition IThe Office for Scholarship and Fellowship Advising and the Astronaut Scholarship Selection Committee are pleased to announce the opening of the 2024 Astronaut Scholarship Competition. The Astronaut Scholarship awards up to $10,000 to rising juniors and seniors who are seeking STEM degrees with intentions to pursue research or advance their field. Qualified applicants will have a graduation date between spring 2025 and spring 2026. Other benefits of the scholarship include mentorship, professional development, and a trip to the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation Innovator’s Weekend in Washington, DC. PROGRAMS OF INTEREST Global Challenge Seminar HONR 292B Credit for Fall

CPD Student Associate Program The Center for Public Deliberation has been facilitating community conversations for over 10 years.

Every semester, the CPD selects 15-20 new students to become trained facilitators. Students are enrolled in a 3-credit course, Applied Deliberative Techniques, to learn all of the skills needed to manage effective and meaningful conversations.

Following the first semester, students are required to register for at least one credit of practicum.

Every practicum credit is equal to 45 hours of CPD-related work. This work includes facilitating at community events, working on a CPD team, data entry, and various other skill-building tasks.

Though students are only required to complete one semester of practicum, most continue earning credits with the CPD for multiple semesters.

We have an honors section of the initial 3 hour class (SPCM 408, Section 231), which includes a 1 hour honors breakout. Students are trained as facilitators, and help with CPD events in the community.

They learn about issue analysis, collaborative problems solving, meeting design, and very effective means of dealing with diversity, polarization, and misinformation.

STUDENT RESOURCES Improving Sleep and Wellbeing Workshop Do you have trouble sleeping? Or, do you think you sleep well, but wake up not feeling refreshed? If so, this sleep 5 session workshop can help you. You will learn proven behaviors and habits that lead to better sleep and related daily functioning. We will cover the benefits of sleep to your physical, emotional, and mental well-being, and how sleep medications and other substances can affect your sleep and sleep patterns. This workshop goes beyond sleep hygiene, including how to use a sleep diary to better understand your sleep and what your sleep patterns might be telling you. We will discuss the physiology of sleep and you will have an opportunity to complete a sleep assessment.

There will be Q&A time for your specific questions. This free five-session workshop is for undergraduate and graduate students at CSU. Space is limited and registration is required.
