VOLUNTEERING Science Olympiad Northern Regional Tournament Hello CSU Honors students! My name is Mando Ramirez, and I am looking for student volunteers to help with a local science competition called Science Olympiad (SO). I am one of the co-directors for Colorado SO, and I am a CSU alumnus! Science Olympiad is a 9-12 grade science competition in which schools compete against each other in 23 STEM related events, spanning a range of fields including biology, geosciences, chemistry, physics, and engineering. Our Northern Regional Tournament will be held on March 2nd, 2024, at Fossil Ridge High School. You can learn more about Colorado SO here (https://scilympiad.com/co) and about the National Organization here (https://www.soinc.org/). I am in need of two types of volunteers: (1) Supervisors, and (2) Day Helpers. Supervisors are responsible for running one of the 23 events. Day Helpers help with various tasks. This competition is only possible with the tremendous help of volunteers. You'd be making a positive impact on young scientists' minds by volunteering for this great outreach event. I am happy to sign for volunteer hours for those who need them. If you are interested in volunteering with Colorado Science Olympiad's Northern Regional Tournament, then please fill out this Google Form: https://forms.gle/r8BZp5hsrNfhJKyr8. You can also reach me at nocoscio@gmail.com to signup or if you would like more information. Thank you so much -- this event can only happen with dedicated volunteers like you!

STUDENT EVENTS

PROGRAMS OF INTEREST Global Challenge Seminar HONR 292B Credit for Fall

CPD Student Associate Program The Center for Public Deliberation has been facilitating community conversations for over 10 years. Every semester, the CPD selects 15-20 new students to become trained facilitators. Students are enrolled in a 3-credit course, Applied Deliberative Techniques, to learn all of the skills needed to manage effective and meaningful conversations. Following the first semester, students are required to register for at least one credit of practicum. Every practicum credit is equal to 45 hours of CPD-related work. This work includes facilitating at community events, working on a CPD team, data entry, and various other skill-building tasks. Though students are only required to complete one semester of practicum, most continue earning credits with the CPD for multiple semesters. We have an honors section of the initial 3 hour class (SPCM 408, Section 231), which includes a 1 hour honors breakout. Students are trained as facilitators, and help with CPD events in the community. They learn about issue analysis, collaborative problems solving, meeting design, and very effective means of dealing with diversity, polarization, and misinformation.
